The 2022 midterms were the first major elections to occur in California after the Golden State approved all-mail voting in September 2021. Under the new system, all registered voters in the state are automatically mailed a ballot for each election cycle (Californians can still opt to vote in person if they wish). But during California’s first foray into mass mail-in balloting for the 2022 midterms, 226,250 mail ballots were rejected and more than 10 million remain unaccounted for, according to a new report by the Public Interest Legal Foundation.

Per the report, the most common reason for rejection of mail ballots in the 2022 cycle was late arrival (48 percent of rejects). Under California law, mail ballots must be postmarked no later than Election Day and arrive at the tabulation center within seven days. For the state’s 2022 general elections, more than 57,000 ballots arrived after Nov. 15 (the seven-day mark). Largely as a result of the switch to mail-in balloting, more than 57,000 Californians were disenfranchised. Such voter disenfranchisement is sure to continue as long as the state keeps its vote-by-mail system.

Disinformation purveyor and former CNN anchor Brian Stelter recently hosted a panel titled “The Clear and Present Danger of Disinformation” at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos on Tuesday. Instead of discussing genuine truth-seeking, the panel was far more preoccupied with lamenting about Trump, demonizing the political right, and rebranding censorship as “public safety.”

While many of the panelists claimed they wanted to protect free speech and expression, their policy prescriptions for combating disinformation showed us very clearly that this wasn’t the case. According to panelist and New York Times journalist Arthur Gregg Sulzberger, “the disinformation question maps basically to every other challenge that we’re grappling with as a society, and certainly the most existential among them.”

What is Sulzberger’s answer to the “existential” disinformation “challenge”? Censorship.

The Arizona state Senate Education Committee met Wednesday to consider SB 1001, The Given Name Act, a one-page, 21-line bill that states that any individual involved in the Arizona public education system would be required to use the pronoun associated with a student’s biological sex unless the student’s public school or charter school received other instructions from the student’s parent or parents.

No public or charter school staff member, full time or contractor, would be able to use alternative pronouns for a student without the written permission of the student’s parents.

The legislation would reinforce parents’ ultimate authority in deciding what names their children should and should not be called by staff members, providing a stopgap via parental approval before public districts attempt to treat or affirm gender dysphoria with only the minor’s limited understanding of what they are going through.

Plans to compensate black Americans for slavery-era sins have been around for decades. They've gained traction in recent months as ever more left-leaning states and cities launch local inquiries into their own atonement schemes.

San Francisco made headlines this week with a proposal for $5 million payouts to every longtime black resident, and other plans to address generations of economic losses suffered by the minority group.

The announcement provoked uproar, with many observers balking at the eye-watering sum and immediately asking what the scheme would cost in its entirety, who foots the bill, and whether it would hurt California's economy.

Meanwhile, the Illinois city of Evanston has been helping residents who suffered from long-forgotten racist housing policies. Its grants have paid off a few mortgages, but also stoked divisions between winners and losers.

Against this backdrop, DailyMail.com takes a look at the reparations debate, and finds out whether small-scale efforts in liberal enclaves could ever amount to a national bid to tackle racism's legacy once and for all.

Freshman New York Rep. George Santos has been caught making false representations about his background, education, and work experience during his successful congressional campaign, but a new report indicates that the Republican also fabricated a story about his mother surviving the Sept. 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center.

Santos’s campaign website features a section about his family background, which includes a claim that his mother was working in the World Trade Center when planes flew into the towers.

"George’s mother was in her office in the South Tower on September 11, 2001, when the horrific events of that day unfolded. She survived the tragic events on September 11th, but she passed away a few years later when she lost her battle to cancer," the website says.

FBI Director Christopher Wray spoke at the World Economic Forum's meeting in Davos on Tuesday, accompanying his private meeting with banking leaders with a panel on cybersecurity. The panel on national security and cybersecurity focused on the conflict in Ukraine, using that war as a lens through which to discuss partnerships between tech companies and government, AI, and autonomous vehicles.

"The sophistication of the private sector is improving, and particularly important, the level of collaboration between the private sector and the government. Especially the FBI has I think made significant strides. We are focused on looking at cyber attacks," Wray said. His comments are in-line with WEF founder Klaus Schwab's ideas on how leaders should "master the future" through public and private partnerships.

"We did see, as the conflict erupted and increased effort by the Russian intelligence services, which have been conducting malicious cyber activists against infrastructure for years," he continued. For Wray, any tech that is beneficial in US hands is somewhat terrifying when in the hands of American enemies. This he said specifically with regard to China's AI programs, saying they are the biggest hackers in the world.

FACT 2: A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) study of another COVID-19 outbreak in July 2021 found that 74% of cases were fully vaccinated.2

FACT 3: A Harvard study investigating COVID-19 cases across 68 countries and across 2,947 counties in the U.S. found “no significant signaling of COVID-19 cases decreasing with higher percentages of population fully vaccinated.”3

It's hard to remember now, but Germany was until recently considered a global leader on climate change. But with huge machines grinding up its landscape for coal, devouring entire villages and forests, Germany’s much-revered image for ecological sensitivity has been sullied.

Meanwhile, there are real questions about how long German industry can weather high energy prices. There have been many optimistic statements about Europe in the last few weeks because it’s had an unusually warm January and thus hasn’t needed as much natural gas to survive the winter as people had thought.

Today, serving as outside counsel to the state of Texas and in partnership with the state of Oklahoma, America First Legal (AFL) filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Secretary Xavier Becerra to prevent the relinquishing of American sovereignty to the World Health Organization (WHO).

In May, America First Legal released a primer on the Biden Administration’s globalist plan to surrender sovereignty to the corrupt WHO. AFL also launched two Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) investigations into the Biden Administration’s obsession with transferring American sovereignty over public health policy to an unaccountable foreign body.

And then in July, a coalition of states filed a petition for rulemaking with HHS, asking for the deletion of problematic regulatory provisions–that were discretely slipped into the Code of Federal Regulations during the final days of the Obama Administration–that unlawfully delegated the authority to invoke health emergency powers solely based on decisions by the WHO. In October, the Biden Administration denied that petition

The globalist WHO, which is currently led by Director-General Ghebreyesus, a former member of the Ethiopian Tigray People’s Liberation Front, and apologist for the Chinese Communist Party, has no place in defining what a public health emergency in the United States is. HHS has no right or authority to cede American sovereignty, especially State sovereignty, to the corrupt World Health Organization.

In the worst kept secret in the political world, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is preparing a campaign to challenge former President Donald Trump for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. With over $150 million in PAC funds leftover from his gubernatorial run and a deep bench of anti-Trump billionaire donors, the Governor is methodically preparing to challenge the man who is more responsible for putting DeSantis in the Governor mansion than any other Republican—including DeSantis himself.

I have written and spoken extensively about the fact that I would view a DeSantis campaign challenging Trump as a singular act of disloyalty that is downright treacherous. DeSantis was essentially an unknown back bench neocon Congressman who actually refused to endorse Donald Trump in 2016 after Trump had clinched the Republican nomination until Trump raised him from obscurity to the Governor's mansion.

The Florida Republican establishment, including all 67 Republican county chairmen, every elected Republican in the State House and Senate, as well as every Republican member of the Florida congressional delegation except Congressman Matt Gaetz endorsed former Congressman and State Agricultural Commissioner Adam Putnam. DeSantis rose to Trump's attention by rebranding himself as a strong critic of the Russian collusion investigation - taking to FOX television and conservative talk radio to offer a spirited defense of the 45th President.

Ronna Romney McDaniel doesn’t have the votes to win the RNC Chair position again according to insiders.

Mitt Romney’s niece, Ronna Romney McDaniel, is attempting to win the RNC Chair position again.  McDaniel took over the RNC after President Trump’s 2016 election win.  She was around for the 2018 losses in the House and the Senate.  She then oversaw the 2020 Election that clearly never should have been certified.  Then, in the 2022 midterms McDaniel oversaw another corrupt election with the GOP barely winning the House.

The resolution of the European Parliament, demanding Serbia recognize Kosovo as an independent state, is an example of the West’s “shameless” behavior, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, Vucic met in Davos with EU Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue Miroslav Lajcak to discuss current developments around Kosovo after the EU parliament adopted a resolution based on the report on the common EU foreign and security policy for 2022.

The report demands Belgrade start talks with Pristina on mutual recognition and condemns Serbia’s “continued low level of alignment” with the EU on such issues as the Ukrainian conflict and sanctions against Russia, making the country’s further integration in the bloc contingent on the progress in these areas.

“They organized violent secession of our territory [Kosovo and Metohija in 1999]. How far could this shameless behavior go? I do not have the words,” Vucic told journalists on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams admitted Wednesday that there is "no more room" to house asylum seekers in his city as Republican governors continue to send over thousands.

Talking to Politico at the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Washington, D.C., Adams further appeared to pressure the Biden administration to immediately address the ongoing crisis at the southern border.

"We're at that point," Adams said of the Big Apple's inability to care for new migrants. "At the same time, we're going to continue to do our moral and legal obligation. Whoever comes to the city — you're not seeing individuals sleeping on the streets with families — because we're continuing to pivot and shift as needed."

There is growing support among House Republicans for a congressional review of Democratic pressure tactics to suppress speech, from the Democratic Senator’s attempt to shut down Twitter to investigating the role of the Democratic Congress in AT&T and Verizon’s cancellation of One America News (OAN).

As Breitbart News previously reported in 2021, Democratic Reps Anna Eshoo (D-CA) and Richard Drew/AP (D-CA), who sit on House Commerce Committee wrote to the heads of the major cable and satellite companies including DirecTV, Verizon, Comcast, and Cox, expressing “concern” at cable companies allegedly “disseminating misinformation to millions of [its] subscribers, and we write to you to request additional information about what actions [each distributor] is taking to address these issues.”

Both Verizon and AT&T-owned DirecTV dropped OAN. AT&T also owns CNN, meaning DirecTV’s decision benefited a competing news outlet that they owned. The Commerce Committee oversees the FCC and the National Telecommunications and Information Agency, which both have major regulatory power over cable companies.

On Wednesday, Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz introduced an act to abolish the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) after they issued a controversial ruling against the 2nd Amendment.

On Friday, the ATF issued a rule that will treat guns that have stabilizing accessories the same as they treat short-barreled rifles, meaning they would require a federal license.

AG Merrick Garland stated the ruling will keep the public safe. Gaetz fired back, stating that the ruling punishes disabled gun owners and veterans who need the braces.

Photos from Hunter Biden’s laptop reveal that he drove his father’s Corvette that he recently cited as a secure location for classified documents.

According to the NY Post:

The pictures, obtained from Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop and verified for authenticity by the Washington Free Beacon on Wednesday, cast doubt on the 80-year-old president’s claims that the top-secret papers discovered in a garage at his 6,850-square-foot Wilmington, Delaware mansion were properly secured.

The snaps, taken on an iPhone camera just outside the president’s home, show Hunter Biden in the driver’s seat of his father’s Goodwood Green-colored 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray convertible in July of 2017.

In the two images, the president’s son can be seen posing in the classic car alongside two girls, whose faces are blurred. One of the passengers appears to be Hunter Biden’s niece, Natalie Biden, the report said, and the other could not be identified.

Hunter, who has leveraged his family name for business deals internationally, was at the very minimum in proximity to the classified documents, and it would raise additional national security concerns if he had access to them.

Last week, when Joe Biden was questioned by Fox’s Peter Doocy, Biden told him that his garage was a secure location because it has a lock; "I'm going to get a chance to speak on all of this, god-willing, soon...My Corvette's in a locked garage, okay? So, it's not like they're sitting out on the street..."

Airline flights across the country were grounded and delayed last week due to an outage in the Federal Aviation Administration's Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) system, which relays key information to flight crews, but a new report from the Congressional Research Service details how officials had known the system was in need of fixing.

The CRS report notes that the FAA itself asked for funding in the 2023 budget to update the NOTAM system.

"In its FY2023 budget estimate, FAA itself described the NOTAM repository as ‘failing vintage hardware’ and requested almost $30 million to accelerate the modernization of the Aeronautical Information Management Program that encompasses the NOTAM system," the report says, adding  that "the system also has been criticized for being arcane and difficult to use and interpret."

The expanding use of self-driving cars opens up new ways for terrorists to harm Americans, FBI Director Christopher Wray warned Thursday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Speaking on a panel on national security, Wray said the FBI views autonomous vehicles as both a possible tool to cause physical harm and a potentially valuable source of personal data that could become a target.

"When you talk about autonomous vehicles, it’s obviously something that we’re excited about, just like everybody," Wray said. "But there are harms that we have to guard against that are more than just the obvious."

In earlier centuries, the insolvent debtor's offense was considered grave, and unless the creditor was willing to "forgive" the debt out of charity, the debtor continued to owe the money plus accumulating interest, plus penalty for continuing nonpayment. Often, debtors were clapped into jail until they could pay — a bit draconian perhaps, but at least in the proper spirit of enforcing property rights and defending the sanctity of contracts. The major practical problem was the difficulty for debtors in prison to earn the money to repay the loan; perhaps it would have been better to allow the debtor to be free, provided that his continuing income went to paying the creditor his just due.

As early as the 17th century, however, governments began sobbing about the plight of the unfortunate debtors, ignoring the fact that the insolvent debtors had gotten themselves into their own fix, and they began to subvert their own proclaimed function of enforcing contracts. Bankruptcy laws were passed which, increasingly, let the debtors off the hook and prevented the creditors from obtaining their own property. Theft was increasingly condoned, improvidence was subsidized, and thrift was hobbled. In fact, with the modern device of Chapter 11, instituted by the Bankruptcy Reform Act of 1978, inefficient and improvident managers and stockholders are not only let off the hook, but they often remain in positions of power, debt-free and still running their firms, and plaguing consumers and creditors with their inefficiencies. Modern utilitarian neoclassical economists see nothing wrong with any of this; the market, after all, "adjusts" to these changes in the law. It is true that the market can adjust to almost anything, but so what? Hobbling creditors means that interest rates rise permanently, to the sober and honest as well as the improvident; but why should the former be taxed to subsidize the latter? But there are deeper problems with this utilitarian attitude. It is the same amoral claim, from the same economists, that there is nothing wrong with rising crime against residents or storekeepers of the inner cities. The market, they assert, will adjust and discount for such high crime rates, and therefore rents and housing values will be lower in the inner-city areas. So everything will be taken care of. But what sort of consolation is that? And what sort of justification for aggression and crime?
