US President Joe Biden's administration is preparing to send arms to Israel even as Washington pushes for a ceasefire in Gaza, according to a report on Friday in the Wall Street Journal citing current and former American officials.

The planned weapons delivery includes MK-82 bombs and KMU-572 Joint Direct Attack Munitions that add precision guidance to bombs, as well as FMU-139 bomb fuses.

The value of the arms is estimated to be in the "tens of millions of dollars", according to the report.

The delivery is still being reviewed internally by Washington, according to a US official, who said that details of the proposal could change before the government notifies congressional committee leaders for approval.

Webmaster addition:  Calls for a ceasefire are pure political theater. Biden knows the war is unpopular, so he talks peace, but sends weapons or war (that you pay for).

Recent economic data paints a troubling picture for the UK, indicating that the nation’s economic struggles are exacerbated by a growing number of individuals unable to work due to long-term illness. The reasons behind this trend are varied, with factors such as long Covid, NHS treatment delays, workplace practices, stress, and the lingering effects of austerity contributing to the problem.

A US Middle East official explained that Israeli decisions to target police in Gaza have made the distribution of aid in the besieged enclave “virtually impossible.” The official added that Israel has failed to provide evidence for its claim that Hamas is stealing the aid sent into Gaza. Tel Aviv has used allegations that Hamas is tied to international humanitarian agencies and steals shipments to severely restrict aid deliveries into Gaza as hundreds of thousands of Palestinians are starving to death.

David Satterfield, the Biden administration’s special Middle East envoy for humanitarian issues, explained that Israel had killed several members of the police force in Gaza that safeguarded aid deliveries. Targeting the police force led to them being unable to escort aid deliveries.

“With the departure of police escorts, it has been virtually impossible for the UN or anyone else, Jordan, the UAE, or any other implementer to safely move assistance in Gaza because of criminal elements,” Satterfield said at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace on Friday.

In late January, I left my home in Virginia, where I work as a plastic and reconstructive surgeon and joined a group of physicians and nurses traveling to Egypt with the humanitarian aid group MedGlobal to volunteer in Gaza.

I have worked in other war zones. But what I witnessed during the next 10 days in Gaza was not war — it was annihilation. At least 28,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s bombardment of Gaza. From Cairo, Egypt’s capital, we drove 12 hours east to the Rafah border. We passed miles of parked humanitarian aid trucks because they weren’t allowed into Gaza. Aside from my team and other envoy members from the United Nations and World Health Organization, there were very few others there.

Israel's home front is preparing for a possible escalation in its conflict with Lebanon's militant group Hezbollah, fearing attacks on the power grid and the deployment of devastating "Volcano" (Iranian-made Burkan) missiles.

According to Nayef Zidani, a reporter with The New Arab's Arabic service Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, Hezbollah could target Israel's electricity infrastructure in an upcoming war, causing prolonged outages and impacting hospitals.

Israel has held unpublicised emergency meetings recently to survey contingency plans that include backup generators, according to the report, particularly in communities near the border with Lebanon.

Since October, Egypt has joined most of the international community in calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. With Egypt being the only Arab country to border Gaza, Cairo’s stakes are high. The longer Israel’s war on the besieged enclave continues, the threats to Egypt’s economy, national security, and political stability will become more serious.

Located along the Gaza-Egypt border is Rafah, a 25-square-mile city that until recently was home to 300,000 Palestinians. Now approximately 1.4 million Palestinians are sheltering in Rafah because of the Israeli military’s wanton destruction of Gaza City, Khan Younis, and other parts of the Strip. Having asserted that four Hamas battalions are now in Rafah, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared that deploying Israeli forces to this Palestinian city is necessary for his country to defeat Hamas amid this war. As of writing, Israel’s military is preparing to launch a campaign for Rafah.

Officials in Cairo fear that Israeli military operations in Rafah could result in a large number of Palestinians entering the Sinai. “An Israeli offensive on Rafah would lead to an unspeakable humanitarian catastrophe and grave tensions with Egypt,” said European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell on February 10.

Schools are just teaching honest history.

That’s been the lie educators, teachers unions and the mainstream media have parroted for three years in response to the growing chorus of parents of all political stripes asserting schools are indoctrinating the nation’s children in critical race theory and leftist politics.

Now the paper of record concedes we parents were right.

In a front-page article in Friday’s New York Times, “Ethnic Studies Collides With Israel-Hamas War,” education reporter Dana Goldstein exposes the truth about K-12 education.

The article is ostensibly about the blatant antisemitism embedded in California’s ethnic-studies curriculum, which must be in all public high schools by 2025 and a graduation requirement by 2030.

The legislation was pushed, of course, by the 310,000-member-strong California Teachers Association, the largest affiliate of our country’s largest teachers union, the National Education Association.

2016’s UK’s Brexit and Trump’s election have been viewed as growing resentment and public backlash among voters against rising income inequality that set the stage to anticipate a groundswell of a burgeoning populist movement, delayed initially by the Covid-19 hoax, then expedited by worldwide authoritarian overreach. Cheerleading architects of the pandemic and elites’ “Great Reset” – King Charles III and World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Klaus Schwab – showed their true colors. Their glimpsing preview of their “build back better” Reset slogan “we will own nothing” in their dystopic globalization agenda-on-steroids was all we needed to know. Their neo-feudal vision for our approaching future includes universally mandated digital IDs, more mandated kill shots, enslavement living in 15-minute smart cities surveillance 24/7 complete with social credit scores and eating bugs for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In recent years, the massively conspired global government overreach unleashing their genocidal COVID bioterror assault and deadly bioweapon poison masqueraded as “safe and effective vaccines,” gradually coalesced worldwide into an increasing distrust toward global government, global healthcare, Big Pharma, Big Tech and Big Media industries.

Israel's top ally the United States signalled it would veto the latest push for a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire, as Washington instead favours a temporary truce and hostage release deal.

And mediator Qatar acknowledged that separate ceasefire talks had also hit an impasse after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected some Hamas demands as "ludicrous".

Israel has concentrated its military operations in Khan Yunis, the hometown of Hamas's Gaza leader Yahya Sinwar, whom it accuses of masterminding the October 7 attack.

Tens of thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters marched in London on Saturday, with police making 12 arrests for alleged offences including inciting racial hatred and assaulting emergency workers.

The demonstrators gathered at Park Lane in the centre of the British capital holding banners demanding a "ceasefire now" while chanting "free Palestine".

"People are very, very concerned that there's going to be a disaster piled upon an already existing disaster in Rafah," John Rees, from Stop the War Coalition, told AFP.

"What I hope is that we can avert this tragedy being made permanent."

London's Metropolitan Police said 12 people had been arrested, including two for displaying anti-Semitic placards.

President Biden appeared to get his facts muddled once again on Saturday as he confused a Congressional funding bill for Ukraine with that of NATO.

Biden, who is on vacation in Delaware, was speaking to reporters as he walked from his motorcade when he got his facts confused as he called for 'Congress to come home and pass the legislation funding NATO.'

The $95 billion aid package the president was speaking about would see $61 billion sent to Ukraine - which it not part of NATO.

The funding would be mainly in the form of military equipment from the U.S. It would also send foreign assistance and humanitarian aid to Israel, Gaza and allies in the Indo-Pacific region, including Taiwan

'The idea that we're going to walk away from Ukraine; the idea that we're going to let NATO begin to split is totally against the idea of the United States of America,' Biden began.

Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), an outspoken critic of former President Trump, warned of the emergence of a “Putin wing” of the Republican party and stressed the importance of preventing its return to the White House.

In an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Cheney sharply criticized Trump’s recent comments suggesting he would not defend NATO allies in the wake of an attack from Russia and his recent silence following the death of the anti-corruption, pro-democracy opposition leader in Russia, Alexei Navalny.

“I think that we have to take Donald Trump very seriously,” Cheney said Sunday. “We have to take seriously the extent to which you have now got a Putin wing of the Republican Party.”

“I believe the issue this election cycle is making sure the Putin wing of the Republican Party does not take over the West Wing of the White House,” she continued.

I saw a comment from an Israel defender saying “You just lack the intellect to comprehend the complexities of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict!”

Just in the last few days we learned that Israeli snipers have been deliberately picking off children in Gaza by shooting them in the head, that Israeli troops summarily executed a prisoner in handcuffs after sending him into a hospital to deliver a message to evacuate, and that Egypt has begun constructing refugee camps in the Sinai Desert to facilitate the ethnic cleansing of Gazans.

“Complexities”. This isn’t complex.

Al-Zaghari told Al Jazeera that testimonies from released prisoners reveal beatings, insults, and threats of rape.

He added that the arrest of Palestinian women and girls has increased and that they face torture, ill-treatment, and intentional neglect.

Beaten brutally

Jaafar Obayat, who recently left Megiddo Prison after 17 years, told Al Jazeera that in the days after October 7, prisoners were assaulted and clothes, necessities, food, blankets, TVs, radios, tables and chairs were confiscated.

That prisoners had such items in their cells in the first place was the fruit of struggles by prisoners over decades.

In Negev Prison, prisoner Thaer Abu Asab was killed simply for asking a guard if there was a ceasefire, a released prisoner, who requested anonymity, told Al Jazeera. He added that prisoners were beaten in their cells near-daily.

When Abu Asab asked his question, the response was an ominous “I’ll show you,” then the guard called a whole unit into Abu Asab’s cell. They beat him with iron rods all over, including his face, and left him lying there.

The prisoners were afraid to ask for medical attention, but eventually, unable to watch him suffer, they shouted until a nurse came to examine him. Two days later, they were told he had died.

Everyone in Abu Asab’s cell, the anonymous prisoner said, was beaten with iron rods after that.

The PPS has recorded thousands of injuries – fractures, bruises and worse – among imprisoned Palestinians who get no treatment. Eight prisoners have died in the last four months after being beaten and not treated, like Mohammed al-Sabar, who died in Ofer prison on February 8

Claire's Observations:  Somewhere in the deepest bowels of hell, Josef Mengele is laughing and applauding this behaviour, on the part of IDF prison guards. Torture is a war crime, by any civilized societal standards; and that fact this this behaviour is not only allowed by Israeli government, but encouraged by it, proves the obvious;  Israel is an horrifically uncivilized country.

A new bill has been filed to give state attorneys general greater authority and legal standing to sue the federal government when it fails to enforce federal immigration law established by Congress.

Republican U.S. Reps. Chip Roy of Texas and Dan Bishop of North Carolina introduced the Standing Up to the Executive Branch for Immigration Enforcement Act, or “SUE for Immigration Enforcement Act,” on Wednesday. The six-page bill is being marked up by the House Judiciary Committee.

It was filed in response to a U.S. Supreme Court ruling last July that held that Texas and Louisiana did not have standing to challenge a policy implemented by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, which effectively ended most deportations of illegal foreign nationals.

British Labour leader Keir Starmer said on Sunday a lasting ceasefire is needed between Israel and Hamas, his first such statement since the start of the war in October.

The comments appeared to be a change of position for Starmer, who had previously resisted pressure within his Labour party to call for a ceasefire, backing Israel’s right to fight Hamas after the atrocities of October 7.

With Labour well ahead in the polls before an election later this year, Starmer is keen to present a united front to voters, but the conflict in Gaza has tested that unity.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sided on Sunday with far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, endorsing restrictions on Arab Israelis’ access to Al-Aqsa Mosque on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount during Ramadan, according to multiple reports.

Channels 12, 13, Haaretz, and other outlets reported that the decision diverged from the recommendations of parts of the security establishment.

A governmental source told Channel 12 news that the decision was not final, and was still being considered.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Saturday that the current international system leaves countries with the choice of being either at the table or on the menu, in a comment on the global impact of the US-China rivalry.

"If you are not at the table in the international system, you're gonna be on the menu," Blinken said at the annual Munich Security Conference.

Blinken also confirmed the ongoing strategic rivalry between China and the United States, adding that the US is trying to engage various countries in cooperation on a voluntary basis.

"What we don't need to do and what we're not doing is trying to somehow divide a world into rigid blocs," Blinken added.

People stand in line to get visas at the Thai embassy in Yangon after Myanmar's military government said it would impose military service

More than 1,000 people lined up at the Thai embassy in Yangon on Friday as young people sought to leave Myanmar after the junta said it would impose military service.

The military said last weekend it would enforce a law allowing it to call up all men aged 18-35 and women aged 18-27 to serve for at least two years, as it struggles to quell opposition to its 2021 coup.

The junta faces widespread armed opposition to its rule three years after seizing power from an elected civilian government and recently suffered a series of stunning losses to an armed alliance of ethnic minority groups.

The Thai embassy in Yangon has been swamped with young men and women seeking visas to get out of Myanmar since the announcement last Saturday that the "People's Military Service Law" would be brought into force.

Claire's Observations:  This "Brain Drain" is going to hurt the government of Myanmar not only militarily, but also  economically as well.    These kids who are "voting with their feet" understand that this conscription law is far more about suppressing domestic dissent, than it is about fight wars against "enemies du jour"

Ursula von der Leyen will formally announce her candidacy for a second term as president of the European Commission on Monday, German tabloid Bild has reported. Von der Leyen has already hinted that she seeks a second term, promising on Saturday to appoint a dedicated “defense commissioner” if she holds on to her office.

To secure a second term, von der Leyen will first have to be nominated by her faction in the European Parliament, the centrist European People’s Party (EPP). Speaking to Reuters last month, EPP lawmaker Daniel Caspary said the party would nominate von der Leyen at a congress in March, “if that’s what she wants.”

Should the EPP emerge as the largest party in June’s European elections, which it is projected to do, von der Leyen’s candidacy would then be put before the European Council. From there, a majority vote by the council’s 27 members followed by the parliament’s final approval would see the German installed for another five-year term at the helm of the commission.

Fighting between Russian and NATO-backed Ukrainian forces in the Black Sea and the US campaign against drone-armed Houthis in the Red Sea has shown the growing importance of naval drones in modern warfare. Russian designers have gone a step further, creating a heavy unmanned underwater vehicle that can act as a decoy to fool enemy warships.

Russia’s United Shipbuilding Corporation has teased new details on a promising autonomous underwater drone known as the Surrogat-V (lit. "Surrogate-V"), with the "V" standing for Vedomiy ("Wingman" or "Slave").

“The Surrogat-V will support the operations of manned submarines, primarily in maintaining and restoring stealth. The ‘Wingman’ will take on tasks which would otherwise give away [the manned sub], including communication, the use of active search tools, etc.,” the holding company, owners of the St. Petersburg-based Rubin Design Bureau developing the new unmanned underwater vehicle, said in a press release this week.
