14 years ago, the Obama administration (or rather his Wall Street lackey Steve Rattner) turned the bankruptcy process on its head with the Chapter 11 filing of General Motors, which steamrolled the bankruptcy liquidation waterfall by paying off the underfunded (and unsecured) pension plans of GM and Chrysler union workers at 40 cents on the dollar, while  cramming down secured creditors, forcing them to accept 29 cents on the dollar in recovery.

On Sunday, something similar happened with Credit Suisse when, much to the shock of Europe's $275 billion Additional Tier 1 market, some $17BN in Credit Suisse AT1, aka Contingent Convertible, bonds were wiped out even as equity holders received over $3 billion in consideration from UBS courtesy of Swiss taxpayers who ended up footing billions in contingent liabilities.

Not surprisingly, this morning the entire universe of riskiest bonds of European lenders - those in the AT1 tier - plunged after UBS agreed to buy the bank in a historic, government-enforced deal aimed at containing a crisis of confidence that had started to spread across global financial markets. It was the biggest loss yet for Europe’s AT1 market, which was created after the financial crisis to ensure losses would be borne by investors not taxpayers.

There’s absolutely no doubt that our financial system is in flux right now. We’re watching a storm approach, and it’s about to envelop the entire nation in chaotic conditions. If you think things are crazy now, just hang on to your halo…it’s about to get a whole lot worse.

I’m sure this, too, will be called a conspiracy theory, but the Federal Reserve is launching FedNow, an instant digital payment system. This in itself is not a Central Bank Digital Currency, but it puts into place the framework needed to make the idea a reality.

FedNow will be launched in July, according to a press release from the Federal Reserve.

Update (1400ET): French President Emmanuel Macron’s government narrowly survived a no-confidence vote in the National Assembly on Monday, fending off an effort to kill his contentious pension overhaul and topple his administration.

As The Wall Street Journal reports, the no-confidence motion spearheaded by a group of centrists won the support of 278 lawmakers in the lower house of parliament, a mere nine votes short of a majority.

Lawmakers are expected to vote later Monday on a second no-confidence motion filed by Marine Le Pen’s National Rally.

That measure is unlikely to pass because conservative and left-leaning lawmakers have said they won’t back a no-confidence motion put forward by the far-right party.

European Union (EU) ministers have agreed on a two-billion-euro ($2.14bn) plan to raid their own arsenals and jointly purchase ammunition for Ukraine.

EU defence and foreign ministers backed an initiative aimed at providing Ukraine with one million artillery shells in the next 12 months as well as replenishing EU stocks during a meeting held in Brussels on Monday.

Escalation and internationalization may be very close to happening in the Ukrainian conflict. In a controversial and irresponsible statement, a leading Polish diplomat announced that his country may send troops to the battlefield if Kiev fails to prevent a Russian victory. The official’s words sound like a frontal threat and could have drastic consequences, considering that such a scenario would represent a direct confrontation between Russia and a NATO country – it just remains to be seen whether the Atlantic alliance would be concerned with defending its Eastern European proxies.

The threat was made by Poland’s ambassador to France, Jan Emeryk Rosciszewski, on March 18, during an interview with the French media. Rosciszewski accused Moscow of being solely responsible for the hostilities, echoing the Western hegemonic narrative. According to him, no NATO country is to blame for the fact that the conflict is prolonging, if not the Russian government itself, which would be deliberately increasing international tensions. As expected, however, he did not show any evidence to support his narrative.

The main problem is that Rosciszewski did not limit himself to accusing Moscow of being the “wrong side” of the conflict, but also said that Poland may be “forced” to send troops to Ukraine. For Rosciszewski, Russian victory is unacceptable as it would represent the end of the “values” that form the basis of the European civilization.

President Joe Biden has contradicted his son Hunter's admission that the family business received payments from China in 2017.

“That’s not true,” Biden told reporters on Friday when asked about the recent revelations that the family’s bank accounts were enriched with funds from the communist country.

Despite Joe Biden’s denial, Hunter acknowledged on Thursday that the Biden family business did, in fact, accept Chinese money in 2017. Hunter not only confirmed that the Biden family business received funds from China but also noted that he, along with his uncle James and his then-partner Hallie, received a collective $1.3 million. According to Hunter's spokesperson, “Hunter received his portion of good faith seed funds which he shared with his uncle, James Biden, and Hallie Biden, with whom he was involved at the time, and sharing expenses.”

Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki criticized the Republican Party's use of the term "woke" in the debut episode of her MSNBC show, "Inside with Jen Psaki," on Sunday.

In a tweet announcing the show, she wrote she had "a few things to get off my chest about the GOP war on wokewokeism.".

During the show, Psaki argued that the term "woke" does not carry the same meaning for most people as it does for Republicans. "For Republicans, wokeness is Public Enemy number one," she said. Well, the 2024 election is still over a year away, but it’s already getting hot. Over the weekend, Donald Trump revealed that the partisan Democrats running Manhattan’s DA office are planning on arresting him. According to reports, they plan to indict him over seemingly debunk claims related to his former lawyer Michael Cohen and Stormy Daniels.

Republicans, even those not backing Trump, were shocked at the revelation. It seems the DA office is being driven purely by political ambitions. Many are already saying Trump is innocent of their charges. And now, the most powerful man in the House of Representatives is firing a warning shot.

 Based on the combination bail-in / bail-out that just took place on an emergency basis in Switzerland yesterday, we now know that the entire western financial system is a grand con. They will change the rules at any moment and steal your money, just like they did to Russia in 2022 by seizing $300+ billion in Russian deposits held at western central banks. Yesterday, as part of the panicked, illegal bailing out of Credit Suisse, they wiped out US$17 billion in AT1 (tier-1) bonds, leaving the bond holders high and dry.

As CNBC reports, “The $17 billion wipeout of Credit Suisse bondholders has not gone down well in Europe.”

One section of Credit Suisse’s bondholders is set to be wiped out following the struggling bank’s takeover by UBS, causing them to see investments worth 16 billion Swiss francs ($17 billion) become worthless. The Swiss regulator FINMA announced Sunday that the so-called additional tier-one bonds, which are widely regarded as relatively risky investments, will be written to zero as part of the deal.

Highly hazardous PFAS, or per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances, are leaching out of plastic containers and contaminating food products, according to research published in Environmental Science & Technology Letters this month.

The data confirm the results of prior research focused on the propensity of PFAS to contaminate various pesticide products through storage containers.

That data led the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to issue a warning over the potential for direct PFAS contamination of food.

The current study, conducted by scientists at Notre Dame University, confirms these worst fears and shows that the containers of commonly used products like ketchup and mayonnaise are leaching out levels that post a threat to human health.

With any credible evidence of alleged Russian mass kidnappings of children from former Ukraine sorely lacking, in order to justify this propaganda narrative, as well as give at least some ostensible “credence” to the recent ICC indictment against Russian President Vladimir Putin, the mainstream propaganda machine is mobilizing all of its forces. Supposed “horror stories” of the “ordeal” these kids and their parents “have to go through” are aiming to cause an emotional reaction and present Russia and its leadership as “monstrous” as they could possibly be. One such “horror story” was published by The Guardian on March 19, just two days after the Hague-based “court” issued an arrest warrant for Putin and Maria Alekseyevna Lvova-Belova, Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights.

According to The Guardian, Yevhen Mezhevyi, a 40-year-old Ukrainian citizen now living in Riga (Latvia), claims his children were “abducted and forcibly transferred” to Russia last year. Mezhevyi’s children were apparently taken while he was serving prison time in the DNR (Donetsk People’s Republic) due to his three-year service in the Kiev regime forces (2016-2019), including in the notorious Yavoriv military base in the west of the country, infamous for the training of various openly Neo-Nazi units. According to his own admission, Yevhen Mezhevyi knew that the Russian military would be apprehending all former and current members of such Nazi-inspired cohorts, so he tried to hide his past and even threw away his uniforms in an attempt to leave no trace of his time in the Kiev regime forces.

However, despite his attempts to hide, Mezhevyi was caught and sent to a prison near the town of Olenovka, approximately 20 km southwest of Donetsk, where he remained for 45 days. He claims that after Russian forces entered the city, Mezhevyi, his son Matvii (13) and daughters Sviatoslava (9) and Oleksandra (7) were “taken” by Russian soldiers and evacuated to Vinogradnoye, a village to the south-east of Mariupol. There, humanitarian volunteers offered assistance to Mezhevyi and his family, so they “stayed there for a while” (Yevhen didn’t specify for how long). “… but then, one day, after we were taken to a checkpoint and searched, a Russian official saw something in my documents,” he lamented, obviously referring to the fact that the official found evidence of Mezhevyi’s time in the Neo-Nazi junta forces.

Preventing another pandemic like Covid-19 requires setting up a planetary response network of “firefighters,” led by the World Health Organization, billionaire Bill Gates has argued. He added that recognized experts and national public health officials should lead this effort.

“We need to prepare to fight disease outbreaks just as we prepare to fight fires,” Gates wrote in a  New York Times opinion piecepublished on Sunday. This means “a well-funded system that is ready to spring into action at a moment’s notice when danger emerges.”

He endorsed the WHO’s effort to create a network of “top health emergency leaders,”called the Global Health Emergency Corps. This “corps of professionals from every country and region” needs to be well-funded and able to deploy in response to “transnational threats,” Gates wrote. 

Gov. Greg Abbott is calling for a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison for criminals carrying guns illegally after San Antonio Police Department officers arrested individuals for taking over streets in the city.

San Antonio Police Chief Bill McManus tweeted Sunday that on Saturday night, “street racers showed up in San Antonio. However, they didn’t all leave, and some left without all the property they came with.”

His officers, working with Texas DPS troopers, he said, made multiple arrests, seized multiple firearms, and impounded vehicles, including one that was stolen.

The Hunter Biden investigation reached a new level in recent days after lawmakers announced that millions of dollars were transferred from a Chinese energy company with much of it ending up in the hands of the Biden family and associates.

Now, critics say the Hunter Biden scandal could jeopardize the president’s reelection hopes.

The reality of Joe Biden the president has been anything but, especially as the saga of Biden Inc. continues to unfold in real time. It’s beyond clear at this point that the questions cannot simply be dismissed as fake news or politically motivated.”
