The Israel Defense Forces on Friday yet again shelled tents of displaced Palestinians near the city of Rafah in the Gaza Strip, killing at least 25 and wounding another 50, local health and emergency officials said.

“According to Ahmed Radwan, a spokesperson for Civil Defense first responders in Rafah, witnesses told rescue workers about the shelling at two locations in a coastal area that has become filled with tents,” The Associated Pressreported.

“The locations of the attacks provided by the Civil Defense appear to be just outside an Israeli-designated safe zone,” the news agency noted. “The Israeli military said the episode was under review but that ‘there is no indication that a strike was carried out by the IDF’ inside the safe zone, using an acronym for the Israeli forces. It did not offer details on the episode or say what the intended targets might have been.”

Tens of thousands of protesters waving Israeli flags and chanting slogans against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government rallied in Tel Aviv Saturday, demanding new elections and the return of hostages held in Gaza.

Large protests have occurred in the Israeli city on a weekly basis over Netanyahu’s handling of the nearly nine-month-old war in Gaza started by Hamas’s October 7 attack on southern Israel.

Many protesters held signs reading “Crime Minister” and “Stop the War” as people poured into the biggest Israeli city’s main thoroughfare.

“I am here because I am afraid of the future of my grandchild. There will be no future for them if we don’t go out and get rid of the horrible government,” said 66-year-old contractor Shai Erel.

“All of the rats in the Knesset... I wouldn’t let any one of them be a guard of a kindergarten.”

n his recent article “The Destabilization of Haiti: Anatomy of a Military Coup d’Etat“, Professor Michel Chossudovsky memorizes 29 February 2024 as the 20th anniversary of the coup d’État against Haiti’s elected president Jean-Bertrand Aristide.

He also describes the military motives for controlling Haiti, namely to destabilize the country and to plunge it into constant chaos. This is precisely what has happened. Haiti is in a constant state of near absolute poverty – by far the poorest country in all Latin America according to official UN / World Bank indices.

Is there a reason?

As we will see, Haiti is also one of the world’s richest countries, per capita, judged by available natural resources, oil and gas. Discovered before the 2010 earthquake and confirmed by the tremendous 7.0 Richter seismograph

Haiti’s Potential Hydrocarbon Deposits

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), issued in May 1980 a report under the Caribbean Development and Cooperation Committee (CDCC), describing the likelihood of large oil deposits in the Caribbean, including off-shore of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, see this. Haiti is also said to have trillions of dollars-worth of off-shore natural gas, see this.

These discoveries were likely made in the 1970s and 1980s, perhaps earlier, by US satellite imaging. US satellites have mapped the world for hydrocarbon resources already at least 50 years ago. Such information used to be available on internet – no longer.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has summoned the US ambassador to Moscow after Ukraine used American-supplied ATACMS missiles in an attack on the Crimean peninsula, resulting in numerous civilian casualties.

In a statement on Monday, the ministry said Ambassador Lynne Tracy had been presented with a demarche in connection with what it called “a new bloody crime of the Kiev regime patronized and armed by Washington,” referring to the Ukrainian shelling of Sevastopol the day before.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the Ukrainian attack occurred around noon local time on Sunday, involving five ATACMS missiles armed with cluster munitions, which are outlawed in more than 100 countries. Officials said four rockets had been destroyed in mid-air, while a fifth was damaged by air defenses, veered off course, and detonated over Sevastopol. Local authorities say the strike killed four people, including two children, and injured more than 150.

On his recent visit to Pyongyang, Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un signed a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement, before moving on to a warm welcome and a similar series of declarations in Vietnam.

Is this really a new level of relations between Moscow and Pyongyang?

Those who consider the visit simply a gesture of support for Pyongyang are missing important details. We now see the term “universal strategic partnership” being used, which implies the highest possible level of cooperation between countries. Compared to earlier descriptions of relations between Moscow and Pyongyang, this is a great leap forward.

When I first started researching this, I could hardly believe that it was true. A company in Switzerland known as “Final Spark” has constructed a bizarre hybrid biocomputer that combines lab-grown miniature human brains with conventional electronic circuits.  This approach saves an extraordinary amount of energy compared to normal computers, but there is a big problem.  The lab-grown miniature human brains keep wearing out and dying, and so scientists have to keep growing new ones to replace them.  Stem cells that are derived from human skin tissue are used to create the 16 spherical brain “organoids” that the system depends upon.  I realize that this sounds like something straight out of a really bad science fiction movie, but it is actually happening.

Hezbollah fighters take part in a military exercise in Aaramta, bordering northern Israel [File: Anwar Amro/AFP]

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed increasing concern over the escalating war of words and deadly border clashes between Israel’s military and Lebanon’s Hezbollah fighters.

UN peacekeepers are working to calm the situation and prevent “miscalculation” after both sides heightened their rhetoric and raised the possibility of full-scale conflict, he said on Friday.

“One rash move – one miscalculation – could trigger a catastrophe that goes far beyond the border and, frankly, beyond imagination,” Guterres told reporters. “Let’s be clear: The people of the region and the people of the world cannot afford Lebanon to become another Gaza.

Claire's Observations:  And you, Mr. Guterres, are thoroughly impotent to stop this, if that is what Israel wants to have happen, which is what they DO want to have happen, in order to claim the Litani River in Lebanon, which is currently only 5 KM away from the current Israeli border with Lebanon.

The country has watched as Democrats attacked former President Donald Trump with every civil and criminal legal angle they could concoct. These controversial  proceedings have left people from everyday working Americans to legal scholars in disbelief over what has happened.

Critics claim the judicial system is being used by leftists as if the U.S. were a third-world banana republic with the party in power attacking its opponents. The people’s faith in prosecutors, judges, and juries has taken a hit — some say, largely due to these legal attacks on Trump.

This lawfare, as dubbed by Republicans, is beyond acceptable and some Republican leaders are starting to fight back against the tide of judicial attacks.

From The Hill:
Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey (R) announced Thursday he intends to sue the state of New York over its “unconstitutional lawfare” against former President Trump.

“I will be filing suit against the State of New York for their direct attack on our democratic process through unconstitutional lawfare against President Trump,” Bailey wrote in a post on the social platform X.

Contra Zelensky’s grand claims, Ukraine is fighting for itself, not the West. In security terms, Ukraine never much mattered to America or Europe. The continent suffers economically from the war, but the U.S. has barely been affected. Although the conflict is a humanitarian disaster, it has caused fewer civilian casualties than Washington’s illegal invasion of Iraq and murderous support for Saudi Arabia’s attack on Yemen

These days there is much bloviation about the supposed danger of a victorious Putin turning into Hitler reborn. Unsurprisingly, perhaps, Zelensky promotes the most radical vision: “At the moment, it’s us, then Kazakhstan, then Baltic states, then Poland, then Germany. At least half of Germany.” Yet what would Moscow gain from such an attempt? A quarter century into his reign is a little late for Putin to try to amass an empire. He never said he wanted to reconstitute the Soviet Union, instead explicitly rebuffing such claims. Anyway, such a campaign is improbable if not impossible, given the cost of Russia’s war with Ukraine.

A fire at a battery storage facility in Otay Mesa is out — but the stubborn nature of the blaze has sparked opposition from some residents about the relative safety of at least three other battery projects that developers want to build in other parts of San Diego County.

Renewable energy supporters say battery facilities are essential to meet California’s goals to develop a carbon-free electric grid. State policymakers and battery companies say the risk of future fires will decrease over time, counting on technological improvements in battery chemistries and better designs at the facilities housing the batteries.

“My hope is that these projects continue to move forward, concerns are addressed and people really understand that we need these types of projects here in our region,” said Jason Anderson, CEO of CleanTech San Diego, a business association that promotes renewable energy growth.

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said on this week’s broadcast of FNC’s “Fox News Sunday” that President Joe Biden could be criminally prosecuted for the murder of nursing student Laken Riley if the Supreme Court does not rule there is presidential immunity.

Graham said, “The border is beyond broken. You have wars in Ukraine. You have the Mideast on fire. When it comes to enforcing the law, Joe Biden has been beyond reckless. He’s taken a parole statute that’s limited in nature and has given a million people parole when, on average, the Trump and [Obama] administrations gave 5,600 people parole. Laken Riley’s murderer was paroled because they had lack of capacity in El Paso.”

Of course, this is complete lawlessness, and it is being facilitated by government officials. Illegal aliens have no rights at all to vote in US elections.

Elon Musk weighed in on this corrupt practice earlier today.

Russia has deployed a new anti-drone robot named after Disney’s rubbish-collecting Wall-E.

The unmanned vehicle is designed to produce an invisible dome that jams aerial drone attacks and protects troops on the ground.

The machine uses electronic warfare blockers, Russian state TV said, in the latest advancement to keep away kamikaze drones that have been pivotal to the war for Ukraine.

The ground robot is fitted with a so-called “fumigator” electronic warfare system, which can disrupt the signal between a drone and its operator, often rendering unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) useless.

Russian officials have issued a statement confirming that multiple drone strikes overnight in eastern Syria, near the Iraqi border. The strikes killed multiple, and included an attack on a cargo truck traveling through the region, killing a member of Iraq’s Sayyed al-Shuhada Brigades.

The reports are that MQ-1C multi-purpose drones were used. The United States has not commented on its apparent involvement in the attacks. The US-led Global Anti-Terrorism Coalition denied that any drone operations took place, despite multiple reports of the attacks.

One of the strikes hit a group which the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights labeled “pro-Iran fighters,” though two of the slain were identified as Iraqis, and the third has not yet been identified.

The attacks took place in and around al-Bukamal, a key city at the border crossing between Syria and Iraq. That main strike was at a military base, causing an explosion that was heard throughout the area.

The White House has grown anxious about Benjamin Netanyahu’s upcoming address to a joint session of Congress, believing the Israeli prime minister could use the forum to criticize President Joe Biden for not supporting the retaliation against Hamas in Gaza enough.

The speech next month could create a diplomatically complicated and politically dicey spectacle for a president running for reelection. Fears among West Wing aides have grown in recent days as Netanyahu has made a series of public statements — including one in a video address delivered in English — accusing the administration of withholding more military aid than has been publicly disclosed.

“[Netanyahu’s] video this week was not helpful at all,” said one senior official, who was granted anonymity to speak candidly about internal deliberations. “And he could make it far worse up there in front of Congress.”

The Israeli defense minister Gallant is traveling to the US to discuss the next stage of the wars in Gaza and Lebanon. Washington is pushing for Tel Aviv to bring the conflicts to an end, while the Israeli prime minister Netanyahu is demanding more weapons from the US.

A prosecutor at the International Criminal Court is seeking an arrest warrant for Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant

Before leaving for his visit to the US, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant indicated that Tel Aviv may want to reduce operations in Gaza in preparation for a larger war with Hezbollah in Lebanon. Since Israel began its onslaught in Gaza, Israeli forces have traded tit-for-tat attacks with the militant group.

The fighting between Hezbollah and Israel has displaced hundreds of thousands, killed nearly 500 in Lebanon, and caused over two dozen deaths in Israel.

Claire's Observations; were I a betting person, I would almost be willing to bet that there will be more US troops on the ground in Israel right after the November election, no matter which candidate becomes President.

The Biden campaign is set to launch a $50 million ad campaign in June, targeting swing states with a focus on Donald Trump’s criminal conviction. This decision follows two major fundraisers, one in New York City raising $26 million and another in Los Angeles raising $28 million. Despite these substantial amounts, they fall short compared to Trump’s fundraising achievements, including $53 million raised within 24 hours after a New York City verdict and over $420 million in total since then.

The Biden campaign, which once enjoyed a financial edge, is now struggling to compete with Trump’s fundraising prowess. The planned ad buy will aim at Black, Hispanic, and Asian American voters, groups Biden has had difficulty securing. However, the strategy has drawn criticism for potentially wasting funds on a theme that may not resonate with the electorate.

Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) has come under fire for his remarks on recent Supreme Court rulings related to gun control, particularly those concerning bump stocks and the Second Amendment. During an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union”, Murphy expressed alarm that the court’s decisions could hinder Congress from implementing basic gun control measures, such as mandatory background checks and removing AR-15s from public streets.

Murphy’s comments regarding the Republican administration’s initial bump stock ban and the Supreme Court’s subsequent ruling to overturn it have sparked controversy. Critics argue that Murphy misinterprets the issue, noting that the Supreme Court’s decision was based on the overreach of a federal agency, not a direct attack on the Second Amendment.

In his effort to prevent future tragedies like Sandy Hook, Murphy has advocated for stricter gun laws. However, opponents argue that his proposed laws would not enhance safety and might even reduce it. They highlight that personal firearms are used to prevent crimes between 500,000 and 2.8 million times a year, suggesting that more restrictive laws could leave citizens vulnerable.

Boeing faces a critical challenge as engineers race to resolve multiple issues with the company’s Starliner spacecraft, which has delayed the return of two NASA astronauts from the International Space Station (ISS). The astronauts, Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, were initially scheduled to return on June 13 but remain stranded due to ongoing technical problems.

The Starliner, docked to the ISS’s Harmony module, is experiencing significant issues, including five helium leaks and thruster malfunctions. These problems have led to a third delay in the astronauts’ return trip, with a reported 45-day window to safely bring them back to Earth.

The most pressing concern is the limited fuel available in the Harmony module, which narrows the safe return window. The thruster failures and helium leaks discovered during the 25-hour flight to the ISS have compounded the challenges faced by Boeing engineers. Mark Nappi, Boeing’s Starliner program manager, acknowledged the issues, stating, “We’ve learned that our helium system is not performing as designed.”

I think we are on the cusp of a major escalation in the war in Ukraine, with U.S. assets likely to be targeted in the coming days. It is one thing for Ukraine to hit military targets inside Russia, but Ukraine’s attack with U.S. supplied missiles today on tourists sunbathing on the beaches of Sevastopol breached a Russian-redline that is likely to provoke a significant Russian response, which will include targeting U.S. reconnaissance aircraft operating in the Black Sea and the Baltic Ocean. And that is for starters.

Here is the Russian Ministry of Defense announcement about the attack:

The Ukrainian military launched several US-made ATACMS long-range missiles armed with highly controversial cluster munitions on Russia’s Crimea on Sunday, resulting in numerous civilian casualties, the Defense Ministry in Moscow has said.

The strike was first reported by Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev. He said that the attack killed at least three people, including two children. The death toll later rose to four. According to Russia’s Health Ministry, 124 people were injured, including 27 children.

While Washington says it’s only halted one arms shipment, it has also altered procedures for military aid to Israel in recent months by Will Porter

The Joe Biden administration recently ended a policy which expedited arms transfers to Tel Aviv, a US official told the Times of Israel. The comments come after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused the United States of withholding lethal aid amid the months-long onslaught in Gaza.

The unnamed American official revealed the policy shift to TOI on Sunday, explaining that while US weapons are currently being sent at a “normal pace,” Biden had scaled back the fast-tracked shipments that were more common earlier in the Gaza war

Claire's Observations:  Forgive me, but what is "normal pace weapons delivery" to a country committing genocide of its minority residents?!?

There is a shipment of 3,000 munitions for "Israel" personally halted by US President Joe Biden, and Israeli Security Minister Yoav Gallant is in Washington in an attempt to resolve this issue, Israeli media reported on Sunday.

Earlier this week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused the US in a video statement of "withholding weapons and ammunitions to Israel." In response, US officials said they were not aware of what the Israeli premier was referring to, and White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby said Netanyahu's remarks were "perplexing to say the least, certainly disappointing."

Nir Dvori, the military affairs correspondent for the Israeli Channel 12, highlighted that more than 400 weapon shipments have arrived in "Israel" by air and sea since the start of the war, as per the Israeli security and military establishment's figures.

According to Dvori, in the initial months of the war, the US shipments arrived at a very high pace, corresponding with the use of munitions in Gaza and other areas. He noted that later, there had been a slowdown, not a stoppage in the delivery of such shipments.

Britain is experimenting with new drone technology that Israel’s military uses in Gaza. The British army conducted exercises on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire to test a drone made by Israeli tech firm Xtend in December.

Hundreds of Xtend’s small drones are being used by Israeli forces in Gaza. They enable soldiers to launch grenades and scan tunnels and buildings without having to risk their own lives.

Xtend’s drones are being used for the first time in the war and the company is reported to be collaborating with an Israeli military unit, the Yiftah, to develop “special weapons”.

A “warhead has been developed that is mounted on these drones thus transforming them into a weapon (suicide drone)”, one report notes.

After the second world war British planners were confronted by the outbreak of a Jewish uprising in Palestine, which the UK had run since securing a ‘mandate’ from the then League of Nations in 1922.

This uprising led to a series of momentous events that shape the present-day Middle East: the British decision in February 1947 to withdraw from Palestine, the UN’s decree in November 1947 to partition the territory, the Jewish declaration of the state of Israel in May 1948 and the first Arab–Israeli war, in which Israeli forces annexed much of Palestine by December of that year.
