Saudi youth, 18, who was facing the death penalty after being arrested as a 13-year-old will NOT be executed following international outcry

A Saudi teenager who was facing the death penalty after being arrested aged 13 will not be executed and could be freed within three years, the Arab kingdom has said.

Murtaja Qureiris, now 18, had been sitting in pre-trial detention since his arrest in 2014 for taking part in the Arab Spring protests three years before.

But he has now been sentenced to 12 years in jail - with time served since his arrest deducted - with an additional four years which was suspended because of his young age, a Saudi official told Reuters.
