Thought for the day

"Everything went strictly ‘by the book,’ using means that were permitted by the constitution. At first there were ‘emergency decrees’ by the president of the Reich, and later a bill was passed by a two-thirds majority of the Reichstag giving the government unlimited legislative powers, perfectly in accordance with the rules for changing the constitution." -- Sebastian Haffner, Defying Hitler (paperback, Kindle, audiobook)

The Virginia Democratic Party is instructing activists to include deceased citizens and “bad” addresses when generating voter contact lists, The Federalist has learned.

A pivotal tool Virginia Dems use to target voters for their ballot harvesting and get-out-the-vote efforts is VoteBuilder, an online database of all registered voters in Virginia operated by the Virginia Democratic Party and the Democratic National Committee. In the words of the Virginia Democrats themselves, “this database contains the names and other important information about registered voters – information that we can use to target likely voters for Democratic campaigns.”

Democrat activists who use VoteBuilder can look up specific information about each registered voter and group them into likely Democrat voter outreach lists, which they then use for GOTV outreach, including phone banking and ballot harvesting.

On Thursday morning, the Biden Administration announced that WNBA player Brittney Griner had been freed from a Russian prison in exchange for Viktor Bout, a notorious Russian arms dealer who was known to western intelligence agencies as the “merchant of death.”

The seeming lopsided trade was made worse by the reality that American citizen Paul Whelan, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps, was left behind in Russia.

For several months, the Biden Administration had been publicly indicating their intent to try to secure the release of both Griner and Whelan in exchange for Mr. Bout, before announcing Thursday that they had secured Griner in a one to one exchange.

Did the Biden Administration choose Griner over Whelan?

Although Biden officials, and the president himself, have denied that was the case, several pieces of evidence seem to indicate that Griner was indeed prioritized over Whelan, and that Moscow allowed the Biden Administration to choose either individual for the one to one swap.

Study links ultra-processed foods to dementia and cognitive decline by Luke Gentile, Social Media Producer for Washington Examiner

GNN Note – Ultra processed foods are loaded with empty calories, fat, sodium and carbohydrates. What more does a person need to know about the adverse effects on health? None of these items are healthy and some are down right dangerous to our system. / END

Ultra-processed foods might go easy on a person’s taste buds and wallet, but a new study now suggests they are linked to dementia and cognitive decline.

The study, titled “Association Between Consumption of Ultraprocessed Foods and Cognitive Decline,” was published Monday in JAMA Neurology and reported that people who consume ultra-processed foods as 20% of their daily calories could be at a greater risk for cognitive decline.

The Republican Party of Arizona has officially called for RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel to step down.

The organization’s executive committee passed a unanimous resolution on Thursday urging McDaniel to resign. The committee called on the RNC to elect new leadership in 2023. According to the resolution, McDaniel had publicly told members of the RNC that she would not seek another term.

This comes after the Republican Party’s disappointing performance in the midterm elections, that ended with Senator Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) winning over Herschel Walker (R-Ga.) in Georgia’s Senate runoff election. Warnock’s victory gave Democrats a 51-seat majority in the Senate.

McDaniel is also currently facing challenges from the MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, as well from Conservative Attorney Harmeet Dhillon. Both are critical of her and have officially put in their bids for the position.

A federal grand jury indicted a current U.S. Department of Homeland Security agent and a former agent in connection with an alleged Chinese government-sponsored scheme to stalk, harass and spy on U.S.-based Chinese critics of Beijing, the Justice Department said.

Craig Miller, a 15-year DHS employee, and Derrick Taylor, a retired DHS agent working as a private investigator, are accused of accessing and providing information about the Chinese activists from a restricted government database to two other individuals who then used the records to target the victims, according to the indictment.

Miller and Taylor were arrested in June. Each faces one count of obstruction of justice. Taylor faces an additional charge of making a false statement to the FBI in connection with the investigation.

A former conservative activist turned progressive was the Democrats’ main witness for a Thursday hearing involving May’s unprecedented leak of a Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade. The problem is that the witness — Rev. Robert Schenck — had been deemed untrustworthy by the Supreme Court in the past.

The Daily Caller reported that the Democratic House Judiciary Committee majority brought in Schenck as a witness after he accused Justice Samuel Alito, who wrote the Roe ruling, of leaking decisions in 2014, though the high court in 1996 deemed Schenck “not entirely credible.”

The outlet noted: “Thursday’s hearing, entitled “Undue Influence: ‘Operation Higher Court’ and Politicking at SCOTUS” comes as a report of the allegations that Alito leaked information to a couple who had contact with Schenck. The reverend is slated to be the Democrats’ star witness during the hearing despite the Supreme Court’s conclusion that Schenck was an unreliable witness. In the 1996 case, Schenck v. Pro-Choice Network of Western New York, Schenck’s twin brother, Paul Schenck, was at the center of a lawsuit regarding attempts to “provoke” an escort outside an abortion clinic, according to the Buffalo News. Schenck was a witness on his brother’s behalf.”

This flight path isn’t a blast for some Jersey residents.

Mysterious ground-shaking booming sounds that repeatedly rattled New Jersey homes this week were likely caused by supersonic testing, according to the Navy.

The bizarre earthquake-like vibrations — felt most intensely in the state’s southern section Monday — came as the military branch experimented with an ultra high-speed aircraft near the Jersey shore, nj.com reported.

Officials at the Patuxent River’s Naval Air Station were “executing supersonic test points” above the Atlantic Ocean roughly three miles from the Garden State’s coastline, a Navy spokesman told the outlet.

During the test, Navy flew the aircraft — which moves faster than the speed of sound — in an airspace known as the “Test Track,” the rep said.

The sonic booms likely triggered the unsettling ground shaking, which baffled dozens of residents after there proved to be no seismic activity in the area.

Webmaster addition: I thought supersonic flight was banned over land below 30,000 MSL!

The nonbinary Biden administration official who oversees nuclear waste policy was charged with grand larceny in Nevada, the second time they have been accused of theft in three months, according to state court records.

Samuel Brinton, the Department of Energy's (DOE) deputy assistant secretary for spent fuel and waste disposition, was charged Thursday with grand larceny of an item valued between $1,200 and $5,000 by Las Vegas prosecutors. Records showed that an arrest warrant was issued for Brinton, one of the few federal officials to ever identify as nonbinary.

Few other details were provided in the records and the Clark County, Nevada, district attorney's office declined to comment on the matter.

Vladimir Putin said Russia may consider formally adding the possibility of a preventive nuclear first strike to disarm an opponent to its military doctrine, just days after warning that the risk of atomic war is rising.

“We’re thinking about this,” the Russian president told reporters after a summit in Kyrgyzstan. “If we are talking about a disarming strike, perhaps we should think about using the approaches of our American partners,” he said, citing what he called US strategies to use high-accuracy missiles for a preventive strike.

The comments were Putin’s second on the nuclear issue this week. On Wednesday, he said the risk of atomic warfare is rising and called Russia’s arsenal “a deterrent factor” in conflicts. Russia’s doctrine currently envisions using nuclear weapons as a last resort in the event of a threat to the state’s existence.

The US and its allies have denounced Putin for what they call nuclear saber-rattling over his invasion of Ukraine. Russia blames the West for raising the issue first, although Kremlin officials began the threats.
