"Free people can say “no”. Free people can refuse demands for their money, time, and children. Slaves cannot. There is no freedom without the freedom to say “no”. If someone demands that you do something and you can say “no” and refuse to do it, then you are a free human being. If you can be forced to do something or surrender something that you do not wish to, then you are a slave. No other test need be applied" -- Michael Rivero

As Israel's assault on Gaza continues on the ground, a parallel battle rages on social media between people and bots.

Lebanese researchers Ralph Baydoun and Michel Semaan, from research and strategic communications consulting firm InflueAnswers, decided to monitor how what seemed like “Israeli” bots have behaved on social media since October 7.

Early on, Baydoun and Semaan said, pro-Palestinian accounts dominated the social media space. Soon, they noticed, pro-Israeli comments increased vastly.

“The idea is that if a [pro-Palestinian] activist posts something, within five... 10… or 20 minutes or a day, a significant amount of [comments on their post] are now pro-Israeli,” Semaan said.

“Almost every tweet is essentially bombarded and swarmed by many accounts, all of whom follow very similar patterns, all of whom seem almost human.”

But they are not human. They are bots.

Harvard University’s governing board rejected an effort from faculty Wednesday to allow a group of 13 students sanctioned due to their participation in pro-Palestine protests to receive their degrees and graduate.

The Harvard Corporation veto of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) decision, which The Harvard Crimson described as “unprecedented,” underlines tensions between the university’s faculty and administration in the wake of mass pro-Palestine protests that have roiled college campuses this year.

FAS voted Monday to recommend that the 13 sanctioned students be allowed to receive degrees and graduate despite their disciplinary violations, going against a decision from the university’s administrative board last week. The corporation’s veto of that faculty vote again bars the students from graduating.

The Air Force has been unable to pinpoint what caused last year’s costly spike in maintenance-related aircraft mishaps, according to the service’s top leaders.

In an interview with Air Force Times, Chief of Staff Gen. David Allvin, the service’s highest-ranking officer, and Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force David Flosi, its top enlisted leader, said that while attempts to find a particular culprit behind the accidents have not borne answers, the service is continuing to examine why mishaps jumped. The service is “doubling down” on managing risk at the unit level, Allvin said, while ensuring airmen’s training isn’t rushed — potentially endangering troops who misunderstand instructions or skip steps.

A trove of new whistleblower documents provided to House GOP investigators reveal, among other things, that the CIA prevented federal investigators from pursuing Hollywood lawyer Kevin Morris as a witness in their investigation of Hunter Biden.

Photo: Valerie Plesch for The New York Times

Morris, a Hollywood entertainment lawyer who has 'long supported' Hunter (and why?) has loaned the First Son more than $6.5 million, according to a January letter to the House oversight committee.

We've known about the CIA connection since March, when the Chairmen of the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees, Jim Jordan (R-OH) and James Comer (R-KY) said that a whistleblower has brought them information that 'seems to corroborate our concerns' that the CIA directly interfered with DOJ and IRS investigations of Hunter Biden.

No, this is not a joke.

The Waterfront Partnership, led by Laurie Schwartz for nearly two decades, and Baltimore City Mayor Brandon Scott have announced that the water in the Inner Harbor—a long-standing industrial port city on the East Coast known for its history of industry, manufacturing, shipping, transportation, toxic pollutants, and chronic sewage spillovers—has suddenly become "swimmable and fishable."

On June 23, Baltimore City Mayor Brandon Scott will make the ceremonial jump into the Baltimore Harbor from a floating dock at Bond Street Wharf in Fells Point to celebrate the Waterfront Partnership's milestone of allegedly creating a harbor clean enough to swim in.

"I know the data, I know the water is safe, and that's why I'll be jumping in the harbor," Scott said on the nonprofit's website.

One month after the FBI announced it was looking into international flights New York Democratic Mayor Eric Adams took on Turkish Airlines, a top City Hall aide is reportedly now cooperating with the probe.

Rana Abbasova, whom the New York Times described as the mayor's former liaison to New York City's Turkish community, is cooperating with federal agents, according to the outlet. The investigation is centered on whether Adams' 2021 campaign conspired with the Turkish government and others to funnel money into its coffers.

The multipronged FBI investigation partially focuses on Turkish Airlines upgrades received by Adams. In November 2023, agents raided the home of former Turkish Airlines executive and Adams mayoral transition team member Cenk Öcal. Federal agents also seized some of Adams' phones and an iPad in November.

Abbasova's cooperation reportedly began a few weeks after the FBI raided her home in early November.

With the general election happening in just a few months, many are speculating on Trump’s plans. He has clinched the Republican nomination. Now, many are awaiting his VP running mate announcement.

Trump has promised to reveal his pick before the Republican National Convention in the summer. But there are other key roles he will need to fill, should he return to the White House.

During an event over the weekend, reporters asked Trump about a certain notable Republican. He is an icon in a major red state and just defended a leftist-led attempt at destroying his career. And Trump had this to say about his future role in the Trump administration.

From The Post Millennial:
President Donald Trump has revealed that he would consider Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton for national AG if Trump wins in November.

Joe Biden received tremendous support from black voters in 2020. He even claimed that black Americans supporting Trump “ain’t black.” Despite this, it seems that Biden’s policies have done nothing to help black Americans.

He is a far cry from Barack Obama, the man he served under as vice president. While it seemed that Obama could do no wrong, black Americans have not been pleased with old Joe’s performance.

The former chief of police in Detroit recently wrote an op-ed criticizing Biden’s time in office. He did not pull any punches, pointing out the many failures of this White House. And he said Biden has done this to the black community.

From The Post Millennial:
On Sunday, a former chief of the Detroit Police Department said that the Biden administration’s policies are “devastating” the black community. In an op ed in the Detroit Free Press, James Craig said, “Whether it is ‘Bidenomics’ or the crisis at the southern border, the Biden Administration has proven that it will stop at nothing to continue its failed agendas, even if it means turning its back on the Black community.”

The United Nations Security Council has voted against a resolution introduced by Russia and China that would ban member states from placing weapons of any kind in outer space.

This isn't the first time these two countries have suggested such an idea. In late April, the United States and Japan introduced a resolution of their own that sought specifically to ban the deployment of weapons of mass destruction; at the time, Russia and China introduced an amendment to this resolution that had similar tones to their recent resolution that's been struck down. That Russian-Chinese amendment sought to "prevent for all time the placement of weapons in outer space, and the threat of use of force in outer space."

For those hoping for a brighter financial outlook, the recent performance of retail giant Target serves as a stark wake-up call. Target’s stock, $TGT, has plummeted 8% following weaker-than-expected earnings, with a 3% revenue decline highlighting the fragility of consumer strength. CEO Brian Cornell pointed to “continued soft trends in discretionary categories” as a key factor in this downturn.

UFC fighter Bryce Mitchell (AKA Thug Nasty) introduced newborn Tucker James to the world on Wednesday, declaring he would not be vaccinating his son or sending him to public school to avoid socialist indoctrination.

“Hey, I want to show you all Tucker James,” the UFC featherweight fighter said in an Instagram post. “He’s over 12 pounds now, he’s born at 7.8 pounds. So he’s very healthy. He’s doing very good.”

“I wanted to encourage you not to vaccinate your children because I think it’s bad for their health. It could potentially kill them, give them some type of…make ’em autistic. I mean, seriously, these vaccines are poisonous. So don’t vaccinate your kids.”

In a move that seems like parody, but sadly isn’t, a bill that passed both houses in Illinois yesterday would change the word “offender” to “justice-impacted individual” in state law.

Illinois House Bill 4409 also adds Illinois Department of Corrections representation to the Adult Redeploy Illinois oversight board.

After passing both the House and Senate, it can now be sent to the governor for further action.

Cancer DNA robots, also known as DNA nanorobots, are tiny machines made of DNA that can be programmed to target and destroy cancer cells. These robots are constructed using a method called “DNA origami,” a technique that allows scientists to create complex shapes and structures from DNA molecules.

DNA origami nanorobots use long DNA chains that are folded into specific shapes, creating tiny containers.  They can recognise specific cell types using molecules called aptamers.  Once they reach their target cells, they can deliver payloads such as drug molecules.

“In essence, the approach co-opts a number of strategies of our immune systems, with the robots playing the role of white blood cells that hunt down problematic cells and destroy them,” the BBC reported in 2012.

The BBC was reporting on laboratory tests that had been conducted by researchers at the Wyss Institute at Harvard University.

Harvard’s DNA nanorobot is a clam-like bot that can release its drug payload only when it reaches and identifies its target, cancer cells.

In 2015, The Week also reported on the work of the researchers at Harvard’s Wyss Institute. The tiny devices were constructed out of DNA strands and folded into a shape resembling a clamshell, The Week wrote, noting that the nanorobots can be pre-programmed to open up in the presence of cancerous cells.  When they open, they release antibodies that cause the cancer cells to self-destruct

In 2023, Tech Times reported on researchers from New York University, USA, and Ningbo, China, who had created self-replicating nanorobots entirely made of DNA.

Not all nanorobots being researched use long DNA chains.  In 2017, the World Economic Forum published an article about researchers at Durham University in the UK developing molecular nanomachines with short peptide addends.  These tiny robots – 50,000 of them would fit across the diameter of a human hair – were touted to have the potential to pack a mighty punch in the fight against cancer. The researchers used nanobots to drill into cancer cells, killing them in just 60 seconds.

In the video below, researchers at Rice, Durham and North Carolina State Universities demonstrated in laboratory tests how the molecular nanomachines driven by light have been used to drill holes in the membranes of individual cells.

Claire's Observations:  what I love seeing.... is how quickly, in this moment in the 21st century, technology which  once looked like "science fiction"..... is rapidly becoming "science fact."

Hopefully, this technology will lead to much better outcomes for cancer patients all over the world, and create something as close to a "cure" for this dread disease, as humankind possibly can., short of an outright "cure"

This is not a joke: According to a job listing, President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign needs someone to manage memes. The “Partner Manager, Content and Meme Pages” hire will “initiate and manage day-to-day operations in engaging the internet’s top content and meme pages.” The job pays up to $85,000.

Yes, it’s absurd to be a professional meme manager. But in this age, digital organizing is just as valuable as canvassing IRL at a farmers market. If a candidate is trying to meet voters where they are, then they need to be online, where going viral can mean connecting with millions of people. That’s why Biden’s campaign has a TikTok account, even though the president signed a bill that could effectively ban the app.

Webmaster addition: I told you the Democrats were trying to hijack X!

America’s universities are on fire. A protest movement against the violence in Gaza and U.S. colleges’ complicity in them has swept the nation, with encampments on college campuses in 45 of America’s 50 states. The crackdown has been swift; thousands of students have been arrested, charged, fined, lost their degrees, or even deported. Amid corporate media demanding a “Kent State 2.0”, riot police, armored vehicles and snipers have been deployed across the country to terrify those campaigning for justice into silence.

Why have overwhelmingly peaceful demonstrations against a foreign power’s actions been met with such a heavy-handed response? A MintPress News investigation finds that those same elite institutions have deep financial and ideological ties to the state of Israel, are funded by pro-Israel billionaires who have demanded they take action to crush the student movement, are partially funded by the Israeli government, and exist in a climate where Washington has made it clear that the protests should not be tolerated.
