“Democracy extends the sphere of individual freedom, socialism restricts it. Democracy attaches all possible value to each man; socialism makes each man a mere agent, a mere number. Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word: equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude.” -- Alexis de Tocqueville

President Joe Biden claimed during his "big boy" NATO press conference Thursday that border crossings are lower now than when former President Donald Trump left office. However, data reveals this assertion to be false, with higher numbers of illegal immigrant encounters reported under Biden's administration.

Grocery inflation is slowing, and the companies that make the food are starting to sweat.

As part of their quarterly earnings reports Thursday, snack powerhouses PepsiCo and Conagra Brands reported lower revenue and unit sales, pointing to cost-conscious consumers pushing back on prices. And government data reflects the trend: the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that food prices rose only slightly last month.

“We’re seeing consumers be very price sensitive,” said Bobby Gibbs, a partner in the retail and consumer goods division of the marketing consulting firm Oliver Wyman. “Consumers are cherry picking promotional prices more and retailers are putting out more promotional pricing than they have in the last few years.”

In the past three years China has accelerated export agreements and industrial operations in Africa, becoming the continent's largest bilateral trade partner. Given Africa's complete lack of development and GDP, the Asian rush to cement economic ties might seem strange. However, I would argue that China is adapting to events that haven't quite happened yet. I'm referring to a major global shift away from interdependent markets (i.e. traditional globalism) into a chaotic period of trade protectionism. I'm talking about the end of the current model of export-based nations supplying goods to the west in exchange for advantageous trade deficits and access to dollars. This will be the era of what I would call the “Great Resource Grab.”

Elon Musk posted on Friday in response to accusations from the European Commission, saying that the EU body offered X an illegal secret deal promising not to fine the company if it censored speech on the platform. A report from the Commission accused X of deceiving users with "verified accounts” that have the “Blue checkmark," a change that took place when Musk bought up the platform. It also took issue with public data on the platform not being shared with “researchers."

In response to the report from the Commission, Musk posted, "The European Commission offered X an illegal secret deal: if we quietly censored speech without telling anyone, they would not fine us. The other platforms accepted that deal. X did not."

Raheem Kassam, Editor-in-Chief of The National Pulse, believes Joe Biden’s death could prove to be the ‘October Surprise’ in the U.S. election, even if the so-called “Clinton diaspora” has to “make it happen.”

Citing an Axios report that quotes a Bill Clinton administration official as saying the “Clinton diaspora is freaking the hell out” about Biden’s reelection prospects, Kassam referred his social media followers to a podcast from Thursday where he raised the possibility of the 81-year-old dying.

“You had a snap election in the UK, and you had a snap election in France,” Kassam said on the podcast. “There’s a globalist theme for 2024. I just would not be surprised—do not put it past them—to watch Joe Biden die on his feet in front of the American public. Maybe not literally, but literally to pass away, a week, two weeks, three weeks before an election, and then, boom, it’s a snap election, it’s a snap candidate.”

In these circumstances, Kassam said, the Democrats could strongly benefit from a “sympathy vote.”

A “coordinated Democrat rebellion” will be underway over the next 48 hours as the largest pro-Biden super PAC freezes $90 million in pledged donations if Biden remains on the ticket, according to The New York Times.

This comes after Joe Biden’s disastrous “Big Boy” solo press conference Thursday evening where he called Kamala Harris “Vice President Trump.”

“Some major Democratic donors have told the largest pro-Biden super PAC, Future Forward, that roughly $90 million in pledged donations is now on hold if President Biden remains atop the ticket, according to two people who have been briefed on the conversations,” The New York Times reported.

Webmaster addition: Talk about a rock and a hard place! As reported below, Biden cannot legally transfer his campaign funds to another candidate until he is the official Democratic nominee, which won't happen until the Democratic convention next month!

South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) announced on Thursday that it will become the first country in the world to deploy anti-drone laser weapons.

The laser system dubbed the “StarWars” project, will counter North Korean drone incursions into its airspace.

Once active, the strategy, developed by Hanwha Aerospace (Hanwha), will cost around $1.45 (2,000 won) per shot. In a move called “game-changing,” the new defense systems will be silent and deadly for enemy drones.

Apple has issued a new round of threat notifications to iPhone users across 98 countries, warning them of potential mercenary spyware attacks. It’s the second such alert campaign from the company this year, following a similar notification sent to users in 92 nations in April.

Since 2021, Apple has been regularly sending these notifications, reaching users in over 150 countries, according to a support document on the company’s website. The latest warnings, out Wednesday, did not disclose the attackers’ identities or the countries where users received notifications.

“Apple detected that you are being targeted by a mercenary spyware attack that is trying to remotely compromise the iPhone associated with your Apple ID -xxx-,” the company wrote in the warning to affected customers.

“This attack is likely targeting you specifically because of who you are or what you do. Although it’s never possible to achieve absolute certainty when detecting such attacks, Apple has high confidence in this warning — please take it seriously,” Apple added in the text.

So asks the Wall Street Journal, in an uncharacteristically gloomy article for the bull market's paper of record.

They kick off with the problem: America is "cruising" into an uncharted sea of federal debt, with a government seemingly incapable of turning it around. In other words, the uniparty has set its course, and there's no cavalry coming.

The Runaway Train of Deficits

We're currently adding a fresh trillion of debt every hundred days, on our way to $35 trillion.

Meanwhile, the deficit is about to break $2 trillion – for perspective, all federal revenue under George W Bush averaged around $2 trillion.

Debt interest *alone is set to cross $1 trillion, eclipsing even our bloated military budget that beaches quarter-billion dollar piers in Gaza for sport.

The next milestone after that is Medicare spending, which together with Social Security has its own $78 trillion unfunded liability, according to its own Board of Trustees – outside estimates are higher.

Governments Are Rabid by Nature

Now, none of this is shocking: governments by nature try to spend too much – indeed, much of economic history is made up of governments desperately trying to finance their mountains of debt.

Debt brought down Rome, first with hyperinflation then with a gutted military that barbarians walked right over.

It brought down Spain, as New World gold finances an effective government takeover of the private sector. And France, bankrupted by financing foreign wars – in this case, the American Revolution. The Qing collapsed under debt and even Great Britain who owned half the earth for nearly a hundred years.

It's why we got the Magna Carta – indeed, Constitutions – as kings pleaded for more money. It's how we got central banks, as first Britain then the rest of the world licensed money printers in exchange for debt finance.

To this day government debt crashes countries – countries from Turkey to Venezuela to Nigeria are currently undergoing debt crises, with Argentina desperately trying to pull out of one.

How Does It End?

And, with so many historical cases, we know exactly how this ends: investors stop buying government debt, shutting out governments and leading to massive austerity and soaring inflation as the government retrenches.

The Wall Street Journal comments on The Tight-Lipped Approach to Biden’s Health Disclosures

An opaque picture of President Biden’s health has emerged since his disastrous debate performance as a result of shifting accounts of his medical care by the White House and the president’s own refusal to undergo more testing.

How did they let it get this far? How did Democratic power brokers and progressive media personalities—groups not known for their indifference to winning elections—wait until July 2024 to urge President Biden not to run for re-election?

Any mildly observant person could see four years ago that Mr. Biden had declined further than a commander in chief should. These pages noted Mr. Biden’s diminished state during and after his 2020 campaign. In the 2012 debate with Paul Ryan, the editorial board remarked on Nov. 19, 2020, Mr. Biden “was aggressive and confident. In 2020, in the rare times he speaks off the cuff without a teleprompter, he looks more tentative, as if grasping for an argument or words that he knows are round here somewhere.”

The coverups have finally taken a toll. People now see the truth: They’ve been lied to for years by the president and a Press willing to lie for him.

The Lie Is Disclosed

One cannot put a disclosed lie back in the bottle.

The press has been forced to admit Biden’s This lie, and now they are in a race to protect their own reputations.

As a result, the Left-wing media is now in competition to unsweep the dirt it swept under the rug out of fear of losing more readership.

We don’t know the total number of non-citizens who are on Florida voter rolls because some of these categories are not mutually exclusive and may overlap, but number potentially exceeds 2 million.

What’s even more frightening is that the number of non-citizens is increasing.

If this number of illegals is voting in the 2024 election, it could easily change the direction and results in the election.  These individuals can easily be removed from the voter rolls because many are easily identifiable in the data maintained by the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

As President Joe Biden tries to talk with Democratic lawmakers and relieve their concerns, a virtual meeting with members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus on Friday appears to have caused more problems than it solved.

For starters, Biden showed up an hour late to the Zoom call, according to a source familiar with the meeting, and it didn’t get much better from there.

Organizers of the Zoom meeting had said only two members were allowed to ask questions — Reps. Sylvia Garcia and Lou Correa — but Biden opened the floor up to more questions, the source familiar with the call told NOTUS. At least the president tried to open up the meeting to more questions.

The source said the campaign tightly controlled who could ask a question on the call. Reps. Gabe Vasquez and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez both used the “raise hand” feature on the Zoom call, and both had their hands lowered by organizers of the call and were not allowed to speak, the source said.

Joe Biden's verbal abilities have 'unraveled' so sharply that one of America's top linguists has likened the president's current speech to Pidgin English.

Biden committed two major flubs in Washington Thursday alone – accidentally calling Volodymyr Zelensky 'President Putin' and referring to Kamala Harris during his high-wire press conference as 'Vice President Trump.'

And these quick slips (Biden corrected the first one but not the second) are forming part of a worrying and fast-declining problem, it has been claimed.

New York Times columnist and Columbia University linguist John McWhorter says the 81 year-old president's garbled speech reminds him of pidgin -  a mix of two or more languages.

Following Wednesday’s unsuccessful coup, observers have raised suspicion that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) was part of the master plan. Users on X, formerly known as Twitter, speculated that the coup attempt was secretly backed by the CIA, either because of Bolivia’s vast supplies of lithium, in retaliation for its closeness to Russia or its hostility to Israel. One X user said: “This is the second CIA-backed coup plot against the Bolivian state in under five years. Bolivia has 21 million tons of lithium reserves, the largest on the planet. Bolivia also cut off all relations with Israel in condemnation of the genocide in Gaza. Coincidence? I think not.” A comment that seemed to refer to the U.S. from Puerto Rican communist “Combate” said: “They own Argentina. They own Chile. They’re going after Bolivia.”

Authored by Michael Snyder via TheMostImportantNews.com,

The tremendous suffering that we are seeing all over the world right now is only just the beginning.  As I have documented repeatedly, we are in the midst of the worst global food crisis in modern history, and we haven’t seen this many countries engaged in military conflict since World War IIIn other words, this is a time of famine, and it is a time of war.  This represents a major problem for those that believe that humans are intrinsically good and that humanity is moving into a new golden era of peace and prosperity.  If humans are intrinsically good, why is there so much evil all around us?  Of course the truth is that the evil that we see all around is the product of the evil in human hearts.  Humanity is the reason why there is so much war, so much famine, so much greed, so much corruption, and so much suffering.

While billionaires in the western world live the high life, vast hordes of people on the other side of the planet are literally starving to death. In Sudan, right now more than 25 million people “are facing high levels of acute food insecurity”

In addition to the threat of violence, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification reported that 25.6 million people in Sudan are facing high levels of acute food insecurity, and 8.5 million people are facing emergency food shortages. The IPC also warned about the risk of famine across 14 areas, impacting residents and refugees in areas like Greater Darfur and Greater Kordofan.

There have been some nightmarish famines in Sudan before, but this is the worst.

The CEO of World Vision, Edgar Sandoval, says that people in Sudan are literally fighting over anthills because it is the only source of food available in some cases…

Doug Casey: Government never controls itself. It only attempts to control its subjects. I expect the rest of this decade will resemble the 1970s as far as retail price rises are concerned, but it will be much more serious. As a result, the chances of wage and price controls are high.

We need to only look at the actions of Richard Nixon, who often put himself forward as being pro-business and pro-capital. In 1971, he put on very strict wage and price controls. But wage and price controls didn’t begin and they certainly won’t end with Nixon. The idea that government should control its subjects is part of the national DNA. As the Baby Bush put it in 2008, “sometimes you have to abandon free-market principles to save the free-market system.” His statement reminds me of the famous quote from the Vietnam era: “We had to destroy the village in order to save it.”

The government’s share of the economy is much larger now than it was in Nixon’s day. And the people in government are much more left-wing than they were during the Nixon regime 50 years ago. If the Democrats are reelected in November—which I expect, despite Trump’s current lead—you can expect them to further centralize power towards Washington.

Government, as an institution, is congenitally incapable of learning anything. The first example of wage and price controls was under the emperor Diocletian in late Third Century Rome, when he attempted to regulate the price of every good and service, from the largest to the smallest. It turned the Empire into a veritable police state.

The Biden White House has ignored calls for Joe to step down. Apparently, Biden’s family is forcing him to stay in the race. This comes after many claim Biden’s cognitive decline has left him too impaired to run for reelection. Yet Biden is entrenched. Like every good dictator, he is defying the will of the people to hold onto power.

This week, he held a solo press conference to convince America that he’s fine. While it was a better performance than at the debate, he did not in any way banish fear that he’s too old to be president. In fact, he made one flub that had everyone cringing.

Authored by Aaron Gifford via The Epoch Times,

New research indicates that U.S. public school spending has doubled since 2003, outpacing the rate of inflation and showing no clear correlation between more dollars per pupil and higher eighth-grade math and fourth-grade reading scores.

The Edunomics Lab at Georgetown University released its latest findings last month. The report, titled “Will Academic Recovery Stall When the Federal Relief Funds Dry Up?”  also draws attention to the fiscal cliff many districts face in the year ahead as they weigh expenditures against desired achievement.School districts are required to earmark whatever is left of their post-COVID American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds by Sept. 30. The liquidation deadline is Dec. 31. ESSER, established in 2021, allocated $122 billion over three phases to help schools with learning recovery efforts.

Most of the ESSER money was spent on labor—more teachers, classroom aids, counselors, reading coaches, tutors, subject area specialists, and administrators, but it was not applied to raise pay rates for existing teachers, Edunomics Lab Director Marguerite Roza told The Epoch Times on July 10.

While one device (laptop or tablet) per child became an industry standard largely funded by federal money, equipment purchases did not make up a significant portion of expenditures, Ms. Roza said. She and her team of researchers interviewed school administrators and analyzed data at the federal and state levels dating back 20 years, including information from the National Assessment of Educational Progress, which runs The Nation’s Report Card website. Many comparisons cited involved shorter time frames, and the findings were largely focused on the pandemic era.

Claire's Observations:  Remote learning, without dedicated parents who actually have the time to work with their kids on their lessons, does not work, period, end of discussion.

What is interesting to me, here in southern, and very rural, Indiana, is that the local public school teachers have found a way to combine remote work with classroom work, resulting in the reality that we have two kids in our extended family, an 11 year old, and a 14 year old, reading at adult grade level, which I think is wonderful outcome of the educational system here.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) has subpoenaed three key White House staffers who are allegedly shielding Joe Biden from media scrutiny and doing his job for him amid his cognitive difficulties.

“I am issuing subpoenas today for White House staff Annie Tomasini, Anthony Bernal, and Ashley Williams to appear for depositions,” Comer announced on X on Wednesday.

Williams is the Special Assistant to the President and Deputy director of Oval Office Operations,  Bernal, the Assistant to the President and Senior Advisor to the First Lady, and Tomasini, the Deputy Chief of Staff.

“The White House has shielded these three key aides from testifying about President Biden’s mishandling of classified documents and now we’ve learned through reporting these same aides are also seeking to cover up President Biden’s declining cognitive state inside the White House,” the Chairman added.

The Democrats are in total disarray. Biden’s press conference performance did nothing to quell nerves within the party. They’re stuck in a tough spot – Biden isn’t fit to lead, but they don’t have a viable Plan B. The party’s bigwigs are holding their breath, hoping against hope that Biden can pull it together. But let’s face it, it’s not happening.

Every day, more Congressional Democrats and liberal Hollywood stars defect from Biden’s campaign and are calling for him to resign. Even leaders like Pelosi and Schumer are making comments that seem to be pushing Joe toward the exit. But Biden remains defiant.

The Democrats’ refusal to face reality is astonishing. They keep saying Trump is the existential threat to democracy, but behind closed doors, they know Biden’s incompetence is the real danger.
