Comedian Wanda Sykes says that criticism of cancel culture criticism is simply “straight men pissed that can’t say things any more.” Sykes reacted to comedian Kevin Hart expressing anxiety over comedy’s overly “political” climate, telling the Guardian, “To me, the whole complaint about cancel culture is a lot of men — especially straight men — who are just pissed that they can’t say things any more, y’know?”

In 2019, Hart had stepped down from hosting the Oscars after his previous gay jokes had resurfaced on Twitter.

“And it’s not like you can’t say these things. You can say them, but now there’s just consequences,” she added.

Meanwhile, Sykes claims that unlike other people, only God can cancel her.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will announce he is running for president during a discussion with Twitter CEO Elon Musk, three sources familiar with the plans told NBC News.

Musk and DeSantis will host an event on Twitter Spaces, the site’s platform for audio chats, on Wednesday at 6 p.m. ET. It will be moderated by David Sacks, a tech entrepreneur who is a Musk confidant and DeSantis supporter. 

That same evening, the campaign will release a launch video, and DeSantis will begin visiting several early states after Memorial Day. 

Most registered voters think President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden partook “in an illegal influence peddling scheme while he was Vice President,” according to a Harvard/Harris poll.

The poll, conducted between May 17-18, asked participants, “From what you know, do you think Hunter Biden was involved in illegal influence peddling and tax evasion, or do you think he was not involved in such crimes?”

Of the registered voter respondents, 63 percent, including 83 percent of Republicans and 65 percent of voters outside of the two major parties, believe Hunter Biden “was involved in illegal influence.” More than four in ten Democrats believe the same.

A majority of 53 percent of respondents say that President Biden engaged “in an illegal influence peddling scheme” with his son when he served as vice president. This included most Republicans (79 percent) and independents (58 percent), while a majority of 75 percent of Democrats think the opposite.

It’s “obvious” that Kiev can’t win the war against Moscow, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said, urging for a diplomatic solution to the crisis instead of the West continuing to pour military aid into Ukraine. Hungary itself is “losing lives” daily as well due to the conflict, Orban explained, referring to members of Ukraine’s Hungarian ethnic minority that have been “conscripted” to fight Russia. He abstained from condemning Moscow for the “invasion” of Ukraine, stating only that the hostilities were due to a major failure in diplomacy. 

Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG), the parent company of former US president Donald Trump’s Truth Social platform, is suing the Washington Post for defamation, alleging the paper’s recent “egregious hit piece” about the platform threatens its very existence. The lawsuit, filed on Saturday in Florida’s Twelfth Circuit, seeks $3.78 billion in compensatory and punitive damages.

The Post’s May 13 article, ‘Trust linked to porn-friendly bank could gain a stake in Trump’s Truth Social,’ is at the center of the lawsuit, which claims the news outlet “falsely accused TMTG of securities fraud and other wrongdoing.”

The US State Department chided Israel for issuing an order seemingly giving the go-ahead to establishing a permanent Jewish-only settlement in the West Bank outpost of Homesh on Sunday, reminding its Middle Eastern ally that such settlements are illegal. 

Claiming to be “deeply troubled by the Israeli government’s order that allows its citizens to establish a permanent presence in the Homesh outpost in the northern West Bank,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller pointed out in a statement released on Sunday that the settlement was “illegally built on private Palestinian land” even under Israeli law.
