The tragicomic “insurrection” in Brasilia on Sunday was destined to meet a sudden death. The universal condemnation and, in particular,  the brusqueness with which the Biden Administration distanced itself from the protestors, sealed their fate. Certainly, this revolt is no  “colour revolution,” although it is difficult to make predictions about new protests in the country.

This is a cautionary tale for Latin America, as the “pink tide” is once again on the ascendance. As Brazil’s president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva returned to power last week, left-leaning leaders are in control of six of the region’s seven largest economies. Nonetheless, the pendulum has been swinging wildly and Lula won by a wafer-thin margin.

Political polarisation is undermining democracy in Latin America, making it harder for many to respect compromise. Since the 1980s, the global model of Keynesian policies gave way to the Washington consensus and the regional states took to borrowing in dollars and liberalising their capital accounts to attract foreign investors.

The genesis of the “pink tide” lies in these lost decades when the neoliberal turn in the region saw stagnation and widespread poverty, deepening social and economic divides in what was already the world’s most unequal region, emergence of a rentier class, coups and armed conflict. The region needs a new model of development and more equitable, sustainable growth involving state-led industrialisation and regional integration.

In a miserable travesty of justice which is actually no surprise in our decayed western civilization – or rather non-civilization, Julian Assange is about to be extradited to the United States from the UK’s most notorious Maximum-Security Prison, Belmarsh.

For what? He had originally been arrested for “raping” two women in Sweden. Pressed for the truth, the women admitted it was consensual sex, but “he didn’t wear a condom”. They were clearly coerced to accuse Julian Assange with rape. Because Washington wanted Sweden to extradite him.

But Assange escaped to the UK, where he found political asylum in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, under Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa, from 2012 to 2019. Correa’s successor, Lenin Moreno, under US pressure, kicked Assange out from the Ecuadorian embassy in London and under pressure from the US, he was immediately imprisoned in Belmarsh prison camp.

Sweden dropped the charges. But the real “criminals” the US of A, wanted him for high treason, because he disclosed in Wikileaks thousands and thousands of pieces of information divulging to the public high war crimes by the US in Iraq, Syria and elsewhere. War crimes that pale those judged by the 1947 Nuremberg trials. That’s why Julian Assange has to be punished. If indeed extradited, he faces a 273-year prison term (sic).

We live in a dystopian world. And most of us have no clue.

Julian Assange‘s father John Shipton announces from Australia in this interview with Berenice Galli, a novelty that could be decisive for his son’s destiny: “I feel that we will prevail and that Julian will be free. I feel it, I see it, I perceive it through the hundreds of contacts I have all over the world”.

Decisive — John Shipton underlines — is that “in Australia, we have the Prime Minister, the Council of Ministers, the Labor Party in government, 60 members of Parliament in support of Julian, as well as all the newspapers, trade unions, non-governmental organizations. Since Julian is an Australian citizen, the Australian Government is the only one who can speak for Julian in confrontation with the United States, because he is an Australian citizen. As a result, this global movement has focused on Australia and the Australian Government has raised grievances with the United States. In Australian TV news, international news director John Lyons said he had heard from his sources on his Cabinet that Julian will be unconditionally released within two months.

John declares that he has no faith in British justice, which has subjected Julian Assange to a “show trial, a political persecution” and that “the solution is not found in the law but in politics“. He then recalls that

“the circumstances have not improved since Professor Niels Melzer, the United Nations rapporteur on torture, presented in 2019 the exhaustive account of the visit he had made to Julian in Belmarsh prison together with two specialist doctors. In his statement, he wrote that Julian was suffering the effects of seven and a half years of psychological torture. Julian is allowed a ten-minute international phone call, and phone calls are granted to him using a certain credit: during the Christmas days we used everything he was allowed to, so I’ll have to wait a week or more to be able to talk again”.

Former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that Mohammad Ashraf Ghani stole the election just more effective than his competitor at stealing votes.

Pompeo added that Ghani was never asked to step down from power.

“He would think that I did, but I didn’t. I was incredibly frustrated with president Ghani, it took us to step in and finally get all the Afghans to the negotiating table. This was an effort that president Obama had tried to undertake even a little bit before that I just to get the conversations going and we ultimately achieved, and President Ghani was against that. He didn’t want to do that... He stole the election just more effective than his competitor at stealing votes,” Pompeo said.

Speaking at the Institute of Politics at the University of Chicago, Pompeo said that Ashraf Ghani, the former president of Afghanistan, was opposed to the talks between “the United States and the Taliban.”

Webmaster addition: Soooooo ... when a nation elects a leader the US government doesn't like, it just has to be election fraud ... but we must never question the honesty and trustworthiness of elections right here at home???

But she goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She is the champion and vindicator only of her own.

John Quincy Adams (Prescient man – he foresaw that slavery could be ended only by a presidential decree in a war and that destroying monsters abroad would destroy liberty at home.)

A lot of the people who comment on this blog seem to me to be patriotic Americans. And, it’s clear, if you read the comments, that many of them – probably the majority – want Russia to win the war. This is not because they like Putin or Russia particularly, and certainly not because they’re on the “Putin payroll”. Not at all. These people understand what is really at stake.

These are people who know that the American war party (one of many names – deep state, borg, neocons, one percent, MICIMAC) is responsible for pushing Russia to the decision that it made last February. That it is the war party that expanded NATO despite the promises, that arms Ukraine, that encourages the fanatics driving that country, that blocks all routes to a peaceful settlement, that encourages Kiev to squander the lives of its people. But what really concerns these patriotic Americans is the damage the war party has done to their country.

The fundamental maxims of her policy would insensibly change from liberty to force… She might become the dictatress of the world. She would be no longer the ruler of her own spirit…

Last year was a bad year for corn — the latest US Department of Agriculture (USDA) report shows drought conditions and extreme weather wreaked havoc on croplands.

USDA unexpectedly slashed its outlook for domestic corn production amid a severe drought across the western farm belt. Farmers in Nebraska, Kansas, and Texas were forced to abandon drought-plagued fields

A junior forward on the #4 Alabama Crimson Tide men's basketball team has been charged with capital murder after an early-morning shooting near the school's Tuscaloosa campus.

The player, 23-year-old Darius Hairston Miles, is one of two men facing murder charges following the shooting death of a woman, 23-year-old Jamea Jonae Harrison, of Birmingham, who was mother to a five-year-old

"It appears at this time that the shooting was the result of a minor argument that occurred between the victims and suspects after they encountered each other along the strip," said Tuscaloosa Police Captain Jack Kennedy. The Strip is an area of bars, restaurants and retail shops along University Boulevard, and is a focal point of the college town's night life.

As a handcuffed Miles was escorted from Tuscaloosa County Jail into a police vehicle, he could be seen crying, “I swear, I love you more than you imagine.” It wasn't clear whom he was addressing. The capital murder charge springs from the fact that fatal shots were fired into a vehicle.

Over the last few years, there has been much written about the destruction of American democracy. Frequently the threat has been of alleged interference in U.S. elections by Russia, China or other state actors. Government agencies, the name of election integrity, were assigned to identify and disrupt these foreign intrusions. As more and more information is revealed about these agencies, it seems that America's Intelligence Community participated in these activities domestically, and in a way that poses a grave threat to both election integrity and American democracy.

Just last week it was revealed that the FBI again withheld pertinent information from the American public, for past two months, until after the November 8, 2022 federal election. As with the Bureau's reported cover-up of evidence influence-peddling reportedly found on Hunter Biden's laptop, agents knew, since November 2, 2022, about at least some of the three sets of classified material that illegally found their way into the garage and library of President Joe Biden and into the Penn Biden Center think tank at the University of Pennsylvania -- to which anonymous members of the Chinese Communist Party have donated $54.6 million.

Their existence only became known this week, after the newly elected Republican-majority House of Representatives announced that it would hold hearings on "how the [Justice] department handled investigations into classified materials found at former President Donald Trump's Florida home and those found at President Joe Biden's office in a Washington think tank bearing his name and his Delaware home..."

In addition, the recent release of the "Twitter Files" has raised at least two major concerns regarding actions by the Intelligence Community. The first is that the wall of separation between the Intelligence Community and the U.S. media has not only sprung a leak, it has totally collapsed. The report that officials from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) met weekly with Twitter executives to coordinate information is totally inappropriate. Would officials from the ODNI review, affirm or label certain sets of information as false? When ODNI was created, no one intended its officials to have a role in these types of discussions.

So Los Angeles has a new mayor -- the far-left Karen Bass, and it hasn't taken long for changes to kick in, letting the police know she doesn't have their back.

Latest news is this diktat from above, as reported by Fox News:

The Los Angeles Police Department banned the Thin Blue Line flag from public areas within police departments this week over a complaint that the flag represented "violent, extremist views."

LAPD Chief Michel Moore defended the controversial move in an email sent to Fox News Digital, saying, "Yesterday, we received a community complaint of the presence of a Blue Line Flag" with "the view that it symbolized support for violent extremist views, such as those represented by the Proud Boys and others."

"I directed to have the item taken down from the public lobby. The U.S. flag should be proudly displayed in our lobbies whenever possible. Memorials for our fallen are also authorized in all public spaces," he said.

As Tesla shares plummeted in value at the end of last year, one investor who lost out was Paul Pelosi, the husband of former Speaker and Democratic Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California.

Paul Pelosi lost more than $500,000 as Tesla dipped, according to Business Insider.

Tesla, of course, is currently lead by billionaire Elon Musk.

Pelosi reported that the final weeks of the year cost him $2.5 million as other investments lost money, including one in Salesforce, a cloud-based software company, that cost Pelosi nearly $734,000.

In March, Paul Pelosi had acquired $2 million worth of shares in Tesla, according to Forbes.

Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar has spent more than four years demonstrating to Americans how wrong a Democrat can be.

Whether it’s her antipathy for police, her willingness to engage in unfounded attacks on Christians, or the barely disguised anti-Semitism that produces her anti-Israel positions, Omar is sort of a walking caricature of the worst of Democratic excesses.

But her response to the classified documents controversy currently surrounding President Joe Biden is in a class by itself.

In an appearance Saturday on MSNBC (of course) Omar said Republicans are simply using the revelations of Biden’s cavalier treatment of classified information as a “political game.”

First, Omar declared that she was “glad” a special counsel has been appointed to investigate the Biden documents. (The liberal website Mediaite has the video here.)

“Because any time there is a deviance in regards to security protocols that should be taken serious, it should be investigated,” she said.

Then, Omar went on the offensive — invoking, as Democrats obsessively do with all things, former President Donald Trump.

People are now questioning Republican Rep. George Santos’s name in light of a video clip from 2019 that appears to show him using the name Anthony Devolder.

The mystery surrounding the embattled freshman Republican’s name is the latest controversy faced by Santos, who has been accused of misrepresenting his educational, work and family history.

Santos was elected to New York’s 3rd congressional district during last year’s midterm elections.

Street takeovers are stupid and dangerous, something we’ve been warning about for some time. Sadly, a lot of kids go to them thinking they’re just harmless fun, but for one young woman in Los Angeles attending one of these illegal events proved to be fatal. What’s worse, the whole thing happened on Christmas Day.

The victim, 24-year-old Elyzza Guajaca, was hit by a black Chevy Camaro as she was standing with a group of people on the corner of Crenshaw Boulevard and Florence Avenue. Rushed to a local hospital, she later died.

Later, police found the Camaro left abandoned with the crash damage. However, they’re still searching for the driver. We know many of the cars used in these street takeover events have been stolen, which is partly why the drivers don’t care what damage they do to them. That’s probably why vehicle registration info isn’t helping to track down the suspect.

The police investigation concluded up to 7 more people were hit by the Camaro when the driver lost control. However, none of the other victims have come forward. That’s sadly not surprising given the attitudes of many who attend street takeover events.

The latest US weapons package to Ukraine, worth an estimated $2.85 billion, is being billed as a potential game-changer as key offensive platforms are being included for the first time.

The package includes 50 Bradley Fighting Vehicles, a medium-armored platform armed with a 25-mm gun that can provide safe transport for up to seven soldiers (depending on the variant), in addition to a crew of three. The Bradley has a top speed of around 38 miles per hour and is also armed with an anti-tank TOW missile launcher, the eponymous ‘tank-killer.’ The platform will be a natural complement for combined arms operations in the flat expanses of the Donbas; however, it will take several weeks of transport and training time before they can actually be deployed on the battlefield.

Reports indicate that the variant being sent to Ukraine is the M2A2 ODS, a somewhat recent modification created based on the combat experience of Operation Desert Storm. The variant includes a new laser range finder, a TACNAV GPS and compass, a first-generation guided missile defense system, and improved thermal imaging.

News of the Bradley delivery comes in the wake of similar announcements from EU allies, which taken together represent the first donations of light tanks/IFW from Western allies. France has agreed to send AMX-10 fighting vehicles, and Germany 40 of its Marder armored vehicle platform. Germany has also announced that it will be joining the United States in providing Patriot air defense systems to Kyiv.

It may be MLK Day, but Democrats aren’t here for all that “content of character” stuff.

Rep. Shelia Jackson Lee, long in the running for being the vapidest member of Congress (oops, did I just commit a crime?), has introduced legislation that could make political criticism by white people against minorities a federal crime.

In what can only be called a convoluted mess, the bill proposes that a white person who “vilifies” any non-white person and has their words end up on social media, accessible by “persons who are predisposed to engaging in any action in furtherance of a white supremacy inspired hate crime,” would themselves be committing a federal crime.

I sent an email asking the leading anti-vax debunkers to join me in calling out the corruption at the CDC for not disclosing any of the safety signals that triggered in VAERS. “Are you going to speak out or remain silent?”

Instead of criticizing the CDC (which would have been the right thing to do), they tried to debunk my article.

This led to an epic fail in plain sight that can easily be verified by anyone.

So if you had any doubts about whether these people are champions of truth and science (like they claim to be), this article will make it crystal clear: all of these people are about supporting the government narrative and trying to discredit anyone who challenges the narrative. They are NOT about exposing the truth.

I will examine each one of their responses below so you can see just how deceitful these people are.

All the evidence you need to determine who is telling you the truth is hiding in plain sight and it’s all from the CDC itself!

It’s four in the morning and you awaken with crushing chest pain. Your family calls 911 and paramedics arrive and diagnose a cardiac event. They inform you that they need to transport you forty-five minutes away because your two local hospitals have closed over the last several months. Even when you arrive at the hospital, there is massive overcrowding and they inform you that there are no ICU beds open for you in that fifty percent of the beds in the cardiac unit are “browned out” due to lack of staff. This nightmare is an all too familiar post pandemic reality about the delivery of health care in our country. This is not the expectation that the public expects in the delivery of health care in one of the richest nations in the world that has been at the cutting edge of health care innovation of the last century.

What has led to this post-pandemic nightmare is multifactorial. The pandemic changed how health care professionals are both valued and how they see themselves. During the height of the pandemic they were heroes that were endangering their lives to help the community. But now things look different.

Around 7,000 nurses on strike in New York City nursing strike is emblematic of the dire situation. Nurses, who are essential to the critical functioning of all hospitals, are entitled not only to more equitable compensation and benefits, but ultimately safer staffing ratios in all patient care settings. What’s ironic is that the strike will force these very health care systems to replace employed nurses with temporary nurses from staffing agencies, further compounding their financial woes, and ultimately, their bottom lines. Until we invest in people and their value in healthcare, we won’t be able to see light at the end of the tunnel.

As an American who grew up in the 1940s and 1950s I wonder what became of my country. We were a homogeneous Christian people proud of our history. We were unified with a common language, prayer in public schools, and monuments to dead white men. We were safe in our homes and schools, in our streets, and on public transportation. A five-year old child could walk to school safely. Public schools were good. Teachers had degrees in the subjects they taught, not in something called education. We looked to the future with optimism.

What happened to my country? It was torn apart by bitchy white liberals, by the influence of Jewish Marxists known as the Frankfort School, and by the 1965 immigration act that turned the United States into a Tower of Babel. These developments launched the denunciation and “unmasking” that branded America as “racist,” “exploitative,” and “misogynist.” Today our history is a compendium of crimes as the New York Times 1619 Project, now taught in public schools, illustrates.

Restitution set in, with the result being that white American citizens, especially heterosexual white males, have become second class citizens against whom it is legal to discriminate in university admissions, hiring, and promotion. White students and employees are also required to be re-educated in “sensitivity training,” but no other race has to be sensitive toward white people.

A former FBI agent who investigated the 1968 assassination of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. was to present on Tuesday what he claimed was evidence never before disclosed in the case. Donald Wilson, who left the FBI in 1987, was one of two agents who on April 10, 1968, impounded a white Ford Mustang belonging to James Earl Ray, who confessed to the killing but later recanted, saying the case was a conspiracy involving federal agents. Wilson said Monday he found and kept two slips of paper from the car, which was found in Atlanta's Capitol Homes housing project, that may support Ray's claim of a government conspiracy in the April 4, 1968, assassination. "This is very significant," King's son, Dexter King, told The Atlanta Constitution. "The evidence that he has will go a long way toward disputing the official story." Ray, 70, was sentenced to life in prison for killing King He has been diagnosed with liver cancer. The King family said it supports his request for a new trial. Wilson said he did not reveal the evidence earlier because he did not trust some of the investigators in the case. He said he also feared for his family. He said he contacted the King family after hearing the slain civil rights leader's wife Coretta Scott King ask Tennessee officials in 1997 to let Ray's case go to trial.
