On Wednesday, President Joe Biden announced that he would stop sending offensive weapons to Israel “‘if they go into Rafah.” It is the most notable sign of his administration’s shift in its support for Israel’s war to date, but questions remain over how and when the president will follow through on his words.

Meanwhile, the administration paused a recent shipment of bombs to Israel, but it is not a permanent decision, and the president's claim that “they haven’t gone in Rafah yet” — despite the fact that Israel is continually striking the southern Gazan city, have tanks positioned on the periphery, and took control of the the Rafah crossing — suggests that U.S. support may otherwise continue so long as the campaign remains relatively limited.

Behind the scenes in the U.S. government, there has been a bit of turmoil.

At least four federal employees, including three from the State Department, have publicly resigned, explicitly in protest of the administration’s response to the war. This comes amid a number of stories about internal tension in the Biden administration concerning its largely unwavering rhetorical and material support for Benjamin Netanyahu’s government as it prosecutes a war that has now killed nearly 35,000 Palestinians.

In addition, hundreds of civil servants from various government agencies have signed a series of open letters calling on Biden to push for a ceasefire in Gaza and de-escalation in the wider region.

Unfortunately, one federal employee with more than 15 years of service in two government agencies told RS, “the internal messaging to staff mirrors the external messages. And that has been a source of both disappointment and deep frustration.” (Sources asked for anonymity in order to discuss internal dynamics.)

In other words, the informal 'dissent channel' doesn’t seem to be moving the needle, seven months into the war.

Claire's Observations:  That By-di-Bye, and his Bidenistas, are deaf, dumb, and blind to the Israeli genocide in Gaza, should come as utterly no surprise; it has been part of his narrative for years.  But to utterly not listen to people who understand the region's history, it's  politics, and its people , is hubris writ large on the face of this administration, and it will never be able to rid itself of the stench of Palestinian blood in time for the 2024  election, if in fact, an election is held  in November, which is still in doubt.

Sherri Tenpenny, DO, the Ohio physician who claimed COVID vaccines can magnetize people, had her medical license reinstated last month, according to the State Medical Board of Ohio.

Tenpenny's license was suspended indefinitelyopens in a new tab or window in August 2023, but was reinstated during the April 10 board meeting, a spokesperson for the board confirmed to MedPage Today.

"Sherri Tenpenny has met the Medical Board's conditions for reinstatement, including submission of an application for reinstatement, payment of her fine, and certification of cooperation with the board's investigation to date," the spokesperson said, noting that the reinstatement is "effective upon the processing of documents."

Two board members voted no, two members abstained, and seven voted in favor of reinstating Tenpenny's license, though one member noted that her vote was "a reluctant 'yes,'" according to a recording from the board meeting.

Webmaster addition: Thousands of doctors with legitimate concerns about the Covid mRNA "vaccines" permanently lost their licenses, and this clown who pushed magnetization gets her license back?!?

Panama is on the verge of a dramatic change to its immigration policy that could reverberate from the dense Darien Gap jungle to the US border.

President-elect José Raúl Mulino says he will shut down a migration route used by more than 500,000 people last year.

Until now, Panama has helped speedily bus the migrants across its territory so they can continue their journey north.

Whether Mulino is able to reduce migration through a sparsely populated region with little government presence remains to be seen, experts say.

California Governor Gavin Newsom was called out by a reporter after he continued to dodge questions about blowing the state's $24 billion spending on the homeless.

The Golden State's budget deficit is at least $45 billion, a shortfall so large it prompted Newsom to propose painful spending cuts impacting immigrants, kindergarteners and low-income parents seeking child care in a state often lauded for having the world's fifth-largest economy.

California spent $24 billion tackling homelessness over five years but didn't track if the money was helping the state's growing number of unhoused people, a damning report says.

At a press conference announcing his plans, he was asked by Angela Hart of KFF Health News if he felt his administration did enough to ensure the money was well spent and if he was worried the appetite for spending was lessening based on the homelessness program.

Sde Teiman, Israel CNN  —

At a military base that now doubles as a detention center in Israel’s Negev desert, an Israeli working at the facility snapped two photographs of a scene that he says continues to haunt him.

Rows of men in gray tracksuits are seen sitting on paper-thin mattresses, ringfenced by barbed wire. All appear blindfolded, their heads hanging heavy under the glare of floodlights.

A putrid stench filled the air and the room hummed with the men’s murmurs, the Israeli who was at the facility told CNN. Forbidden from speaking to each other, the detainees mumbled to themselves.

“We were told they were not allowed to move. They should sit upright. They’re not allowed to talk. Not allowed to peek under their blindfold.”

Guards were instructed “to scream uskot” – shut up in Arabic – and told to “pick people out that were problematic and punish them,” the source added.

A leaked photograph of the detention facility shows a blindfolded man with his arms above his head.

CNN spoke to three Israeli whistleblowers who worked at the Sde Teiman desert camp, which holds Palestinians detained during Israel’s invasion of Gaza. All spoke out at risk of legal repercussions and reprisals from groups supportive of Israel’s hardline policies in Gaza

Claire's Observations:  These people were very brave, to do this.

Mass graves were found in Gaza following Israel's withdrawal. (Photo: video grab)

By Palestine Chronicle Staff

More than 520 bodies were found in seven mass graves at hospitals in Gaza, the Palestinian Health Ministry in the Strip said Saturday.

“We found 80 bodies in three mass graves in the courtyards of the Al-Shifa Medical Complex and dozens more inside the hospital departments,” the ministry said in a statement.

“A virtual examination of the bodies exhumed from mass graves showed that the largest number of bodies belonged to patients who were deprived of health care,” it added.

Members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) expressed their deep concern on Friday over the discovery of mass graves in the war-torn Gaza Strip.

UNSC Calls for Investigation

In a press statement, The Council members expressed their deep concern over reports of the discovery of mass graves, in and around the Nasser and Al Shifa medical facilities in Gaza, where several hundred bodies, including women, children and older persons, were buried.

They underlined the need for accountability for violations of international law and called for investigators to be allowed unimpeded access to all locations of mass graves in Gaza to conduct immediate, independent, thorough, comprehensive, transparent and impartial investigations to establish the circumstances behind the graves.

He highlights how these protests have reignited support for the Palestinian cause and prompted a new generation of American Jews to challenge the claim that Zionism owns their narrative.

Hearst also delves into the student protests at universities across the United States, and how Columbia has been at the centre of the revolt once again, with an encampment protesting Israel’s assault sparking a wave of similar actions on college campuses across the country and Europe.

On May 1, the US House of Representatives passed the fraudulently titled “Antisemitism Awareness Act of 2023.” It’s not yet law, pending Senate passage and a presidential signature, but the lopsided House vote (320 to 91) should worry all Americans, including the country’s 7.6 million Jews.

In theory, the bill merely clarifies how the US Department of Education should interpret Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which forbids discrimination on the basis of  race, color, religion, sex, and national origin by “federally funded programs,” including most colleges and universities.

In fact, however, the bill – by adopting the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s “working definition of antisemitism” – reveals itself as just another underhanded attempt to suppress freedom of speech by placing new conditions on federal funding.

The bill expressly includes “the ‘[c]ontemporary examples of antisemitism’ identified in the IHRA definition” in its own definition of antisemitism.

Those examples include “[d]enying the Jewish people their right to self-determination, e.g., by claiming that the existence of a State of Israel is a racist endeavor,” as well as “[d]rawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.”

“Jews” (who, by the way, are not the only “semites”) and “Israel” are two entirely different things.

Jews are an ethnic group bound together partly by ancestry and partly by ancestral religious beliefs.

Israel is a Middle Eastern nation-state which clearly, unambiguously, and openly bases itself on a supremacist ideology (Zionism) exploiting that ethnic bond. The Israeli regime treats non-Jews as, at best, second-class citizens in Israel and as rightsless non-citizens in large swaths of occupied territory next door. Comparisons of Israel to Nazi Germany or apartheid-era South Africa aren’t unreasonable.

Most of the world’s Jews choose – in individual acts of “self-determination” – to live outside Israel. In fact, more Jews live in the United States than live in Israel. Many of those Jews  oppose Zionism on principle, and Israeli policies toward neighboring Arab populations in practice.

Under the “Antisemitism Awareness Act,” a university could lose its federal funding if it allowed Jewish students and faculty to express their political opinions. Not because those opinions are “antisemitic,” but because those opinions don’t toe a pro-Israel line.

We already have laws against violence and harassment, which apply whether the victims are Jewish or not.

Wildfires have returned to Canada, with the billowing smoke forcing thousands from their homes and raising the alarm about poor air quality in the United States.

The blaze started Friday in northeast British Columbia and almost doubled in size by the start of the weekend, smoldering just a few miles outside Fort Nelson's city limits. By Sunday, the fire had consumed over 13,500 acres.

Fort Nelson and the Fort Nelson Indian Reserve have a combined population of about 3,000 people, most of whom have been evacuated according to municipality mayor Rob Frayer.

Data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration shows smoke beginning to drift into the U.S., with light to medium coverage in Montana, the Dakotas and Minnesota.

After months of relentless attacks on Gaza, the Israeli regime has refused to consider a ceasefire and has escalated its military operation in Rafah.

This has sparked concerns that the conflict in Gaza may not come to an end anytime soon.

Many experts believe that Israel's intentions are evident and that there will be no permanent ceasefire and the genocide will continue with the ultimate goal of razing Gaza to the ground.

The situation now in Rafah is that you have more than 1.1 million Palestinians, who have been displaced from the north and middle of Gaza to Rafah, in addition to the 250,000 original inhabitants.

You don't speak about between 1.3 and 1.4 million Palestinians who are now scattered and distributed on the borders between Egypt and Rafah.

So any kind of attack, for those people, would be a catastrophic measure.

Mostafa Madbouly, Egyptian Prime Minister

Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly vetoed a bill on Friday that aimed to prevent companies of China and other “foreign adversaries” from acquiring real property near military installations in the state.

Senate Bill 172 aims to block individuals or companies from “countries of concern” from owning any interest in land located within a 100-mile radius of a military installation in Kansas.

Under the bill, any foreign principal that owns or acquires any interest in real property in Kansas would be required to file registration with the attorney general and divest of the property.

The Democratic governor has vetoed the proposed legislation, saying that the bill contains provisions that are “overly broad” and “not narrowly tailored” to protect the state from foreign adversaries.

“While I agree that it is important for our state to implement stronger protections against foreign adversaries, this legislation contains multiple provisions that are likely unconstitutional and cause unintended consequences,” Ms. Kelly said in a statement.

Additionally, the retroactive nature of this legislation raises further serious constitutional concerns,” she added.

Ms. Kelly said the legislature should consider proposals that protect Kansas from “bad actors” without affecting the state’s legitimate business relationships with potential trading partners and small businesses.

“I am not willing to sign a bill that has the potential to hurt the state’s future prosperity and economic development,” the governor stated.

According to a report by Kansas State University, foreign investors from China own a single acre of privately held agricultural land in the state. China is among the countries listed as U.S. foreign adversaries.

As of 2021, China ranked as the third-largest export market for Kansas, trailing behind Mexico and Canada, according to a Kansas Export Statistics Executive Summary.

Republicans Voice Disappointment

Kansas Republicans have criticized Ms. Kelly’s decision to veto the bill. House Speaker Dan Hawkins, Majority Leader Chris Croft, and Speaker Pro Tempore Blake Carpenter issued a joint statement saying that the governor is putting military installations in Kansas at risk.

Foreign adversaries, such as China, have made their intentions toward the U.S. and our democracy abundantly clear,” Mr. Hawkins said in the statement.

“It’s shameful that our governor has chosen not to take those threats seriously, leaving Kansas’ critical infrastructure and military installments exposed,” he added.

Mr. Croft described the governor’s veto as “beyond disappointing,” saying that it leaves the state’s military bases and other critical infrastructure “wide open for adversarial foreign governments.”

“The assets of this state are too important for us to sit on our hands and wait until it’s too late,” he stated. “This bill was carefully designed with input from everyone who wanted a say on how we should move forward.”

Mr. Carpenter said he remains committed to protecting the military installations in Kansas and “ensuring that the Chinese Communist Party and other foreign adversaries do not compromise Kansas’s safety.”

Similar Legislation in Other States

Similar legislation has been introduced in several states, including Georgia, Iowa, Utah, and Oklahoma. The South Carolina Senate passed a bill in March that will partly ban companies or citizens of foreign adversaries from acquiring real property in the state.

Stop AAPI Hate, a coalition aimed at ending discrimination against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, has condemned the measure and said it could stoke “xenophobia” among Asian American communities.

These land ban laws label our communities as untrustworthy, blame them for the actions of another country’s government, and stoke the flames of racism, xenophobia, and hate,” Cynthia Choi, co-founder of Stop AAPI Hate, said in a statement after Georgia’s passage of the bill.

As of December 2021, China accounted for 383,935 acres of the 40 million acres of U.S. agricultural land owned by foreign investors, according to a report by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

While the acreage under Chinese ownership is slightly less than 1 percent of all foreign-held agricultural land, it represents a nearly 30-fold leap from 13,720 acres in 2010, according to a U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission report

The Palestinian Health Ministry in the Gaza Strip says the ongoing Israeli onslaught has claimed the lives of hundreds of doctors and medical staff across the besieged territory.

In a statement released on Sunday, the ministry said the regime’s forces have killed at least 500 medical personnel across Gaza since the Israeli genocide started early last October.

It added that the figure includes at least 138 nurses who have lost their lives as a result of the regime’s indiscriminate strikes.

The ministry called on the international community to take necessary measures to “protect medical personnel and health institutions in Gaza.”

The head of the United Nations’ agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, has rejected Israel’s claim about setting up so-called safe zones for the displaced people of Gaza as “false and misleading.”

UNRWA’s Commissioner General Philippe Lazzarini made the remark in a Sunday post on X social media platform.

Since the onset of its genocidal war on Gaza over seven months ago, the Israeli occupation forces have been pounding Gaza with incessant attacks from air, sea and land, mass-killing the helpless civilians in the blockaded territory.

Throughout its Gaza onslaught, the regime has claimed to have determined “safe zones” for civilians, encouraging them to take shelter there. However, as admitted by various UN officials, there have been actually no safe havens for displaced Gazans, as Israeli forces’ indiscriminate strikes and artillery fire have been wreaking havoc on those areas, which had been previously declared safe by the regime, including the southern cities of Rafah and Khan Yunis.

The Palestinian death toll from the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip has surged since last October to 35,034 people, the health ministry in the besieged enclave said on May 12.

At least 78,755 other people have been injured in the war, the ministry, which is run by the Hamas Movement, added in a statement.

“Israeli attacks killed 63 people and injured 114 others in the last 24 hours,” the statement said. “Many people are still trapped under rubble and on the roads as rescuers are unable to reach them.”

The announcement came as the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) launched a ground operation in the Jabaliya refugee camp in northern Gaza.

Israel must do whatever needs to be done to win its “existential” war with Hamas, just like the US was “justified” to drop nuclear bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) has claimed.

The Israeli military is facing increasing international scrutiny as its military operation in Gaza enters its eighth month, claiming the lives of more than 34,000 Palestinians. However, Graham argued in an interview with NBC News on Sunday that Hamas is to blame for the bulk of civilian casualties, and urged Israel to continue fighting until a decisive victory is achieved, no matter the cost.

“When we were faced with destruction as a nation after Pearl Harbor, fighting the Germans and the Japanese, we decided to end the war by bombing Hiroshima, Nagasaki, with nuclear weapons,” Graham stated.

Webmaster addition: Maybe Israel will let Lindsey watch! I'll bet he would like that!
