Republican John Hostettler has lost his House primary in Indiana, delivering a victory to pro-Israel groups who sought to block the former congressman from returning to Washington. The groups attacked Hostettler as insufficiently supportive of Israel at a time when criticism of Benjamin Netanyahu’s government has hit new highs because of the war in Gaza.

When the Associated Press called the eighth district primary race at 7.49pm ET, less than an hour after the last polls closed in Indiana, Mark Messmer led his opponents with 40% of the vote. Messmer, the Indiana state senate majority leader, will advance to the general election in November, which he is heavily favored to win because of the district’s Republican leanings. The victor will replace Republican congressman Larry Bucshon, who announced his retirement earlier this year.

The primary concludes a contentious race in which pro-Israel groups poured millions of dollars into the district to attack Hostettler, who served in the House from 1995 to 2007. The groups specifically criticized Hostettler’s past voting record on Israel and some comments he made that were deemed antisemitic.

The Immortal Regiment is a massive public event that traditionally takes place on May 9, celebrated in Russia as Victory Day – a holiday dedicated to the country's immense contribution to the victory in World War II. In Russia, the conflict between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany is known as the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945).

Since its inception back in 2012, the celebratory event has spread not only throughout Russia, but across the whole world. Those who participate feel compelled to honor their ancestors during one of Russia’s main holidays.

Today, people all over the world uphold what is now an internationally celebrated tradition of paying homage to the brave Soviet heroes who fought in the war to defeat the Nazis and drive the invaders off Russian land.

Participants commemorate the memory of veterans, with people carrying old pictures of their immediate or extended family members who served in the Red Army fighting the Nazi occupiers, formed resistance movements, or were involved in intense labor working to seal the final victory.

The Yemeni militia has been targeting Israeli, US and UK-linked commercial vessels and warships operating in the Red and Arabian Seas since November 2023, vowing to continue their partial self-imposed blockade until Israel halts its campaign in Gaza, and flouting a recent attempt by Washington to bribe them into stopping their operations.

Yemen’s Houthis ramped up their attacks on commercial vessels on Tuesday, with the UK Maritime Trade Organization reporting that an unidentified merchant ship 82 nautical miles south of Aden, Yemen faced two explosions in “closest proximity” to the vessel. The vessel and its crew were unharmed.

The US military reported overnight Tuesday that it had shot down a Houthi drone over the Red Sea, and announced later in the day that the Dwight D. Eisenhower supercarrier had resumed its operations in the area after a brief port call for resupply. The American warship, deployed in the region since October 14 together with a squadron of missile destroyers, is expected to remain in there until at least “early summer,” according to US officials.

President Xi Jinping of China arrived in Serbia on Tuesday for a two-day visit, landing on the 25th anniversary of the deadly US airstrike on the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade.

The strike, which came during the 1999 NATO air war in support of ethnic Albanian separatists in Kosovo, killed three Chinese nationals and injured 20 more. Beijing never fully accepted Washington’s apology that the strike had been a mistake caused by “old maps.”

China “should never forget” the bombs that claimed the lives of Shao Yunhuan, Xu Xinghu, and Zhu Ying, Xi wrote in an opinion piece published on Tuesday by Serbia’s oldest newspaper, Politika.

“The Chinese people cherish peace, but we will never allow such tragic history to repeat itself,” the president added.

Russia has the right to strike British facilities in Ukraine and outside that country, if London's threats Kiev may carry out attacks with British weapons on Russian territory materialize, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has told TASS.

"If such a scenario is implemented, our country, Russia, reserves the right to respond accordingly, that is, to regard as targets British facilities located both in Ukraine and outside its borders: military facilities, weapons and so on," Zakharova said.

She described British Foreign Secretary David Cameron’s remark that London considered it legitimate for the Kiev regime to use British weapons for strikes on Russian territory as "something absolutely insane."

"This statement is not only illegitimate, but also illogical, because Britain itself stated literally the opposite not so long ago," Zakharova said.

  • Israel has continued to bomb Rafah and the rest of the Gaza Strip as Palestinians remain trapped following the seizure of the vital Rafah crossing on the border with Egypt.
  • A full-scale invasion of Rafah by Israeli forces would be “a strategic mistake, a political calamity, and a humanitarian nightmare”, UN secretary-general warns.
  • “With each day that Israeli authorities block life-saving aid, more Palestinians are at risk of dying,” Human Rights Watch says.
  • Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says a ceasefire proposal agreed to by Hamas “falls far short” of Israel’s demands, but an Israeli delegation has arrived in Cairo for further talks.
  • At least 34,789 people have been killed and 78,204 wounded in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7. The death toll in Israel from Hamas’s October 7 attacks stands at 1,139 with dozens of people still held captive.

A Boeing 767 cargo plane has crashed upon landing in Turkey this morning after its landing gear failed when it came in to land.

The flight, operated by American postal service FedEx, took off from Paris' Charles de Gaulle airport early this morning and was headed for Istanbul when the pilot realised the landing gear was malfunctioning.

Shocking footage showed the moment the plane attempted an emergency landing, smashing down into the runway and scraping its nose along the concrete.

Sparks flew from the plane's tattered fuselage as it crunched along the tarmac with smoke billowing from behind.

The crash will only compound woes for Boeing which is already facing intense scrutiny amid a string of mishaps and controversy over safety concerns - not to mention the deaths of two whistleblowers just two months apart.

The Justice Department has contacted the families of victims of two Boeing 737 Max crashes as it closes in on a decision over whether the company violated a deal that saw it escape criminal prosecution.

In a letter obtained by ABC News, families have been invited to attend a meeting at the end of this month where they will be informed of the DOJ's decision as to whether the beleaguered company breached a deferred prosecution agreement.

It will be the fourth meeting between the DOJ and the families of those who died in the two disastrous 737 MAX crashes that killed 346 people in 2018 and 2019.

Relatives filed a motion arguing that the US government 'lied and violated their rights through a secret process' by allowing Boeing to escape criminal charges.

If prosecutors believe they can make a case that Boeing violated the terms, the aerospace giant could face criminal prosecution.

Webmaster addition: It is being reported that Boeing's DEI hires falsified over 700 inspection reports!

The US paused a shipment of bombs to Israel last week over concerns that Israel was approaching a decision on launching a full-scale assault on the southern Gaza city of Rafah.

The shipment was supposed to consist of 1,800 2,000-pound bombs and 1,700 500-pound bombs, according to a senior administration official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive matter.

More than 1 million civilians are sheltering in Rafah after evacuating other parts of Gaza amid Israel's war on Hamas, which came after the militant group's deadly attack on Israel on Oct. 7.

The Verden regional court in Lower Saxony has upheld a verdict against Rotenburg AfD leader Marie-Thérèse Kaiser for incitement to hatred. The 27-year-old was also found guilty in the appeal hearing on Monday of inciting hatred against Afghan local workers.

For this, the politician now has to pay 100 day fines (a type of fine related to daily income of the convicted) plus a fine of €60, a total of €6,000. In Germany, you are considered to have a criminal record if you are sentenced to pay more than 90 day fines.

The charge was based on a post that Kaiser had spread on her social media accounts in August 2021. In it, she wrote: “Afghanistan refugees; Hamburg SPD mayor for ‘unbureaucratic’ acceptance; Welcoming culture for gang rape?”

Among other things, the politician linked to an article showing that Afghans in Germany are particularly heavily involved in gang rape.

The verdict has now also caught the attention of X CEO Elon Musk. He retweeted a post summarizing the punishment and wrote: “Are you saying the penalty was imposed for repeating accurate government statistics? Was there anything wrong with what she said?”

The Georgia State Election Board is requiring Fulton County to implement an independent election monitor in the 2024 election, after an independent investigation found that the county likely scanned thousands of ballots twice in a recount of the 2020 election.

The state board voted to implement the independent monitor in a 2-1 vote on Tuesday, which ended one of the last probes into the results of the 2020 election, which Trump claimed was stolen from him. The board also voted to dismiss several other complaints against the county, including allegations that it added 16,000 votes to its count before certifying the election, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

The results of the investigation determined that President Joe Biden still won the county over former President Donald Trump, because the vote margin was substantial enough in three independent vote counts. But the county still violated regulations and statues in its counting process.

We are witnessing an explosion of cancer in the United States that is absolutely unprecedented.  As you will see below, it is being projected that the number of new cases of cancer in the U.S. will hit a brand new record high this year, and cancer rates are rising particularly rapidly among our young people.  There have been so many prominent individuals in the news that have been diagnosed with cancer recently, and so many people that I personally know have also been diagnosed with cancer recently.  I am sure that most of you also personally know people that have been affected by this disease.  Of course cancer has been one of the leading causes of death for a very long time, but we have never witnessed anything quite like this.

"Here, ladies and gentlemen, where you stand, lie the ruins and remnants of the Arab Palestinian village of Sar'a.

"It was plundered, and its people, numbering 400 souls, were expelled in July 1948. Yes, expelled. Now, they languish as refugees in camps. Zionist gangs destroyed the village, erecting in its place the Kibbutz Sar'a.

“No superheroes… No tombs for superhuman heroes. Where you stand, there is only catastrophe and a people expelled from their land."

This is an excerpt from the award-winning book, “A Mask, the Colour of the Sky” authored by imprisoned Palestinian author Basim Khandaqji.

Gaza's media office  says the Israeli regime is intentionally worsening the humanitarian crisis by blocking aid entry, after shutting down the Rafah and Kerem Shalom crossings with Egypt, and is attacking hospitals and schools in the eastern part of the border.

Tel Aviv’s occupation regime has opted to intensify the humanitarian crisis by escalating the genocidal war against the Palestinian people in Gaza on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of over 35 civilians, including women and children, within the past 12 hours, a brutal campaign spanning from the northern to the southern regions of the Gaza Strip.

“The occupation has also halted the entry of aid and closed the Rafah and "Kerem Shalom" crossings. It has put hospitals out of service and targeted schools sheltering hundreds of thousands of displaced people by designating them as targets,” Gaza government’s media office said.

The Russian Federation will perceive F-16s in Ukraine as carriers of nuclear weapons, the Russian Foreign Ministry said, adding that Russia reserves the right to react in a mirror way to the deployment of American-made missiles.

The Russian Foreign Ministry's statements on the escalation in Ukraine:

The Russian Tactical nuclear weapons exercises should be viewed in the context of recent belligerent statements by Western officials and destabilizing actions by NATO.

We hope that exercises to test the use of non-strategic nuclear weapons will cool down the “hot heads” in Western capitals.

In response to the actions of the United States, the Russian Federation is intensifying its development and starting production of medium and shorter-range missile systems.

The United States is “at full speed” producing and testing medium and short-range missile systems in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.

The actions of NATO member countries indicate that they are deliberately heading towards an open military clash with Russia.
