Labour’s Paul Waugh has won back Rochdale from independent former Labour MP George Galloway, who had snatched it from the party at a recent by-election.

Workers Party of Great Britain leader Galloway secured around 11,508 votes, but Waugh, a former political journalist from the north-west town, secured more than 13,000 to win it back for Labour.

Labour had lost the seat amid a row over its stance on Gaza, with serial by-election fighter Galloway tapping pro-Palestine sentiment, before its by-election candidate then also saw his candidacy ditched by the party over his controversial comments about Israel.

July 4th is supposed to be celebrated as Independence Day in the United States. It commemorates the victory of Britain’s American colonies in declaring their Independence from British colonial rule and becoming a new nation no longer beholden to the King of England. Sadly, the people of the United States have largely forgotten their revolutionary roots. By the start of the 20th Century, the United States was in the process of becoming the very thing it rebelled against — a colonial empire. In the wake of World War II, noveau colonialism captured U.S. foreign policy, and the American politicians embarked on a seemingly endless series of overseas adventures that tried to protect European colonial interests or catered to the wishes of wealthy corporations. The war in Vietnam is an example of the former and the coups in Iran and Guatemala the latter.

I christened this blog SONAR21, which stands for Son of the New American Revolution 21st Century. I am a current member of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR). I have counted 28 of my ancestors who fought — all as members of a militia — in the War of Independence. I want to tell you the story of my 5th Great Grandfather, William Thomson and his brother Charles. They were born in Londonderry, Ireland — William in 1722 and Charles in 1729. Their mother, Elizabeth, had three other children. She died giving birth to their sister, Mary, in 1738. Their grief stricken father, John Thomson, loaded up his five boys (Mary was left behind in Ireland) on a boat and sailed for Philadelphia. They were seeking a new life in Colonial America.

Joe Biden is falling apart at the seams. Ever since the president’s disastrous trainwreck of a debate, Joe Biden’s cognitive decline has sped up tenfold. Every speech is littered with gaffes, he can’t seem to stay awake and he needs assistance to walk short distances. Sky News All Stars Megyn Kelly, Douglas Murray and James Macpherson take a look at Joe Biden’s latest humiliations and ask how much longer can the President keep this up.

Microsoft has started a new round of layoffs, making it the third time it’s made drastic job cuts this year.

Who has been affected?

It’s unknown how many employees have been affected by the recent job cuts, although it’s thought that the product and program management teams have been impacted the most.

The latest round of layoffs comes after Microsoft cut around 1,000 jobs across various departments–including Azure Cloud and Mixed-Reality teams–last month, and nearly 2,000 from its gaming division team, in January.

Why have they made these layoffs?

In Microsoft’s own words, they have made these “organizational and workforce adjustments” as part of a necessary and normal part of running a profitable business in such a turbulent economy.

Former President Donald Trump released a 4th of July message on Thursday, dropping the hammer on President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and special prosecutor Jack Smith.

Trump, who was widely viewed as the winner of the first presidential debate last week, has remained relatively quiet while Biden attempts to assure allies and voters that he has the mental and physical stamina to continue his re-election campaign. Trump released his 4th of July statement hours after a leaked video of the former president calling Biden an “old, broken down pile of crap” went viral on social media.

“Happy Fourth of July to all, including to our highly incapable ‘President,’ who uses Prosecutors to go after his Political Opponent, who choked like a dog during the Debate but tried to pretend it was ‘International Travel’ (only 12 days rest!) and, when that gig was up, he blamed it on a ‘cold.’ Therefore, why would anyone say he’s cognitively challenged?” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

President Joe Biden told Democrat governors this week that he needs to be sleeping more, working less, and needs to stop doing events at night after his embarrassing showing during last week’s presidential debate.

The New York Times reported that Biden acknowledged to the governors that he was having fatigue issues — a stark contradiction to White House staffers’ claims in recent days as they seek to quell forces from inside the party that are trying to push him out as polls show former President Donald Trump with a commanding lead over him and the overwhelming majority of voters believe that he is “too old” to be president.

Biden told the governors that he was staying in the race as he blamed his poor debate performance on trips that he took weeks prior to the debate.

Former President Donald Trump hammered President Joe Biden on Thursday, challenging him to another debate as the nation celebrates its 248th birthday.

The social media post from Trump comes as Democrats have been itching to dump Biden ever since his disastrous debate performance last week, but have so far been unable to do so.

“I have the answer to the Crooked Joe Biden Incompetence Puzzle — Let’s do another Debate, but this time, no holds barred — An all on discussion, with just the two of us on stage, talking about the future of our Country,” Trump said. “The ratings were massive for the First Debate, record setting, in fact, but this one, because of the format, would blow everything away!”

In a move that expectedly has some anti-gunners losing their minds, a group of Michigan legislators have proposed a bill that, if approved, would make the AR-15 Michigan's official state firearm. The move has sparked controversy, with some residents expressing concern about its potential impact on Michigan's image. However, the move is not unprecedented, as nearly a dozen other states have official guns.

House Bill 5792 is being spearheaded by State Representative Brian BeGole and cosponsored by 11 other Michigan House Republicans. Begole has 32 years in law enforcement, including six years as the sheriff of Shiawassee County. He argues that the AR-15 is unfairly stigmatized and emphasizes that many people use the platform for hobbies such as target shooting, self-defense, and exercising their Second Amendment rights.

“More and more often, AR-15 owners are ostracized and criticized for their perfectly reasonable and legal decisions to possess a firearm. That's just not right,” BeGole told News Channel 3 in Michigan.

A newly released report details the alleged financial motives behind the medical industry’s recent push for more “transgender” procedures, especially on children.

The over-80-page comprehensive report from the American Principles Project (APP) is titled “The Gender Industrial Complex.”

“According to some estimates, there are now over 1.6 million Americans who identify as transgender,” the APP wrote on its webpage highlighting the report.

The organization also noted that “demand for transition-related procedures—puberty-blocking drugs, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries—has increased significantly in recent years.”

The report found that “[t]otal revenues for transgender drugs and surgeries in 2023 were estimated to surpass $4.4 billion. And by 2030, the market is expected to grow beyond $7.8 billion.”

A pair of vulnerable Congressional Democrats vocally admitted this week that they believe President Joe Biden will lose reelection in November to former President Donald Trump.

Both Jared Golden, D-ME, and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, D-WA, cited Biden’s performance in last week’s presidential debate – which was widely panned by critics from across the political spectrum.

Golden and Gluesenkamp Perez both represent Republican-leaning districts that Trump won in 2020 by seven and four points respectively.

In a Tuesday op-ed published by The Bangor Daily News, Golden wrote that “Biden’s poor performance in the debate was not a surprise … because the outcome of this election has been clear to me for months.”

“While I don’t plan to vote for him,” the Maine lawmaker stated, “Donald Trump is going to win. And I’m OK with that.”

The Democratic-leaning corporate media, consisting of outlets like MSNBC and CNN, have been lying consistently and vociferously about Joe Biden’s mental acuity for years now. Despite the president’s obvious decline, the likes of Anderson Cooper, Joe Scarborough, Joy Reid and many others have claimed that video showing Biden’s cognitive failures were “cheap fakes” and that Biden remains “sharp as a tack.”

Payroll moves down (in new jobs) are looking a little less like head fakes (or just getting better at it) as they are down in June for the 4th month in a row. Before anyone makes too much of that, though, I’d point out that this still leaves them higher than they were from August through November of last year when inflation had just started its long trek back upward, unseen because it was buried in the numbers no one was looking at that were faithfully noted all along the way here as a force that would break out in open view for all to see this year. However, these numbers by ADP, the payroll processing company, have consistently been lower than the Biden-his-time administration numbers for nine of the last ten months. So, someone might be overstating the truth just a little to look good for the election.

Why $30,000 a year? Several reasons. One, it's a full-time wage at $15/hour, a rate that is (or will be) minimum wage in some states and two, it's about half of the median annual earnings of full-time workers in the US. In other words, it's within reach of most workers with a few years of experience. $30K a year is $2,500 a month. Average Social Security/Medicare and income tax withholding is around 22%, or $550 a month, leaving the wage earner $1,950 net income. Self-employed people have to pay the employers' share of Social Security/Medicare on top of the employees' half--an additional 7.65%, a total of 15.3%. (Yes, that's a big chunk. You get used to it. Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's.) That pushes their withholding closer to 30%, leaving around $1,750 to $1,800 a month income net of withholding.
