"For we are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies primarily on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence--on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice, on guerrillas by night instead of armies by day. It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly knit, highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations.

"Its preparations are concealed, not published. Its mistakes are buried, not headlined. Its dissenters are silenced, not praised. No expenditure is questioned, no rumor is printed, no secret is revealed. It conducts the Cold War, in short, with a war-time discipline no democracy would ever hope or wish to match." -- John F. Kennedy

The South Fork and nearby Salt wildfires have scorched more than a combined 23,000 acres of tribal and government lands surrounding the village of Ruidoso and the Mescalero Apache Reserve, and both remain at 0% containment. Some 1,400 structures have been burned, and several more remain threatened, officials said.

Are you ready for our daughters to go to war?  Democrats in Congress want to make it mandatory for young women to register with the Selective Service System when they turn 18 just like young men do.  Of course if a major war erupts and our politicians reinstitute a military draft, the draftees would come from those that have registered with the Selective Service System.  So if the Democrats get their way, we will be just one step away from young American women being forced to go to war.  But proponents of such a move argue that we need to do something because military recruitment has fallen to depressingly low levels, and they insist that there are many jobs that women could do away from the front lines during a major war.  So what do you think?  Do you believe that women should be drafted for the military?

The current economy is putting many businesses on the brink, and Costco is no exception. Execs seem deeply worried about the company's performance in recent months because sales have been weakening all across the board. Even though buying in bulk can save consumers’ money down the line, for many, shopping in big quantities isn't making financial sense anymore. Faced with higher bills in other categories, such as energy and housing, Americans are foregoing large purchases and preferring to take advantage of sales at traditional retail stores to manage their escalating monthly expenses. Rivals like Walmart, Amazon, Target, and Aldi are all offering discounts on thousands of products to improve their sales this summer. On the other hand, Costco never offers promotions to its customers, and people must pay membership fees to shop at its stores.

The clock is ticking on America’s most crucial safety nets. New projections reveal that the Social Security trust fund is now expected to become insolvent by 2035, just a year later than previously estimated. This brief reprieve hardly offers comfort when the stakes are so high. After 2035, retirees will face a stark reality: receiving only 83% of their full benefits unless Congress intervenes to address the shortfall.

Remember that time Joe Brandon said that you would need nuclear weapons to win a fight against the US government? It’s not a statement that was true at the time, and it has not aged well. The US government offered an unconditional surrender to the Taliban, men in flip-flops with AK-47s riding around in Toyota Hiluxes. Now, they’re in a basically unwinnable war with another group of men in flip-flops. You could just carpet bomb Yemen, widely, and that would not stop men in tunnels from releasing drones against you. This is a new era.

The study found 5,137 cases reported in the three years the Covid mRNA injections have been available. However, in the entire 34 years of data, there have only been 52 reports of cerebral thromboembolism associated with influenza vaccines. According to this data, there is an 1120 times increase in cerebral thromboembolism for Covid injections compared to flu shots per time. This makes for a whopping 111,795% increase.

If you thought mRNA was the first vaccine to cause cancer in humans, think again. Take a close look at what Dr. Salk really did when he developed his so-called "vaccine." Instead of using human tissues to grow the polio virus, he used rhesus macaque monkey kidneys. Then Salk used formaldehyde to deaden or "deactivate" it. After field trials where half-a-dozen kids were left with paralyzed arms from the vaccine, he declared it "safe and effective." Sound familiar?

Meta has identified another reason AI might produce rubbish output: Hardware faults that corrupt data. As noted in a paper emitted last week and a June 19 write-up, hardware faults can corrupt data. No prizes for Meta there – phenomena such as "bit flips" that see data values changed from zero to one are well known and have even been attributed to cosmic rays hitting memory or hard disks. Meta labels such "undetected" hardware faults – we'll assume they mean errors that aren't caught and dealt with on the fly – as "silent data corruptions" (SDCs). Its researchers suggest that when these kinds of faults occur in AI systems, they create "parameter corruption, where AI model parameters are corrupted and their original values are altered." That could result in inaccurate, weird, or just generally bad output.

The State Department said on Tuesday that it has green-lit a $360 million arms sale to Taipei, including hundreds of armed drones, missile equipment, and other support material. China views Taiwan as part of its territory, and while it prefers to reclaim the de facto independent island peacefully, it has not ruled out using force if its “red lines” are crossed.

The latest sale comprises 291 Altius-600M systems, which are drones, or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), armed with warheads. The State Department release notes 720 Switchblade drones, described as “extended-range loitering munitions,” are also included with the package.

The statement went on to claim that the sale “serves U.S. national, economic, and security interests by supporting the recipient’s continuing efforts to modernize its armed forces and to maintain a credible defensive capability.” Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te thanked Washington for the new hardware, insisting they will increase regional stability. “In the future, we will continue to strengthen Taiwan’s national defense strength, whether through … military purchases or our own efforts,” he said.
