Thought for the day
"Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness have given way to permanent crisis management: to policing the planet and fighting preventative wars of ideological containment, usually on terrain chosen by, and favorable to, our enemies. Limited government and constitutional accountability have been shouldered aside by the kind of imperial presidency our constitutional system was explicitly designed to prevent." -- David C. Unger, The Emergency State: America’s Pursuit of Absolute Security at All Costs
So apparently the idea of EVs providing a problem-free and pollution-free utopia where everybody lives in total harmony and there are no problems isn't quite the reality of the situation.
The reality in California, as the Wall Street Journal wrote about this week, is actually that EV charging is putting stress onto an aging grid and forcing the state to think about ways to generate more power.
The state's plan to end gas powered vehicles by 2035 means that power needs in the state are going to increase. Meanwhile, as California's grid has already been stressed this year, the state has been asking citizens to be mindful of when they charge their EVs - and even when they use their major appliances.
US regulators on Friday said they would withdraw all remaining portions of the interim registration review decision for the weed killer glyphosate.
The move comes after the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued an opinion saying the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) had violated the law in its assessment of glyphosate, which is the world’s most widely used weed killer and the active ingredient in Roundup and numerous other herbicide products.
The court found that EPA had ignored important studies in its human health safety assessment of the chemical and had also violated the Endangered Species Act. The EPA’s withdrawal comes before an October 1 deadline under which the agency was supposed to have completed its assessment. EPA had asked the court to extend its deadline but the court denied the request.
In its June 17 opinion, the 9th circuit said the agency’s 2020 assessment of glyphosate, the active ingredient in the herbicide Roundup, was flawed in many ways. The federal appeals court ruled that EPA failed to follow established guidelines for determining cancer risk, ignored important studies, and discounted expert advice from a scientific advisory panel. The EPA applied “inconsistent reasoning” in finding that the chemical does not pose “any reasonable risk to man or the environment,” the panel determined.

A group of Oath Keepers, including leader Stewart Rhodes, will be forced to go to trial prematurely this week after numerous attempts by their attorneys to push their trial until January and outside of Washington DC.
The presiding Judge Amit Mehta denied their motions for Change of Venue and Continuance.
This is what they have been waiting for – a seditious conspiracy conviction to “prove” January 6th was an “insurrection” and tie it all to Trump – to prevent him from running again and even to possible use to arrest him.
“It is clear the DOJ is trying to politicize this trial and illegally sway the midterm elections,” said Tina Ryan of Citizens Against Political Persecution. “They will do anything in their power to make sure this trial happens and there are guilty convictions for the innocent.”
The Oath Keeper’s infamous “crime” of walking in “stack formation” through the Capitol, a military safety tactic they learned in war fighting for this country. They are now being charged with conspiracy for using a technique that they were taught by the government as soldiers.
With the trial only days away, attorneys told us that the government has not yet met their obligation to release all discovery to the legal team in a timely manner and they were still receiving documents as late as last week. We were informed that two key defense witnesses were arrested to prevent them from testifying. Also, new survey results were submitted to the court by attorneys in a last minute attempt to change venue to another city. The survey illustrates an incredibly biased jury pool in Washington DC with 68% of the respondents holding an “Unfavorable View of the Oath Keepers”, while the other Test Areas range from 36% – 46%. See the survey below:
Tagesspiegel newspaper reports that a sudden loss of pressure in three natural gas pipelines between Russia and Germany is likely to have been a “targeted attack” carried out by either Russia or Ukraine.
Pressure in the Nord Stream 2 undersea gas pipeline dropped from 300 to 7 bars on Sunday night, followed by a similar occurrence in Nord Stream 1’s on Monday afternoon.
The sudden drop of pressure in the Nord Stream 2 pipeline may also have caused a gas leak near the island of Bornholm in the Baltic Sea, a situation being monitored by Danish authorities.
An anonymous source told Tagesspiegel that German authorities “can’t imagine a scenario that isn’t a targeted attack,” and that their assessment has concluded, “Everything speaks against a coincidence.”

Vaccination is a cornerstone in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the initial messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine clinical trials excluded several vulnerable groups, including young children and lactating individuals.1 The US Food and Drug Administration deferred the decision to authorize COVID-19 mRNA vaccines for infants younger than 6 months until more data are available because of the potential priming of the children’s immune responses that may alter their immunity.2 The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends offering the COVID-19 mRNA vaccines to breastfeeding individuals,3 although the possible passage of vaccine mRNAs in breast milk resulting in infants’ exposure at younger than 6 months was not investigated. This study investigated whether the COVID-19 vaccine mRNA can be detected in the expressed breast milk (EBM) of lactating individuals receiving the vaccination within 6 months after delivery.
A government shutdown is becoming a real possibility. Congress has less than a week to come to an agreement on government funding as the funding will expire this Friday at midnight.
Lawmakers released a short-term stopgap bill that would keep the government funded until December 16. The Senate is expected to hold a procedural vote on Tuesday Night.
Senator Joe Manchin is reserving support for any democrat-led funding measure unless it includes oil and natural gas permitting reforms. Several Republican Senators are opposed to Joe Manchin’s energy plans being included in the stop-gap bill.
New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is the latest liberal leader to call for an international alliance to censor speech. Unsatisfied with the unprecedented corporate censorship of social media companies, leaders like Hillary Clinton have turned from private censorship to good old-fashioned state censorship. Speech regulation has become an article of faith on the left. Ardern used her speech this week to the United Nations General Assembly to call for censorship on a global scale.
Ardern lashed out at “disinformation” and called for a global coalition to control speech. After nodding toward free speech, she proceeded to lay out a plan for its demise through government regulation:
But what if that lie, told repeatedly, and across many platforms, prompts, inspires, or motivates others to take up arms. To threaten the security of others. To turn a blind eye to atrocities, or worse, to become complicit in them. What then?
This is no longer a hypothetical. The weapons of war have changed, they are upon us and require the same level of action and activity that we put into the weapons of old.
We recognized the threats that the old weapons created. We came together as communities to minimize these threats. We created international rules, norms and expectations. We never saw that as a threat to our individual liberties – rather, it was a preservation of them. The same must apply now as we take on these new challenges.

Did the CIA just sabotage the Nord Stream 2 and Nord Stream 1 pipelines?
UPDATE: Reuters reported Monday night that Nord Stream 1 was also experiencing an unexplained pressure drop.
From Reuters, "Nord Stream AG operator says looking into decline in pressure in Nord Stream 1":
Nord Stream AG, the operator of the Nord Stream 1 undersea gas pipeline from Russia to Germany, said Monday it was looking into causes of a drop in pressure in the pipeline.
"Tonight, dispatchers from the Nord Stream 1 control centre recorded a pressure drop on both branches of the gas pipeline," it said in a statement. "The reasons are being clarified."
The odds this was the result of a deliberate attack are going through the roof.
Perhaps in response to the threat of growing populist sentiment forging a political apparatus to challenge the iron-fisted grip of tin pot dictator Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Canada has declared it will end its policy requiring travelers into the country to provide their vaccine passports. The program, dubbed ArriveCAN, long-required non-citizen visitors to the nation to provide their vaccine status.
On top of scrapping that requirement, the Canadian government will also no longer mandate that visitors must provide a negative test and self-report any potential symptoms of COVID-19 upon entry as well as the enforcement of previously existing quarantine protocols. The scope of the pivot in policy extends beyond air travel and also applies to visitors entering Canada by automobile or cruise ship. These changes will take effect on September 30th, when the cabinet order enforcing the requirements will expire. The Trudeau government attested to this by ensuring that it will not seek the order's renewal.
The extent of the authoritarian dictate that Canada held on to for so long is adequately illustrated by the cessation of another measure implemented by the Public Health Agency of Canada. Previously, travelers were subject to health checks when aboard air and rail lines. That Gestapo-style tactic conveys the tyrannical state of post-COVID Canada, where everything from taxing the unvaccinated to limiting residents free ability to travel domestically was utilized at the hands of Trudeau's government.
Despite the optics, the technocratic bureaucracy of Canada continues to churn out each company line is can to promote the vaccination. “We are able to do this because tens of millions of Canadians rolled up their sleeves and got vaccinated,” Transport Minister Omar Alghabra said. Of course, non-resident travelers to Canada are by definition not Canadian. Although the minister's comments can imply that the prophylactic effect of the vaccines mitigates the risk of transmission from the unvaccinating entering the country, that premise is another of many logical inconsistencies rife among the rationalizations which aren't rooted in any objective reality.
Although the Canadian government's remarks regard other motives, voiding ArriveCAN comes in the wake of a political fallout which has led to the foundation of Prime Minister Trudeau's support to start cracking at the seams. The outrage against the platform of Canada's Liberal Party has certainly begun to manifest in a populist movement intent on usurping leadership of the country from Trudeau. This Harper-esque renaissance may be countered by the Liberal Party if Trudeau calls for a snap election as a means of stopping the momentum his opposition has gained.

A clip of Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes was shown to a Congressional committee investigating the 6 Jan attack
Members of the Oath Keepers, a far-right militia group, will go on trial after jury selection begins on Tuesday in one of the most high-profile cases stemming from the 6 January 2021 attack on the US Capitol.
Among those being tried is the group's leader, Stewart Rhodes, who is charged, along with four others, with seditious conspiracy - plotting to oppose the transfer of presidential power. They have pleaded not guilty.
The trial in Washington could be the most significant 6 January case yet, given the seriousness of the charges and the potential to answer a key question: to what extent was the storming of the US Capitol planned in advance?
