A new court ruling in Germany’s most populous state, North Rhine-Westphalia, bans Alternative for Germany (AfD) members from owning firearms. The judges from the Düsseldorf Administrative Court said their ruling was based on the classification of Germany’s domestic intelligence service, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), which listed the party as a “suspected” threat to democracy.

Since the election of Margaret Thatcher’s Conservative government in 1979, Britain has undergone a great experiment. Economically, the UK became the exemplar of neoliberalism in Europe. Politically, the UK has quietly transitioned to a postnational state, undergoing one of the greatest demographic transformations in the West.

Although the landslide victory of Tony Blair’s “New Labour” in 1997 may have seemed like a return to the model of European social democracy that Britain exemplified after the Second World War, Blair’s “Third Way” represented rather the embrace of neoliberalism by the establishment Left, summed up nicely by their spokesman Peter Mandelson’s declaration that “we are all Thatcherites now”.

Under the leadership of both the Conservative Party and New Labour, Britain has transitioned from a traditional industrial and manufacturing powerhouse to a highly financialised rentier economy. The effects have been profound. The average Briton is considerably worse off and entire regions have been left behind at the same time London has become a booming centre of international finance. The UK has been denationalised by decades of mass-immigration and cultural leftism, and has become the prime example of “anarcho-tyranny”, where the state punishes minor offences and acts of dissent against the liberal consensus with extreme force, while serious crime runs out of control in major cities.

James Howard Kunstler explains how Democrats and media avoid truth by creating a false reality and end up believing their own lies. The entire purpose of Democrats and media is to deceive and to intimidate Americans into living in unreality and aiding and abetting their own demise.

Now that some of the presstitutes are admitting that they covered up for Biden in order to avoid helping Trump by telling the truth, what are the Democrats going to do? So far Biden is resisting his party’s effort to move him aside. But they will rather than lose power.

The Democrats in swing states have institutionalized the electoral theft mechanisms that they used in the 2020 and 2022 elections. For example, in Wisconsin the Liberal-dominated supreme court over-turned the ban on absentee ballot drop boxes. These boxes serve the purpose of permitting anonymous drop offs of invalid ballots that become part of the vote count. Everything is set up for the steal of the coming election. The problem is that Biden cannot run a close enough race for the Democrats to get away with it this time.

The issue of dual loyalty is an ancient one. As noted in a previous TOO article,

[Stephen] Walt points out that Ross has a long involvement with pro-Israel activist organizations, such as being director of WINEP [Washington Institute for Near East Policy, a pro-Israel think tank headquartered in Washington, DC].

But Ross’s ties to Israel are even deeper than that. Until his appointment as Middle East envoy in the Obama Administration, from 2002–2009 Ross was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jewish People Policy Planning Institute. This organization has assumed the role of long term planning for the Jewish people, not only in Israel but also the Diaspora. The JPPPI is an independent think tank that reports to the Israeli government and has close ties with other Jewish organizations. Its mission is “to promote the thriving of the Jewish people via professional strategic thinking and planning on issues of primary concern to world Jewry. JPPPI’s work is based on deep commitment to the future of the Jewish people with Israel as its core state.”

A report published by the Israeli newspaper Haaretz on Sunday confirmed that the Israeli military implemented a secretive procedure known as the “Hannibal directive” during the response to the October 7 Hamas attack on southern Israel.

The directive allows Israeli forces to prevent Israelis from being taken hostage, even if that means putting their lives in danger. The directive had historically only applied to soldiers, but it was also used on Israeli civilians during the October 7 response.

A “very senior” source in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed to Haaretz that the Hannibal directive was ordered on October 7. The report also cited documents and testimonies from soldiers and officers and found that the order was given multiple times throughout the day.

The Israeli government has approved 5,295 new housing units in dozens of settlements throughout the occupied West Bank, according to a settlement watchdog group.

“The building plans include the expansion of settlements deep within the West Bank and the legalization of three outposts: Mahane Gadi, Givat Hanan (Susya East), and Kedem Arava as ‘neighborhoods’ of existing settlements,” the Israeli Peace Now group said in a report on Thursday.

This is in addition to the five settlement outposts approved by the Israeli cabinet last week, the statement said.

Peace Now said that for the first time since the establishment of the Settlement Administration by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, the legal advisor to the Higher Planning Council (HPC) “was a civilian and not an officer as in the past.”

The Chinese dredger suspected of plundering two World War II Royal Navy shipwrecks last year has been detained by Malaysian maritime authorities.

MV Chaun Hong 68 before it was detained by Malaysian authorities on July 1, 2024. Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency Photo

MV Chuan Hong 68 and the entire crew is being held for paperwork violations including port clearances and having 60 unregistered LPG containers aboard and not illegal scavenging, according to a report in Maritime Executive. But the larger question being raised by Southeast Asia news media and investigated by local authorities is how a ship like Chuan Hong 68 with its “bad reputation” that goes back years even be allowed to return to Malaysian waters.

Kuala Lampur’s New Straits Times reported Malaysian investigators are looking into why and by what means Chuan Hong 68 was issued permits to carry out salvage operations on MV Armada in February and a wreck identified as “Maritime Fidelity” in September last year, both off Johor.

The dredger’s suspected plundering of the two warships for its steel, aluminum and brass fittings took place in May 2023. Since these metals were produced before nuclear weapons’ use and testing they are considered of great value in highly specialized manufacturing

Claire's Observations:  The stripping of downed ships, lost in war, should be universally outlawed; those lives lost, should never be forgotten.

Aid agencies have urged urgent action after the number of Israeli settler attacks since 7 October reached 1,000 cases in the occupied West Bank

Israel’s latest war on Gaza has been accompanied by increased Israeli raids on the West Bank, where settlers have used the opportunity to attack Palestinians and their property.

The Association of International Development Agencies (AIDA) warned urged authorities to prevent the Israeli annexation of Palestinian land and to hold illegal settlers accountable for attacks.

"In a context where outpost legalization is being fast-tracked, and Israel is stealing more and more land, foreign governments must act now to stop this illegal appropriation by taking meaningful measures to hold the Israeli Government and perpetrators of these attacks to account," said Sally Abi Khalil,  Middle East and North Africa Director of UK charity Oxfam.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a list of demands for a potential hostage deal ahead of more indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas, a move seen by mediators and Israeli officials as an attempt to sabotage the chances of an agreement.

Netanyahu’s list of demands, which he called “non-negotiable,” included a condition that Israel would be allowed to resume military operations “until all of the objectives of the war have been achieved.” Netanyahu’s objectives include the “eradication” of Hamas, a goal the Israeli military has said is not realistic.

Hamas’s primary condition for a deal is a permanent ceasefire, and Netanyahu’s insistence on having the ability to resume his genocidal war appears to be the main obstacle. The Israeli leader’s repeated public comments about the issue led Hamas to ask for stronger guarantees during previous negotiations.

A bombshell study that The Lancet1 pulled within 24 hours is finally seeing the light of day. Now published in the peer-reviewed Forensic Science International journal, the systematic review of autopsy findings in deaths after COVID-19 shots revealed 73.9% “were directly due to or significantly contributed to” by the injections.2 Canadian oncologist and cancer researcher Dr. William Makis posted on X:3

“This is a victory of SCIENCE over CENSORSHIP!! Incredible perseverance by first author Nicolas Hulscher who didn't give up after LANCET pulled our paper within 24 hours after 100,000s of downloads for no legitimate reason. Big pharma put the squeeze on @TheLancet but has failed to stop us.

Our paper was delayed by one year, and those actions of CENSORSHIP and CANCELLATION led to many deaths that could have been prevented. This paper could be a game changer.”

The Turkish military has advanced 15 kilometers deep into Iraqi Kurdistan, targeting the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and forcing the evacuation of hundreds of villages, according to a conflict monitor's report on Sunday.

The incursion, which represents a significant escalation in Turkey’s military operations, has unfolded amid a conspicuous silence from both Iraqi and Kurdish authorities, raising concerns over Iraq's sovereignty and the safety of its citizens.

Ongoing operations have forced nearly 602 villages in Duhok province to evacuate, with villagers fleeing in fear of Turkish army shelling that has also scorched their farmland, according to a U.S.-based human rights organisation monitoring the conflict.

A human rights group has accused Israel of using water as a "weapon" in Gaza.

Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said Israel was purposely cutting the amount of water available to residents, adding that a genocide was taking place in the enclave.

"Through persistent, systematic, and widespread targeting of the Gaza Strip's water sources and desalination plants, Israel is using water as a weapon against Palestinian civilians," Euro-Med Monitor said in a press release.

"In addition to imposing famine, Israel is deliberately reducing the amount of water available to residents of the strip – especially potable water sources – intentionally targeting the over 2.3 million people who live there as part of its genocide, ongoing since last October."

The Palestinian Prisoners Club (PPC) condemned on Sunday the reported summary execution of four Palestinian prisoners by Israeli forces near the Karem Abu Salem (Kerem Shalom) crossing.

According to a statement issued by the PPC, based on eyewitness accounts from survivors, the four prisoners were among a group of 15 people arrested by Israel and detained for four days. During this time, all of the prisoners were subject to torture, beatings and being held in harsh and humiliating conditions.

At the time of the prisoners being released at Karem Abu Salem, Israel targeted the group, deliberately killing the four as-yet unidentified Palestinians, according to witness testimony. Photos of their retrieved bodies show signs of torture, with the four dead still wearing handcuffs.

The devastation of Gaza’s health system and the magnitude and complexity of the trauma endured by the Palestinian people are difficult for aid workers to wrap their heads around, Dr. Hanan Balkhy, the World Health Organization’s regional director for the Eastern Mediterranean, has said.

Appearing on the Arab News current affairs program “Frankly Speaking,” the Saudi-born WHO official described the reality facing Palestinians and aid workers operating under Israeli bombardment in the embattled enclave.

“It is difficult for me to interact with and listen to those devastating stories, let alone … the photos and the videos that we see every day on TV,” Balkhy said.

“I was at the Rafah border crossing from the Egypt side. I was able to visit the patients that were hosted in the hospitals in Al-Arish … The stories that I’ve heard and the types of trauma that I have seen are quite significant.”

Balkhy, who took up her appointment as regional director in February this year and is the first woman to hold the position, described witnessing “maimed children and women” and “young adults with lost limbs.”

A harrowing investigation has uncovered details of Israeli forces' targeting an Al Araby TV news crew in the occupied West Bank in May, highlighting the dangerous circumstances in which journalists live in occupied Palestine.

Forbidden Stories, an organisation which works with journalists under threat of imprisonment or murder, published an investigative report in which they spoke to journalist Ameed Shehadeh and cameraman Rabi Al-Munayer of Al Araby TV, a Qatar-based sister outlet of The New Arab.

The investigation was published in late June as part of the "Gaza Project" led by the Forbidden Stories and joined by an international network of 50 journalists from 13 different media outlets.

On 4 May, Israeli forces fired three bullets towards Shehadeh and Al-Munayer who were covering a military raid in the town of Dayr al-Ghusun near Tulkarm and the clashes which ensued with Palestinian fighters.

In what looks like a tenebrism painting in motion, one short shot of the footage of the Saturday arrest of protester Itamar Alroey stands out.

Alroey is face down, locked in the embrace of another protester who is wearing a bright green Change Direction shirt and trying to protect Alroey, while all around the pair, uniformed police create the dark background that gives the scene its stark quality.

The footage of the arrest went viral after some of it showed a police officer cursing at Alroey and saying to him, “I am going to rape your mother.”

He remembers the moment of that shot from the footage – when he was face down in the other protester’s arms – in part because it is when police kicked his ribs, breaking one.

Lebanon’s caretaker Environment Minister Nasser Yassin said the Israeli army burned more than 1,250 hectares in the south of Lebanon since the start of the year, an area twice as large as all areas burned in 2022 and 2023 combined.

The National News Agency (NNA) quoted Yassin as saying that the Israeli army was carrying out a scorched earth policy, including the use of white phosphorus, to have some form of fire control over the border areas.

A recent video released by the Islamic resistance movement showed Hezbollah fighters launching rockets toward Israel using forest as cover.

The Lebanese minister stated that Israel’s use of white phosphorus was confirmed by three sources: satellite images, soil samples from four sites during a short ceasefire, and reports from human rights organizations such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, which source their information from the UN and other institutions.

Elon Musk heartily endorsed a bill proposed by House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., that seeks to ensure that only American citizens can vote in federal elections. Musk said in a tweet that people who oppose the bill are “TRAITORS.”

The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, originally pushed by Rep. Chip Roy, R-Tx., was announced at a press conference by Johnson in Mar-a-Lago, Fla., earlier in the year.

Johnson circulated a memo among members of the House GOP conference in the days leading up to the Fourth of July recess. On Friday, he continued making the case for the bill on X, formerly Twitter, the social media platform owned by Musk.

"The SAVE Act will safeguard our elections by ensuring only American citizens vote in federal elections," Johnson said. He then followed up with a series of posts on X explaining the legislation.

Webmaster addition: In the United States, federal law prohibits non-citizens from voting in federal elections. The U.S. Code, Title 18, Section 611, makes it a crime for non-citizens to vote in federal elections, and violations can result in fines, imprisonment, or deportation.

A plot by Ukraine’s intelligence services to hijack a Russian Tu-22M3 nuclear-capable strategic bomber has been intercepted, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has said.

Kiev’s spies offered a Russian air force pilot money and Italian citizenship if he agreed to fly the aircraft to Ukraine, the agency said in a statement on Monday.

The involvement of special services of NATO countries in the failed hijacking was uncovered, the FSB said. It did not name specific members of the US-led military bloc.

During the “operational game,” Russian counterintelligence officers were able to obtain information that helped the military to carry out a successful strike again the Ukrainian armed forces’ Ozernoye airfield, it added.

More than six months after the Houthi insurgent group in Yemen started seriously disrupting maritime traffic in the Red Sea, global shipping has had to come to terms with a new normal where delays, derangements, and higher costs are only getting worse.

That is despite the efforts of the U.S., British, and European navies that have been on station the whole time attempting, without success, to neuter the Houthi threat and restore security for the commercial shipping.

That the world’s premier navies appear to be struggling to subdue a band of insurgents raises painful questions about both the utility of sea power and the proficiency of the Western navies that are meant to carry the burden in any future showdown with a major rival such as China. The U.S. Navy admits that it has been in the sharpest fight it has faced since World War II.

Much of the country believes that Joe Biden does not have the mental capacity or physical stamina to be president anymore, and a new investigation into who's been visiting the White House is unlikely to change that perception. Uncorroborated rumors have circled for months that Biden may have Parkinson's disease, but now, a review of who's been visiting is all but guaranteed to make those whispers grow louder.

Neurologist Visits

The New York Post first reported that Dr. Kevin Cannard, one of the nation's leading neurologists, has visited the White House multiple times since 2022. Cannard is a longtime neurologist and an expert in movement disorders with 20 years of service at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

For the past 12 years, he has been the neurology specialist supporting the White House Medical Unit (WHMU). He is also conducting clinical research on the disease with partners at Vanderbilt University. Cannard's most recent paper, “Eleven-year outcomes from the deep brain stimulation in early-stage Parkinson's disease pilot clinical trial,” focuses on the early stages of the neurodegenerative disease.
