It comes as Wyangala Dam spilled record amounts of water, after 100mm rain fell in just a few hours in parts of the NSW Central West. Helicopters and boats were used to carry out over 150 rescues in the inundated town of Eugowra, where people were forced to make for their roofs as floodwaters rose.
The US Department of Treasury has added the names of 13 companies to its Iran sanctions list, accusing them of commercial liaison with the Islamic Republic's energy sector.
The sanctions were announced by the department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) on Thursday.
The companies in question, the OFAC announced in a statement on its website, were slapped with the coercive measures for "facilitating the sale of hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of Iranian petrochemicals and petroleum products to buyers in East Asia."
The targeted entities would function as front companies "on behalf of sanctioned Iranian petrochemical brokers Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industry Commercial Co. (PGPICC) and Triliance Petrochemical Co. Ltd. (Triliance), as well as the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) and its marketing arm, Naftiran Intertrade Company Ltd. (NICO)," it added.
The OFAC said the sanctions marked the fifth round of designations targeting Iran’s petroleum and petrochemical trade since June 2022.
The special military operation in Ukraine does not depend on weather conditions, it is continuing and its goals will be achieved, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the media on Thursday.
"The special military operation is continuing, it does not depend on climatic or weather conditions," Peskov said. He added that "its goals must be achieved."
While answering a question about millions of Ukrainian citizens who remained without electric and thermal power supply on November 15 due to combat operations at a time when weather forecasts predicted lower air temperatures, Peskov said that this was a result of strikes on military infrastructure due to Kiev’s reluctance to conduct negotiations with Russia.
The Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) adopted a resolution that calls on Russia to withdraw its military personnel from the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) and to "cease all actions" at nuclear facilities in Ukraine, the Russian permanent mission to international organizations in Vienna said, adding that Russia and China voted against the resolution.
"At the meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors on November 17, 2022 an unprofessionally drafted resolution that goes beyond the agency's mandate and contains factual errors on nuclear safety, nuclear security and safeguards in Ukraine was adopted. This is a further step towards politicizing the work of the IAEA," the Russian mission said on Telegram.
The document was supported by 24 out of 35 countries. Russia and China voted against it. Vietnam, India, Kenya, Namibia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa abstained. The delegations of Burundi and Libya did not vote.
According to the text of the resolution, the IAEA Board of Governors calls on Russia to "cease all actions" at nuclear facilities in Ukraine.

On November 16, five people, including a child and woman, were killed and at least 15 others were wounded in the oil-rich Khuzestan province in southwestern Iran as a result of what the official Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) called a “terrorist attack”.
Security Deputy of Khuzestan said that deadly attack was carried out by two motorcyclists who opened fire on people in a busy local market in the city of Izeh. Members of the security forces were among those killed in the attack, according to the official, who also revealed that some of the wounded are in critical condition.
The ship mounted version of the Iron Dome air-defense system, dubbed C-Dome, has officially entered service with the Israeli Navy.
In a joint statement released on November 17, the Israeli Ministry of Defense and Navy said that the system entered service after a successful test last month aboard the Sa’ar 6-class corvette INS Oz, simulating threats the system is likely to face at sea. The test was conducted off the coast of central Israel, with representatives from the navy and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems taking part.
“The test simulated real threats and included the system’s successful detection and interception of targets in challenging scenarios,” the ministry said, adding that the test represented a “significant milestone in enhancing the capabilities of the corvettes” and marked “the final stage of the naval interception system’s operationalization.”
The C-Dome system can be seen intercepting a missile launched from another ship during the test in a video that was released by the ministry.

Mandatory “LGBTQ+ diversity” sex education in Welsh schools aimed at children as young as three is both “extreme and unbalanced”, the High Court has heard.
A barrister representing a group of parents in Wales has told the High Court that mandatory sex education introduced this year is both “extreme and unbalanced” in its content.
The sex ed classes have reportedly been made compulsory for all children aged three and over within the Welsh primary education system — there is said to be no parental opt-out clause — with children as young as three being taught about “inclusive behaviours, language and role modelling” for all “genders”.
According to a report by The Telegraph, parents believe that the sex ed course, which aims to instruct children on “diversity within different types of relationships, including LGBTQ+ diversity”, is biased, giving no space for families who have different philosophical or religious perspectives.
A new guaranteed income program for transgender residents of San Francisco includes 97 gender options on its application, plus 19 sexual orientations — including several anti-gay slurs — and 18 options for pronouns.
The city-sponsored program, called Guaranteed Income for Trans People (GIFT), will “provide low-income transgender residents with $1,200 each month, up to 18 months,” according to local ABC affiliate KGO.
In a statement, the City of San Francisco said: “GIFT is one of several programs the City is developing, implementing, and evaluating to identify how to best support San Francisco residents and promote economic stability and recovery.”
The city also said that the new pilot program is the first guaranteed income initiative to focus solely on transgender people and will provide 55 eligible participants with temporary income. Additionally, the city said it will provide the same individuals with “wrap-around” direct services, such as gender-affirming medical and mental health care, case management, specialty care services and financial coaching.
The application specifies that recipients must live in the city, earn less than $600 per month, and identify as “transgender, nonbinary, gender nonconforming, or intersex.” It also adds an extensive list of identity labels.

The family business of former US President Donald Trump has signed a licensing deal worth $1.6 billion with a real estate developer based in Saudi Arabia to build a resort in Oman, as the 76-year-old businessman-turned-politician prepares his return to presidential politics.
The Trump Organization, a group of about 500 business entities of which Donald Trump is the sole or principal owner, inked the deal with Dar Al Arkan, a Saudi real estate giant, to license its name to a housing and golf complex, the New York Times reported early this week.
The huge project - dubbed "Aida" - will be launched and completed near the capital Muscat, on a hillside adjacent to the Gulf of Oman, and will reportedly include 3,500 new homes and two hotels comprising 450 rooms, luxury retail destinations, as well as a golf course.
The financial details of the agreement are not yet disclosed and designs for the development are not yet released.
The German agent, thinker of Ukrainian “integral nationalism” and criminal against humanity, Dmytro Dontsov (Metipol 1883, Montreal 1973).
Like most Western political analysts and commentators, I was unaware of the existence of Ukrainian neo-Nazis until 2014. When the president-elect was overthrown, I was living in Syria at the time and thought they were violent groupings that had burst onto the public scene to assist pro-European elements. However, since the Russian military intervention, I have gradually discovered a lot of documents and information on this political movement which, in 2021, represented one third of the Ukrainian armed forces. This article presents a synthesis of it.
At the very beginning of this story, that is to say before the First World War, Ukraine was a large plain which had always been tossed between German and Russian influences. At the time, it was not an independent state, but a province of the tsarist empire. It was populated by Germans, Bulgarians, Greeks, Poles, Rumanians, Russians, Czechs, Tatars and a very large Jewish minority supposedly descended from the ancient Khazar people.
A young poet, Dmytro Dontsov, was fascinated by the avant-garde artistic movements, believing that they would help his country to escape from its social backwardness. Since the Tsarist Empire had been immobile since the death of Catherine the Great, while the German Empire was the scientific center of the West, Dontsov chose Berlin over Moscow.
