Allegations that a Polish man was plotting with Moscow to assassinate Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky are a sign that Kiev’s Western backers want to “liquidate” the Ukrainian leader, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has claimed.
On Thursday, Polish officials reported the arrest of a man who is accused of trying to provide sensitive information to the Russian intelligence services. The information could have been used in an attempt to kill Zelensky, Warsaw and Kiev have claimed.

“An attempt on the life of the chief Banderite [Zelensky] in Poland? That is truly serious,” Medvedev, who serves as deputy head of the Russian Security Council, wrote on social media on Friday in response to the claims.

“It may be the first piece of evidence that people in the West have made a decision to liquidate him. Be afraid, clown!”

Russia has no intention of ceasing hostilities with Ukraine even if the two countries engage in peace talks, as Kiev has proven itself to be an unreliable actor, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said.

In an interview with Russian media on Friday, the diplomat stressed that Moscow does not trust the leadership in Kiev.

“We have said that we are ready for the negotiations, but – unlike the Istanbul story – we will not make any pauses in the fighting during the negotiations. The process must go on,” he said.

"We urge anyone who reads this to publicly oppose sending weapons to Israel as long as this onslaught continues."

On March 25 the two of us, an orthopedic surgeon and a trauma surgeon, traveled to the Gaza Strip to work at Gaza European Hospital in Khan Younis. We were immediately overwhelmed by the overflown sewage and the distinct smell of gunpowder in the air. We made the short journey from the Rafah crossing to Khan Younis, where Gaza European Hospital stands as one of the last remaining semi-functional hospitals for the 2.5 million human beings—half of them children—in the Gaza Strip. As humanitarian surgeons we thought we had seen all manner of cruelty in the world, but neither one of us has ever experienced anything like what we found when we arrived in Gaza.

We exited the van into a sea of children, all shorter and thinner than they ought to have been. Even over their screams of joy at meeting new foreigners, the snowmobile-like hum of Israeli drones could be heard overhead. It quickly became background noise, an omnipresent reminder that violence and death can rain down on anyone at any time in this besieged and ransacked territory.

Our limited sleep was constantly interrupted by explosions that shook the hospital’s walls and popped our ears, even well after the United Nations Security Council declared a cease-fire must be implemented. When warplanes screamed overhead, everyone braced for a particularly loud and powerful explosion. The timing of these attacks always coincided with “iftar,” when families in this overwhelmingly Muslim county broke the daily fast of Ramadan and were most vulnerable.

We as Americans must acknowledge that we are responsible for this crime against humanity, now in its seventh month and unfolding in full view of the entire world.

We walked through the wards and immediately found evidence of horrifying violence deliberately directed at civilians and even children. A three-year-old boy shot in the head, a 12-year-old girl shot through the chest, an ICU nurse shot through the abdomen, all by some of the best-trained marksmen in the world. Every square inch of the hospital’s floor is taken up with makeshift tents where displaced families live, desperate to find some semblance of safety. They are the lucky several hundred who get to live indoors, unlike the tens of thousands sheltering outside on the hospital’s grounds.

As we got to work we were shocked by the violence inflicted on people. Incredibly powerful explosives ripped apart rock, floors, and walls and threw them through human bodies, penetrating skin with waves of dirt and debris. With the environment literally embedded in our patients’ bodies we have found infection control to be impossible. No amount of medical care could ever compensate for the damage being inflicted here.

As humanitarian trauma surgeons we have both seen incredible suffering. Collectively, we were present at Ground Zero on 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, the Boston Marathon bombing, and the 2010 earthquake in Haiti on the first day of these disasters. We have worked in the deprivation of southern Zimbabwe and the horrors of the war in Ukraine. Together we have worked on more than 40 surgical missions in developing countries on three continents in our combined 57 years of volunteering. This long experience taught us that there was no greater pain as a humanitarian surgeon than being unable to provide needed care to a patient.

But that was before coming to Gaza. Now we know the pain of being unable to treat a child who will slowly die, but also alone, because she is the only surviving member of an entire extended family. We have not had the heart to tell these children how their families died: burned until they resembled blistered hotdogs more than human beings, shredded to pieces such that they can only be buried in mass graves, or simply entombed in their former apartment buildings to die slowly of asphyxia and sepsis.

Claire's Observations:  Aren't you just so danged proud to be an American right now, understanding  that your tax dollars paid for the bombs and bullets which have killed and/or maimed these Palestinians for life?!?

You, my brothers and sisters, are complicit by your silence here, which is why, as a born-American who loves this country, I damn the stupidity of Hamas for their October 7th attack; I damn Israel's genocidal response to that; and I damn the foreign policy decisions through which the US continues to enable Israel in this genocide

I cannot and will not be silent.

I urge ALL Americans who understand that this genocide is a crime against humanity, to peacefully contact your congressional representatives, and  calmly  express your displeasure at what Israel is doing, with the US enabling it with our weapons.

And FYI, here is a listing of all Congressional members, to make this a little easier for you.

Iran’s unprecedented attack on Israeli military sites on April 13-14 signals a tectonic shift in the regional balance of power. While the media remains preoccupied with the number of outdated Iranian drones that were shot down during the onslaught, military analysts are far more focused on the way that Iran’s ballistic missiles cut through Israel’s vaunted air defense systems striking sites at the Nevatim and Negev Air Bases.

What the operation proved is that Israel’s “deterrents supremacy” is largely a fiction based on overly optimistic assumptions about the performance of their air defense capability. When put to the test, these systems failed to stop many of the larger and more destructive ballistic missiles from hitting their targets. This, in turn, revealed that Israel’s most heavily-defended and critically-important military sites remain overly-exposed to enemy attack.

More importantly, any future attack will not be announced days in advance nor will Iran attempt to avoid high-value targets or heavy casualties. Instead, they will use their most lethal and state-of-the-art hypersonic missiles to inflict as much death and destruction on Israel as is required to make sure that the Jewish state is unable to lift a hand against Iran in the future. In short, what Iran’s historic attack on Israel shows is that any future provocation by Israel will be met by an immediate and overwhelming response that will leave Israel battered, bloodied and broken. This is an excerpt from a recent article by former weapons inspector Scott Ritter:

There is a world war around us, but no one out there is brave enough to outline or articulate what this war is all about – and what exactly is the dividing line that splits the world into two. Iran unveiled this line in the clearest fashion last Saturday.

The Zionized North that failed to condemn the Israeli attack on the Iranian embassy in Damascus – or any other past Israeli aggression against Iran, Syria or any other Muslims – has put itself on the line to defend Israel against Iran’s missiles.

One wonders if America, Britain and France are so good in stopping cruise missiles and drones, why don’t they impose a No Fly Zone over Gaza and put an end to the Israeli broad-daylight genocide on the ground? If the Zionized North is so good in stopping Iranian drones, why has it failed to help Ukraine repel the Russians drones?

The answer is simple. The Zionized North subscribes to the Zionist reckless unethical philosophy. It is driven by greed and cares solely for the interests of the very few.

Israel and Hezbollah: Fears of escalation after flurry of attacks

By David Gritten,BBC News

Reuters A destroyed vehicle stands outside a damaged community centre in Arab al-Aramshe, northern Israel, the day after a Hezbollah drone and missile attack (18 April 2024)Reuters

Israeli soldiers were wounded when a building they were in was hit in a Hezbollah attack

Cross-border fighting between Israeli forces and the Lebanese group Hezbollah have intensified in recent days, raising fears of a further escalation.

Hezbollah announced on Thursday the deaths of two fighters, after the Israeli military said it had struck sites in southern and eastern Lebanon.

On Wednesday, 14 Israeli soldiers were wounded in a missile and drone attack.

Hezbollah claimed it was a response to strikes a day earlier that the Israeli military said killed two commanders.

There have been exchanges of fire almost every day since the day after the start of the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza in October. Hezbollah has said it is acting in support of the Palestinian group. Both are backed by Iran and proscribed as terrorist organisations by Israel, the UK and other countries.

Claire's Observations:  Citing the Code of Hammurabi , Gandhi once said, " An eye for an eye; a tooth for a tooth; and suddenly, everyone is blind and toothless."

This insanity, driven by both Israeli territorial ambition, and Palestinian's right to exist in what was, before the Balfour Declaration, their homeland, has to be negotiated, because it most likely cannot be "won" with  bombs, and bullets.

SOME adults in the room, on the sides of both Israel and Palestinians have to stop this,  because if they do not, the entire region may well become a war zone.

Unfortunately, that seems to be Israel's "Master Plan", including dragging the US into the conflagration with "American boots on the ground" defending Israel.

Russia, just this week, has said that it has a "Defense Pact" with Iran, and will be providing weapons, aircraft, and training to Iran.

This could very quickly escalate into a full-on US war with Russia, and heaven only knows what Israel is capable of doing in terms of a "false flag" attack on the eve of Passover, to get things started;  I am literally praying that doesn't happen, but it is not unfeasible, given Israel's military history.

Former MI Senator Patrick Colbeck is one of the smartest and kindest individuals I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. When speaking with Patrick, it’s easy to see why so many people in Michigan and across the nation respect and trust him. Having been involved in politics for over 15 years, I’ve met a lot of people who puff out their chests and talk about what needs to be done to save our elections from being corrupted by people with bad intentions—Patrick Colbeck isn’t one of those people.  He doesn’t boast about his tireless efforts to protect our elections; instead, Patrick humbly puts his head down and goes to work, assessing potential vulnerabilities in our elections and identifying ways to correct them.  Unfortunately, because Patrick Colbeck dared to question the integrity of the voting machines in 2020, which most Americans have trusted since they were first used in Michigan elections, he has become the target of Democrats and their allies in the leftist media. Patrick is also the author of “The 2020 Coup—What Happened and What We Can Do.”

The F-35 fighter jet program will cost taxpayers more than $2 trillion over its lifetime, cementing its place as one of the most expensive weapons programs in U.S. history, according to new estimates from the Government Accountability Office (GAO), an independent government watchdog.

The new price tag represents a dramatic jump from a 2018 estimate that set the program’s total cost at $1.7 trillion. Most of the bump comes from projected sustainment costs, which increased by 44 percent to a cool $1.58 trillion over the lifetime of the program. The Pentagon also extended the projected life of the plane to 2088 rather than the previous goal of 2077.

The news comes as Congress considers President Joe Biden’s budget proposal for next year, which asks for a record $895 billion in military funding. The spending package is separate from the White House’s request for $106 billion to fund weapons transfers to and security cooperation with Israel, Taiwan and Ukraine, which is still languishing in the House after passing the Senate earlier this year.

Of course, it’s not all bad news on the financial front. The Pentagon has brought down the estimated lifetime cost per F-35 by simply buying more jets and reducing the number of flight hours they will be expected to perform each year, according to the GAO.

But this is less than ideal on the war-fighting side of the equation. All three versions of the F-35 continue to fall far short of their target “mission capable rates,” a term of art referring to the percentage of time that any given aircraft is actually ready for battle. In 2023, the average F-35A was only in flying shape about 52% of the time — far short of the 90% target set by the Air Force, the GAO reports.

Claire's Observations: I hate war, and consider it a catastrophic failure of imagination.

That being said, when war happens, the American military needs the "best of the best" in terms of equipment and weaponry.

(Sigh) So, why does this keep happening with US military aircraft and weaponry?!?  You can't successfully fight an enemy with an aircraft which is flight worthy on 52% of the time, and with many problems left unsolved so far.

The current execs at Lockheed-Martin need to be excoriated for this, named and shamed,  and this game of military competitive bidding needs to be opened wide up to engineers, mechanics, and scientists who can actually "walk their talk",and create dependable craft which DON'T cost $2 trillion a pop,and can do their job.

For all the billions spent on defence after World War II, where the hell are the good reliable products to show for it?!?

A year after Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced 34 felony charges against Donald Trump, the former president's trial is about to begin. Yet people are still arguing about how to describe the case. This debate is not merely rhetorical. It reflects the disconnect between the counts that Trump faces, all of which allege falsification of business records, and the essence of his crime as Bragg sees it, which is hiding negative information from voters.

"Although it has long been referred to as the 'hush money' case," says CNN legal analyst Norman Eisen, "that is wrong. We should call it an 'election interference' trial going forward."

The reason people call it a "hush money case," of course, is that it would not exist but for the $130,000 that Trump lawyer Michael Cohen paid porn star Stormy Daniels shortly before the 2016 presidential election to keep her from talking about her alleged affair with Trump. But Eisen, who served as co-counsel to the House Judiciary Committee during Trump's first impeachment, joins Bragg in arguing that the significance of the case transcends those tawdry details.

"We allege falsification of business records to the end of keeping information away from the electorate," Bragg said in a January interview with NY1. "It's an election interference case." That sounds important, and it calls to mind the federal charges based on Trump's audacious attempts to remain in office after he lost the 2020 presidential election. But this characterization, which Bragg started emphasizing after Special Counsel Jack Smith unveiled the federal indictment last August, is hard to take seriously.

Two articles of impeachment against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas were killed in the Senate on Wednesday after the upper chamber deemed the articles of impeachment unconstitutional.

The impeachment trial proceedings have been followed by warnings from Republicans that vulnerable Senate Democrats would face heavy consequences in the November general elections for their votes.

In a joint statement, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Senate Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA), House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) and Republican conference Chairwoman (R-NY) said, “The American people will hold Senate Democrats accountable for this shameful display.”

Republican Conference Chairman John Barrasso (R-WY) also made a statement, saying, “Every Democrat will pay a heavy price in November for willfully refusing to end this border crisis.”

“History will not be forgiving of Democrats’ decision to table this hearing. The American people will hold Mayorkas accountable at the ballot box this November,” Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KN) said in his statement.

Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has called for the execution of Palestinians to make room in Israel’s overcrowded prisons.

Ben Gvir, leader of the hardline Jewish Power party, said he was happy that the Israeli government approved a construction plan to expand prisons but said the best solution would be the death penalty.

“The additional construction will allow the prison service to take in more terrorists, and will bring a partial solution to the prison crisis that exists in the Shabak,” Ben Gvir wrote on X. “The death penalty for terrorists is the right solution to the incarceration problem, until then – glad that the government approved the proposal I brought.”

According to Middle East Eye, the Israeli Public Defender’s Office published a report that said some Israeli prisons have been declared in a state of emergency due to “intolerable overcrowding” and poor conditions. Thousands of Palestinians have been detained in Gaza since October 7, and many have reported severe abuse.

As Israel’s national security minister, Ben Gvir oversees the Israeli Prison Service. He has been pushing for a bill that would mandate the death penalty for Palestinians found guilty of terrorism in Israeli courts.

Ben Gvir is also in charge of Israeli police and border police. Back in February, he said Israeli forces should be able to shoot Palestinian women and children in Gaza who get too close to the border. “We cannot have women and children getting close to the border… anyone who gets near must get a bullet [in his head],” he said.

Claire's Observations:  Somewhere in the deepest bowels of hell, Mengele and Hitler are laughing, dancing, and high-fiving each other, saying "The absolutely didn't get it, did they?!?  After all those centuries of persecution, false accusations, and evictions from their homelands, now they do the same thing to the Palestinians over one of the most contested, tiny pieces of real estate on the whole planet. And they are creating a massive attempted genocide against all Palestinians who are still breathing!!  This is fantastic!!"

(Ahem)  To the Israeli leadership whose underlings are reading this site, it would be very good right now to remember the following;  Those who do not understand history, are doomed to repeat it."

Please look at the  history of your own people and learn, I beg of you.  Historically, borders and countries ebb and flow.   I would love to see Israel grow and prosper, but NOT through a genocide which decreases your own chances of surviving as a country.

In this first battle of the American Revolution, Massachusetts colonists defied British authority, outnumbered and outfought the Redcoats, and embarked on a lengthy war to earn their independence.

How It Ended

American victory. The British marched into Lexington and Concord intending to suppress the possibility of rebellion by seizing weapons from the colonists. Instead, their actions sparked the first battle of the Revolutionary War. The colonists’ intricate alarm system summoned local militia companies, enabling them to successfully counter the British threat.

In Context

Thomas Gage was appointed Royal Governor of Massachusetts in 1774 and tasked by the British Parliament with stamping out rising unrest caused by restrictive British policies. Gage inflamed tensions between the colonies and the mother country and practiced harsh enforcement of British law. He drafted the Coercive Acts, a series of laws intended to punish colonists for deeds of defiance against the King, such as the Boston Tea Party.

By April 1775, Gage was facing the threat of outright rebellion. He hoped to prevent violence by ordering the seizure of weapons and powder being stored in Concord, Massachusetts, twenty miles northwest of Boston. But he underestimated the courage and determination of the colonists. Patriot spies got wind of Gage’s plan. On the evening of April 18, Paul Revere and other riders raised the alarm that British regulars were on their way to Concord. Minute Men and militias rushed to confront them early on April 19. Though it is uncertain who actually fired the first shot that day, it reverberated throughout history. Eight years of war followed, and those who stood their ground against Gage’s troops eventually earned independence from Britain and became citizens of the democratic United States of America.

Webmaster addition:

Short version: The government tried to seize the peoples' guns. The people shot the government. This is why we have a Second Amendment!

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed."

"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms. . . disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. . . Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." -- Thomas Jefferson's "Commonplace Book," 1774-1776, quoting from On Crimes and Punishment, by criminologist Cesare Beccaria, 1764

"When any nation mistrusts its citizens with guns it is sending a clear message. It no longer trusts its citizens with guns because such a government has evil plans." -- George Washington

"We The people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the Courts, not to overthrow the Constitition but to overthrow the men who would pervert the Constitution." -- Abraham Lincoln

"You won't get gun control by disarming law-abiding citizens. There's only one way to get real gun control: Disarm the thugs and the criminals, lock them up and if you don't actually throw away the key, at least lose it for a long time... It's a nasty truth, but those who seek to inflict harm are not fazed by gun controllers. I happen to know this from personal experience." -- Ronald Reagan
