"When once a Republic is corrupted, there is no possibility of remedying any of the growing evils but by removing the corruption and restoring its lost principles; every other correction is either useless or a new evil." -- Thomas Jefferson

“Do you accept the verdict of the New York jury that found Donald Trump guilty on all 34 counts?”

That will be the question asked of every Republican from now until the presidential election in November, and if Republicans don’t know how to answer, they will look like idiots, which is exactly what the left-leaning media wants.

You can’t just say yes because the implied premise of the question is that the verdict was fair, and that could not be further from the truth. But you can’t just say no either, because the verdict is a fact, just like the O.J. verdict. It exists, and it has to be explained.

Of course, what the media inquisitors will try to do is paint Trump supporters into a corner. If you say you don’t support the verdict, you will be “justice deniers,” in the term smartly coined by talk-show host Dan Bongino last week. But Republicans can’t let that be the final word.

They have to explain that when you say you are accepting the verdict, it just means you are accepting that the verdict was the inevitable result of a corrupt New York legal system. Anyone who represents Trump or the MAGA movement has to be fully in command of the facts and be prepared to explain them. Start with the assignment of Judge Juan Merchan to the case and ask why this is the third Trump-related case he has been assigned to. Talk about the judge’s refusal to recuse himself despite his status as a Joe Biden donor and his daughter’s status as a multi-million dollar fund-raiser for Democrats.

Then demand answers for the multiple reversible errors Merchan committed in creating the court record – the salacious and irrelevant testimony of porn star Stormy Daniels, the refusal to allow Trump to present an expert witness who could explain federal election law to the jury and why Trump didn’t violate it. How about the unconstitutional decision to withhold from Trump and his attorneys the exact nature of the underlying crime, which turned misdemeanor charges into felonies, and Merchan’s claim that the jury did not even have to be unanimous in identifying such an underlying crime?

Of course, CNN, MSNBC, and the Sunday morning news shows won’t raise any of those troubling issues, so when a Trump supporter tries to explain the difference between a fair trial and a show trial, they will be shouted down by their interviewers.

This is not a new playbook. We’ve been watching the same kind of “gotcha” journalism for months as Republicans have been grilled by reporters in an attempt to paint them as “election deniers.”

“Will you accept the election results of 2024 no matter what happens?”

That is the question NBC’s Kristen Welker posed to Sen. Marco Rubio during his recent appearance on “Meet the Press,” but it is nearly identical to the question being asked to every supporter of Donald Trump for the past year

Fires continued to blaze across Israel’s north on Tuesday as a result of Hezbollah rockets and drones fired at the Galilee and Golan Heights over the past few days. Israeli firefighting services said on Tuesday morning that most of the large fires were under control but that teams were still battling the flames.

The Israeli fire department said its firefighters were "working hard to protect communities and property," adding that there was no threat to lives or infrastructure at the current time.

Over 30 firefighting teams were deployed to extinguish the flames. As a result of the fires, major roads in the Galilee remain shuttered.

The fire service also said nearly 990 acres of land were burned near Amiad. Israel’s Ziv Medical Center said early Tuesday in the northern city of Safad said it treated six reserve soldiers and five settlers for injuries and smoke inhalation

The fires burned across Mount Adir, Kfar Giladi, Kiryat Shmona, and other areas. The fire service said it was still working to contain flames in Keren Naftali, which had broken out the day before.

The city of Katzrin, known as the Israeli capital of the occupied Golan Heights, was also subjected to intense flames.

New satellite imagery from the European Commission’s Sentinel-2 satellite showed a massive swathe of scorched land just south of Katzrin. Hezbollah had targeted the Katzrin area with a rocket barrage on Sunday.

In early March, U.S. banks faced substantial unrealized losses, ominous figures hinting at potential disaster. At the end of 2022, these losses hit $1.7 trillion, nearly matching the total equity of U.S. banks, which stood at $2.1 trillion. Rising interest rates slashed the value of assets like U.S. Treasuries and mortgage-backed securities, mainstays in bank portfolios. What happened was a relentless rise in interest rates, causing fixed-income securities to plummet in value. Banks, heavily invested in government bonds and mortgage-backed securities, saw their holdings battered. Unrealized losses aren't immediate disasters, but they loom ominously. If market conditions worsen or banks sell assets at depressed prices, these paper losses could become crushing realized losses. Compounding this peril, nearly $7 trillion of U.S. bank deposits are uninsured by the FDIC. A panic-induced withdrawal spree by uninsured depositors could jeopardize hundreds of billions in deposits, pushing the banking system to the brink.

Joe Biden threatened to assault a reporter who called him out for his old age.

TIME Magazine interviewed Joe Biden at the White House on May 28. Of course, it was a softball interview.

At one point the interviewer asked Biden about his old age. Biden didn’t take it well. He threatened the reporter:

The last two years of Presidents, two-term President’s tenure are usually focused on foreign affairs. You are 81 years old, and would be 86 by the time you left office. Large majorities of Americans, including in the Democratic Party, tell pollsters they think you are too old to lead. Could you really do this job as an 85-year old man?

Biden: I can do it better than anybody you know. You’re looking at me, I can take you too.

Did you consider not running again because of your age?

Biden: No, I didn’t.

And what do you say to Americans who are worried about it?

Biden: Watch me. Look, name me a president that’s gotten as much done as I’ve gotten done in my first three and a half years. When all of you wrote in Time magazine I couldn’t get any of it done. When you told me there’s no pay, no way, no way he can get a trillion-plus dollar bill done in terms of, to deal with infrastructure, where there’s no way he gets $368 billion for dealing with the environment, where there’s no way I could get the, the, the legislation passed on.
