Conservatives sounded the alarm following news that former President Donald Trump expects to be arrested on Tuesday based on “illegal leaks” from the Manhattan district attorney’s office.

Republican lawmakers and conservative figures and commentators said the predicted arrest of Trump, who is running for president in 2024, shows how the justice system is “weaponized against all Americans” and warned that the United States is turning into a “banana republic.” Even so, many conservatives wager an arrest would only further reveal the extent of Democrat corruption, ultimately skyrocketing support for Trump’s presidential run.

“Here we go again — an outrageous abuse of power by a radical DA who lets violent criminals walk as he pursues political vengeance against President Trump,” said House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who called for an immediate investigation into “if federal funds are being used to subvert our democracy by interfering in elections with politically motivated prosecutions.”

Nevertheless, Netanyahu arrived in the German capital on March 16 where he met German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Law enforcement agencies are preparing for the possibility of former President Donald Trump’s indictment.

State, local and federal agencies are eyeing security measures in the event of Trump’s indictment, according to five senior officials cited by NBC News on Friday.

The indictment could come as soon as next week.

Trump would be charged with an offense related to alleged improper payments to pornographic performer Stormy Daniels, according to NBC.

 Mexico's army has dramatically revised upward the number of drug lab raids it says it conducted under President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, according to government data and leaked military documents reviewed by Reuters.

The documents, found among a trove of millions of emails leaked last year by the Guacamaya hacker group, show the upward revision being due to the army retroactively including hundreds of inactive labs on its seizures list under Lopez Obrador's presidency. Figures for the years of previous administrations were left unchanged.

Mexico's army, in a response to a freedom of information request in February, now says it seized 635 synthetic drug labs during 2019, 2020 and 2021 - the first three years of Lopez Obrador's administration - up from 104 busts it had previously reported for the same period.

Nearly 200 more banks may be vulnerable to the same type of risk that took down Silicon Valley Bank: The value of the assets they hold. 

There are 186 banks across the country that could fail if half of their depositors quickly withdraw their funds, a new study published on the Social Science Research Network found.

Even insured depositors — those with $250,000 or less in the bank — could have problems getting their cash if these institutions face the sort of run that Silicon Valley saw a week ago.

The concern is that these banks hold a significant amount of their assets in interest-rate sensitive financial instruments like government bonds and mortgage backed securities. The value of those older, low-interest investments dropped sharply as the Federal Reserve hiked interest rates over the past year.

Paris police have banned gatherings in the city’s spots in areas around important government sites in an effort to end protests against France's plan to raise the state pension age by two years without a vote.

As part of the new payment system launched last year, Indonesian President Joko Widodo called on Wednesday for his country to abandon the use of foreign payment networks like MasterCard and Visa and encouraged the public to adopt credit cards made by domestic banks. American carriers are losing as much as $2 billion annually in market share to competitors not forced to avoid Russian airspace

The US Transportation Department is considering a ban on the use of Russian airspace for Chinese airlines that fly passengers to the US, three officials from the administration of President Joe Biden told the New York Times on Friday. An order that would impose on Chinese competitors the same restrictions on using Russian airspace faced by US airlines was reportedly presented to members of the national security team and others last Monday.

The proposal is the result of lobbying by US air carriers, who have lost as much as $2 billion annually in market share to foreign competitors not subject to the US' ban on flying over Russian territory, according to industry trade group Airlines for America. A spokeswoman for the group confirmed it wants the Biden administration to "take action to ensure that foreign carriers overflying Russia do not depart, land or transit through US airports."

China’s Finance Ministry has imposed an unprecedented fine of 212 million yuan ($30.8 million) on accountancy firm Deloitte, for negligence in its audit of bad-debt manager China Huarong, the ministry said in a statement on its website on Friday. Bad-debt managers are asset management firms that are tasked with buying distressed loans from banks.

According to the financial authorities, several inspections, staff interviews, and a paperwork review revealed that Deloitte, one of the ‘Big Four’ global accounting giants, had failed to detect the condition of Huarong’s underlying assets and objectively assess its businesses operations from 2014 to 2019. Huarong also concealed the fact that it experienced a number of internal and risk control failures at the time, according to the ministry.

“During the period when it offered auditing services [to Huarong], [Deloitte] did not maintain [a] professional skeptical attitude, did not effectively conduct essential auditing procedures, did not obtain sufficient and adequate auditing evidence and had severe auditing flaws,” the statement read.

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair has claimed that the US-led invasion of Iraq was more justified than Russia’s ongoing military operation in Ukraine, despite all of his pre-war claims since being proven false.

Speaking to Germany’s DPA and two other European news agencies, Blair stated that the invasion – in which 46,000 British troops took part – was a legitimate response Saddam Hussein’s domestic repressions and his use of chemical weapons against the Kurds.

The British government has commissioned Rolls-Royce to develop a nuclear reactor that could one day power a lunar base as part of a US-led mission to house humans on the moon. However the project has thus far been plagued by delays and cost overruns.

The UK Space Agency announced on Friday that it has awarded £2.9 million ($3.5 million) to Rolls-Royce to build a prototype. The British engineering firm, which is owned by German firm BMW, plans on having a working reactor ready by 2029.

“As we prepare to see humans return to the Moon for the first time in more than 50 years, we are backing exciting research like this lunar modular reactor with Rolls-Royce to pioneer new power sources for a lunar base,” the minister of state at the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology, George Freeman, said in a statement.
