Twelve of the world’s wealthiest billionaires produce more greenhouse gas emissions from their yachts, private jets, mansions and financial investments than the annual energy emissions of 2m homes, research shared exclusively with the Guardian reveals.

The tycoons include the Amazon boss, Jeff Bezos, the Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich, the tech billionaires Bill Gates, Larry Page and Michael Dell, the inventor and social media company owner Elon Musk and the Mexican business magnate Carlos Slim.

Analysis by Oxfam and US researchers of their luxury purchases, which include superyachts, private jets, cars, helicopters and palatial mansions, combined with the impact of their financial investments and shareholdings reveals that they account for almost 17m tonnes of CO2 and equivalent greenhouse gas emissions annually.

This is the same as the CO2 and equivalent emissions from powering 2.1m homes or the emissions from 4.6 coal-fired power plants over a year, according to conversion data from the US Environmental Protection Agency.

We are embroiled in two wars, in Europe and the Middle East, which have increasingly serious consequences for our living conditions and security.

How did we decline so far so fast?

I would say by design.

Dr Hudson in the interview specifically mentioned the Korean War as the beginning of America’s trade deficit. He is not allowed to mention that the decision to give north Korea to Joe Stalin made the war and our rapid economic decline  possible. That and the addition of 19 million people since 1940.

I have mentioned before Nobel Prize winning economist Wasily Leontief whose empirical study of the US economy proved that American wages were a third higher than Europe’s because we added value with skilled labor to abundant natural resources. Of course when our population went past 150 million in 1950 we were supposed to cut wages so we could buy natural resources from foreigners. Instead we printed I Owe You Nothing Federal Reserve Notes so foreigners who accepted our worthless paper were paying us to occupy their nation and let us to essentially acquire their exports for free.

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said on Monday that he had arrived in Kiev, adding that the United States will continue to support Ukraine.

Many high-ranking politicians from the European Union are out of touch with reality when it comes to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Saturday.  

Unlike other EU countries, Hungary has refused to send weapons or other lethal aid to Ukraine, insisting that it is focused on finding a peaceful resolution to the hostilities. 

“A significant part of the European political elite has practically lost common sense. Some people imagine themselves in Fortnite,” Szijjarto said at a political event in Budapest, referring to the popular multiplayer video game.

“They suffer from military psychosis, and, for some mysterious reason, believe that arms shipments can bring peace.” 

Yair Netanyahu, the son of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, sparked backlash Saturday night when he posted content on his Telegram channel criticizing the IDF, the courts, and the media, coinciding with his father's press conference.
