"If justice requires the consent of the governed, then our [U.S.] whole past record of expansion is a crime." -- Henry Cabot Lodge,1850-1924, US senator
That’s right, that wasn’t a typo -- Wyoming GOP Rep. Liz Cheney’s husband is a partner at the law firm that represents Hunter Biden.
Perry has worked at Latham & Watkins since 2007. According to his company biography, he mostly works on white-collar cases, commercial, and Supreme Court litigation. Meanwhile, a different partner at the firm, Chris Clark, has been representing Hunter Biden since December 2020 — though Cheney’s husband’s involvement at the firm had not been previously known.
The firm of Latham & Watkins is a well-renowned powerhouse for the Democratic Party, with company attorneys and other employees donating more than half a million dollars to President Biden’s 2020 campaign, according to records from the Federal Election Commission. Clark himself forked over some $3,800.
Donald Trump claims all of the documents seized by the FBI from Mar-a-Lago were declassified and in “secure storage” at the resort. But one of the former president’s own attorneys didn’t exactly instill a lot of confidence about just how “secure” that storage was.
“It was a locked door, and getting back down into the basement, there’s security, you can’t just walk down there,” Christina Bobb told Laura Ingraham on Thursday. “Only certain members of staff can get there, and then there’s only one key.”
Bobb added that “a limited number of people” had access to that area:
Russian energy giant Gazprom announced on Friday that transit of natural gas to the European Union via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline will be halted from August 31 to September 2 for maintenance.
“On August 31, the only working Trent 60 gas compressor unit will be shut down for three days for maintenance,” the company stated, noting that all repairs will be carried out jointly with specialists from the German manufacturer, Siemens.
Gazprom added that “Upon completion of work and the absence of technical malfunctions of the unit, gas transportation will be restored to the level of 33 million cubic meters per day,” representing roughly 20% of the pipeline’s full capacity.
The unit is the last one of the pipeline’s six turbines that was operational, with the rest in need of an overhaul. One of the turbines is currently stranded in Germany due to sanctions, after returning from repair works in Canada.
As prices at the pump remain 64% higher than those at the time of President Joe Biden’s inauguration, CNN Business’ front page was emblazoned with the headline: “America got a raise.”
It is very ironic that the politicians blame guns as the culprit of mass shootings when it’s almost always registered Democrats pulling the trigger. The Democrat politicians not only point the finger at the automatic or semi-automatic guns, but indirectly blame their own registered voters for the crimes, then try to illegally and unconstitutionally confiscate guns from Republicans and conservatives. The whole gun-grabbing campaign is hinged on emotional highs just after registered Democrats shoot up a school, movie theatre or college campus. What a farce.
Mass shooters are almost always Democrats and Leftists, not NRA members or Republicans

Riley Williams, 25, has been under house arrest since being indicted on charges in connection to the laptop theft last year, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.
Williams was granted an eight-hour break to go on a trip to the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire that begins Saturday, a court order revealed, less than a year after officials indicted her for her role in the deadly riot.
The accused rioter is set to attend a fair where events include the “Tournament of Arms,” “Ultimate Joust,” and “Boarshead Brawl,” according to the fair’s website.
Former CIA Director Michael Hayden on Wednesday agreed with a British journalist's contention that Republicans were more "nihilistic" and "dangerous" than extremist groups and dictatorships around the world.
"I've covered extremism and violent ideologies around the world over my career," tweeted Financial Times columnist Edward Luce on Thursday. "Have never come across a political force more nihilistic, dangerous & contemptible than today's Republicans. Nothing close."
The Episcopal Church has officially praised medical transition for trans-identified children "at all ages" with the adoption of Resolution D066. It affirms the church's backing for "gender-affirming care" of any type and for any age, including children.
The 80th General Convention was held in June of this year, where the bishops' and deputies' committees suggested 16 resolutions on matters varying from abortion to election security. A final hearing was held in the evening on Resolution D066, which would call on the Episcopal Church "to advocate for access to gender-affirming care in all forms … and at all ages." The resolution was suggested in response to the laws recently passed in red states to safeguard children from irreversible treatments and surgeries that the Episcopal Church calls "anti-transgender legislation."
The City of New York is seeking to take over 5,000 more hotel rooms to house asylum seekers being transferred from the southern border temporarily, according to The New York Post.
New York City has contracted 11 hotels so far to provide temporary housing for homeless families after the population rose in the last few months, from 46,591 people last January to 52,379 as of Monday, according to DHS shelter census data analyzed by City Limits.
One staffer at the Row NYC, which is located in Times Square, told the Post that "In a month or two, we're about to open up for [the New York City Department of Homeless Services], for homeless."
Requess for former President Donald Trump to publish the Mar-a-Lago surveillance footage of the FBI raid has persisted since the raid unfolded last week.
Son Eric Trump, the Trump Organization executive Vice President, has promised in TV appearances that the footage will be published "at the right time," but a source told CNN that Donald Trump might not have even seen it in full yet.
"I don't think it's been shared by anyone outside of the attorneys," the source told CNN.
CatholicVote, a top Catholic group, is planning a massive ad campaign urging Biden to condemn the attacks on churches all across America.
In an incident replete with symbolism, a video shows Biden administration agents opening a gate that the Texas National Guard had closed to keep illegal immigrants out of the country.
According to a new report, Liz Cheney received a call from Joe Biden after she lost her primary race in Wyoming.
Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa says the FBI follows the politics instead of the evidence because of pervasive political bias within the agency.
Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) spoke on a right-wing radio show this past Tuesday and suggested that Social Security and Medicare be eliminated as federal entitlement programs and become subject to approval by Congress each year as part of its discretionary spending authority. (You can listen to Johnson’s words at this link.)
What Johnson is proposing is the decades-long dream of fossil fuels billionaire Charles Koch and his late brother, David. And that makes perfect sense because, to a large degree, Johnson owes his Senate seat to two Koch-funded front groups, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) and Freedom Partners. In Johnson’s close 2016 race against Democrat Russ Feingold, Americans for Prosperity and the Freedom Partners Action Fund ran ad campaigns for Johnson. The Center for Media and Democracy reported last year that “In the 2016 cycle, Freedom Partners Action Fund, the main Koch-backed super PAC at the time, dropped nearly $3 million into the Wisconsin Senate race to support Johnson and attack his liberal opponent, Russ Feingold.”
But Johnson doesn’t just work to further the Koch agenda. The agenda of billionaires Richard (Dick) and Elizabeth (Liz) Uihlein are near and dear to his heart. The Uihleins own packaging supplies company, Uline. Dick Uihlein is an heir to the Schlitz brewing fortune.
According to FEC records, Liz Uihlein has contributed $3 million year-to-date to the Wisconsin Truth PAC, which has in turn spent $5.6 million supporting Ron Johnson’s campaign.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has revised its guidance related to animals and the monkeypox virus after a gay couple in France is suspected of transferring the virus to their dog.
According to a paper issued in The Lancet, two male partners, who were sleeping with other partners too, passed monkeypox to their Italian greyhound 12 days after they started exhibiting symptoms.
The males, one aged 44 and the other 27, started experiencing symptoms of the virus single days after sleeping with other partners.
“The men had presented with anal ulceration 6 days after sex with other partners,” the paper said. “In patient 1, anal ulceration was followed by a vesiculopustular rash on the face, ears, and legs; in patient 2, on the legs and back. In both cases, rash was associated with asthenia, headaches, and fever 4 days later.”
Around two weeks after the couple had symptoms, their dog tested positive for the virus, too.
The jaw-dropping trailer for new movie, My Son Hunter has been released showing the 'corrupt' history of scandal of President Biden's son - including a shocking scene where the 79-year-old president kisses one of his Secret Service agents.
The 23-second teaser video, exclusively obtained by DailyMail.com, shows quick clips of Laurence Fox of the British show Lewis, who plays Hunter, and Dynasty's John James, who plays President Biden.
The movie, available for pre-purchase, is told through the lens of a Secret Service agent who serves as a sort of narrator, played by Gina Carano. A full trailer will be released on August 26.
Carano shot to fame in 2020 after being canceled and fired by Disney from The Mandalorian Star Wars production for her anti-woke views and criticism of Black Lives Matter.
While there are warnings on the website for My Son Hunter of the outrageous content containing 'sex, prostitution, drugs', there are also nods to the movies' more satirical humor.
The head of Germany's energy regulator said on Thursday that the country would almost certainly fail to meet its gas reserve targets in the face of a Russian supply squeeze.
"I am not counting on our achieving our next reserve goals as quickly as the first," Klaus Mueller, president of the Federal Network Agency, told news website t-online.
He said the next benchmark -- 85 percent capacity by October 1 "is not impossible but certainly very ambitious".
"We fall short of an average level of 95 percent by November 1 in all our projections," he added.
Railway and postal staff, dockers too. Britain's workers are striking in vast numbers as decades-high inflation erodes the value of wages at a record pace.
Britain's train network faces further heavy disruption Thursday and Saturday in major walkouts that follow the sector's biggest strike action for 30 years already this summer.
Tens of thousands of staff are expected to strike over the two days, leaving a skeleton train service that will hit holidaymakers and commuters, even if home-working continues for many office staff after Covid restrictions were lifted.
London's underground railway, the Tube, will be hit by a strike Saturday, ahead of an eight-day stoppage starting Sunday by dockers at Felixstowe, Britain's largest freight port that is situated in eastern England.
ritain's next prime minister will not have room to make large, permanent tax cuts, the Institute for Fiscal Studies said on Thursday, challenging the plans of the two Conservative candidates vying to succeed Boris Johnson as prime minister.
Foreign Secretary Liz Truss wants to reverse more than 30 billion pounds ($36 billion) of recent and upcoming tax rises from her rival, former finance minister Rishi Sunak, who says he wants to cut taxes once inflation is under control.
However, the IFS - sometimes seen as an unofficial arbiter of government spending plans - said the highest inflation in 40 years would require extra public spending in the short term.
Debt servicing costs alone are set to be 54 billion pounds higher next year than the government's budget watchdog forecast in March.
British households are feeling "a sense of exasperation" about the surging cost of living which has pushed consumer sentiment to its lowest since at least 1974, according to the country's longest-running survey of household finances.
The GfK consumer sentiment index sank to a record-low -44 in August from July's reading of -41, which was already the lowest since the survey began. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast a drop to -42.
Households' assessment of their personal finances and the general economic situation declined, both looking back at the past 12 months and for the year ahead.
"All measures fell, reflecting acute concerns as the cost of living soars. A sense of exasperation about the UK's economy is the biggest driver of these findings," said Joe Staton, GfK's client strategy director.
British consumer sentiment has declined steadily over the past year as inflation has risen sharply, climbing above 10% last month for the first time since 1982.
Britain's opposition Labour Party said parliament should be recalled on Monday to freeze energy bills for the winter as the country deals with the worst cost-of-living crisis in decades.
The demand to outgoing Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the two Conservative Party candidates vying to replace him coincides with the next expected energy price cap rise on Friday when parliament is in recess for the summer.
Johnson has faced criticism from within and outside his party that he is in charge of a directionless government that is unwilling to help the public with soaring energy bills.
Charities in Britain are warning that millions of people could be forced into poverty if the government does not come up with a new support package.

Cybercriminals prefer to use legitimate sites and services in their phishing scams, not just to trick unsuspecting victims but to sneak past security scanners that would otherwise block traffic from a suspicious site. In a report released Thursday, email security provider Avanan describes a new phishing campaign that takes advantage of Amazon Web Services.
As one of the most popular cloud storage and hosting products, AWS is a tempting target for cybercriminals, especially since it lets anyone create and host webpages. The service allows you to design and host a website using either WordPress or your own custom code. But just as legitimate users can tap into AWS so can malicious attackers.
The head of Poland’s central bank has claimed that Germany is eying up ways of seizing territory lost to Poland after the end of the Second World War.
Adam Glapiński, the President of the Central Bank of Poland, also accused former Polish prime minister and European Council president Donald Tusk, whose “centrist” party was ousted by the current national conservative one, of aiming to overthrow Poland’s current political order with the backing of Germany in the hopes of creating of a federal EU superstate — a stated aim of the current sitting German government.
In an interview with local publication Gazeta Polska, the central banker accuses Germany of wanting to subordinate “the entire belt of countries between Germany and Russia” — seemingly through the European Union.
This, he claims, has long been part of Germany’s “basic national interests”, which allegedly involve “the merger of the German states, or the absorption of practically the GDR, i.e. the former Soviet occupation zone, and since the completion of this task, about regaining some form of their former lands, which are now within the borders of Poland”.

Eleven Moroccan children were rescued by Spanish authorities near the exclave of Ceuta this week after they attempted to cross the Strait of Gibraltar alone in a small boat.
The 11 children, said to be aged between six and 11 years old, were first seen by a lifeguard on a beach in Ceuta and were intercepted just over half a mile off the North African coast as their small boat was headed toward the Spanish mainland.
According to the lifeguard, who spotted the boat with his binoculars, the boys were using sticks and their hands in an effort to guide the boat toward the Spanish coast, El Mundo reports.
The lifeguard then took a jet ski to meet the boat and alerted the Civil Guard and Maritime Rescue, who collected the young children from the sea.
According to El Mundo, the children set off from Ceuta after several of the children had already been received into the migrant reception system in the city, one of two Spanish exclaves which lie on the North African coast.
