Thought for the day

"Menticide is an old crime against the human mind and spirit but systematized anew. It is an organized system of psychological intervention and judicial perversion through which a [ruling class] can imprint [their] own opportunistic thoughts upon the minds of those [they] plan to use and destroy." -- Joost Meerloo, The Rape of the Mind

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has won re-election hours after saying crime was down in New York - despite the city's own statistics showing offenses up nearly 30 percent.

The Democrat, who campaigned with struggling New York Governor Kathy Hochul earlier on Election Day, spoke to radio show The Breakfast Club about the issue.

'A lot of people think that crime is up, when we actually see that shootings are down, when we see that huge indicators on the most violent crime in New York City is down.'

Why don’t you talk about something that matters?” President Biden replied to a journalist asking about why he fist-bumped Saudi dictator Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) during his “begging for barrels” trip to the Middle East in July. Biden hoped the Saudis would rescue his presidency by pumping more oil in order to lower American gasoline prices and prevent the demolition of the Democratic Party in the mid-term elections.

On the eve of Biden’s “begging for barrels” tour, federal data confirmed the wreckage of his economic policies. The inflation rate soared to 9.1%, much worse than forecast. Biden has decimated the purchasing power of the dollar as real wages for Americans declined for the 15th straight month. Biden traveled as a desperate man whose own political party is facing a horrendous pummeling in November.

The Middle East and North Africa region is emerging as a significant arms-producing area, according to an overview of the arms industry by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (Sipri) published on 1 November 2022.

The development marks a pivotal shift for a region that has historically relied on outside powers like Russia and the US for military acquisitions and build-ups.

While Israel has maintained its spot as the main arms exporter in the Middle East, countries such as Turkey and Iran have been positioning themselves as key producers.

Bitcoin fell to a two-year low and the crypto market slid after a shocking run on billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried’s FTX cryptocurrency exchange and subsequent pact for an acquisition from rival Binance, as the crypto industry shook from the collapse of one of its foremost institutions.

Sam Bankman-Fried

It's been a chilly week for Sam Bankman-Fried's FTX.

Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao announced early Tuesday that his company signed a letter of intent to acquire FTX due to a “significant liquidity crunch” at Bankman-Fried’s firm.

The instability at one of crypto’s most trusted institutions sent related assets tumbling, and bitcoin tanked 11% to $18,300 Tuesday, a nearly 75% loss from its peak of just under $68,000 last November.

Days before the midterm elections, Pastor David MacLellan was ready to preach far-right politics through Bible verses to his small congregation. MacLellan, a hulking man with a long, grizzled black beard, isn’t an ordinary pastor. He proudly identifies himself as a far-right, extremist pastor and a Christian nationalist, someone who believes American politics should reflect fundamentalist Christian values.

Meta is laying off 13% of its staff, or more than 11,000 employees, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a letter to employees Wednesday.

“Today I’m sharing some of the most difficult changes we’ve made in Meta’s history,” Zuckerberg said in the letter. “I’ve decided to reduce the size of our team by about 13% and let more than 11,000 of our talented employees go. We are also taking a number of additional steps to become a leaner and more efficient company by cutting discretionary spending and extending our hiring freeze through Q1.”

Shares of Meta were up 4% in premarket trading.

Democratic incumbent Raphael Warnock holds less than a one point lead over Republican ex-NFL star Herschel Walker in the key Senate race that will likely head to a runoff election in December that could decide which party takes the majority.

As of 2:20 a.m on Wednesday morning., with 97 percent of precincts reporting, Warnock was up by about 31,000 votes, leading Walker 49.4 to 48.6, on a night that Democrats across the country defied the odds and a GOP red wave failed to materialize.

Warnock had 1,922,548 votes to Walker's 1,891,284.

The number one issue in today’s midterms may be the economy.  This is not because it is good, it’s because the Biden economy is terrible.

President Joe Biden just got another round of horrible news as November’s crucial midterm elections have arrived.

A brand new poll found that just 39 percent of respondents approved of the job Biden is doing as president. Only 9 percent said they believe the country is heading in the right direction under Biden and Democratic leadership, with a whopping 74 percent saying America is on the wrong track.

President Joe Biden, who had been sounding an optimistic note about the midterms, finally conceded Monday night that it'll be 'tougher' for his party to win the House as polls point to a Republican victory.

Biden's comments come as his approval rating dropped down to 39%. His low numbers and fears of a red wave coming out of Tuesday's election has some in the Democratic Party calling for a 'next generation candidate' to run for the White House in 2024.

'I think we'll win the Senate. I think the House is tougher,' the president told reporters at the White House after he returned from his final campaign rally, where he pleaded with voters to send more Democrats to Congress.

Three large groups of illegal aliens simultaneously entered one Texas county on Tuesday as voters head to the polls with immigration and border security at the forefront of the national conversation.

Mobs of migrants have been crossing into Maverick County, TX, on a daily basis as the Biden border crisis continues to grow worse.

“Another busy morning in the Eagle Pass area with three separate large groups already crossing illegally all at the same time,” Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin reported on Tuesday morning.

Melugin published photo and videos of groups ranging in size from roughly 120 to 250 that illegally entered the city of Eagle Pass and nearby Normandy.

This story is developing…

From a source on the ground in Houston…

“We have now confirmed Internet down on all public schools in Houston major centers for voting including West Gray the largest. No Wi-Fi, they’re turning the red wave away this morning in what appears to be coordinated voter suppression. As best we can, we have some people getting names of poll workers recording them saying their name and getting them to confirm”

In Buckhead, Atlanta, GA…

Big voting problems in Atlanta. 3/4 of the voting machines are down at Sutton Elementary (next to Chastain) and just over the Buckhead line the church across from Holy Innocents is turning voters away citing “issues”.

In New York…

So far, doors have been locked, someone “forgot the keys”, wifi down, voting machine broken

Philadelphia officials voted to impose a last-minute voting rule change that will effectively slow the vote count process.

The city’s three-member elections board voted 2-1 in favor of imposing poll book reconciliation – a drawn-out process that aims to prevent double votes, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

The process would supposedly flag any mail-in ballots from voters who have also cast ballots in person.

The decision was made on Tuesday, 7 a.m., by City commissioners following a vote.

The board is comprised of two Democrats and one Republican.

One Republican and one Democrat voted in favor of the change, while the second Democrat objected.

Maricopa County officials say that around 20% of their polling sites are experiencing issues with tabulation machines across the Valley, just hours into Election Day.

While the specific addresses and number of locations having issues have not been confirmed, the Maricopa County Recorder's Officer says technicians have been called to fix the precinct tabulator machines that aren't working.

"We've had a few tabulator issues at a couple locations where the tabulator isn't immediately taking the ballot," Richer said after being asked about two locations with reported issues - Burton Barr Library and Christ Lutheran Church. "Instead it can either be Central count tabulated here, or if that issue can be addressed there, then it can be fed into the tabulator - or voters can go to any of the other 221 voting locations."

Officials say that not every machine is broken at the affected voting sites, so residents may still be able to submit their ballots at the locations of their choice. It is still unknown why so many of the machines are having issues.

Michigan Secretary of State candidate Kristina Karamo promises to bring election integrity back to the state of Michigan.

No more late-night ballot drops, no more manufactured votes, no more computer “glitches” or thugs at the election centers.

On Tuesday morning Kristina Karamo reported that voters in Michigan are being told they already voted.

An arson investigation was underway on Tuesday after seven fires erupted overnight at two churches, a gas station and four other buildings near Mississippi's Jackson State University, officials told local media.

Video footage showed the worst of the seven fires near the historically Black college left Epiphany Church in ruins. There were no reports of any injuries, ABC affiliate WAPT reported.

The Jackson Fire Department began receiving calls at around 2.45 a.m., Assistant Chief Patrick Armon told WAPT. The Jackson Fire Department did not immediately respond to queries from Reuters.

All fires were extinguished by early Tuesday morning, hours before polls opened in Mississippi and other states, with voters casting ballots for congressional seats and other public offices.
